“are the measurements of the actual box different than the measurements noted here? because i want the door portion to stick out further than the counters or cabinets but the actual hole the unit will be in are smaller than the advertisement”

The dimensions are accurate (they were when I bought mine 7 months ago). You do have to leave space in the back (a couple of inches for the electric and water supply). My doors are out about 5 1/2 inches from counter depth, just right for my space. The case goes almost to the floor so the width needs to be considered if it is a close fit with 1/4 round floor molding.
