Just hit the start (pause) button and it will unlock and you can start it back up again without restarting your load of laundry.

Yes.. it only locks on the spin/rinse cycles

I've been looking at Whirlpool w/d for a few weeks now and I'm just amazed at how bad or useless the responses are from your Whirlpool rep. Kind of like " Hey, we don't want to commit ourselves to anything so we just give bland answers to simple questions from owners and potential buyers". 
I have been happy with the Q&As from the public about my choice of W/D, but the lack of knowledge and commitment from the Whirlpool company makes me shy away from purchasing their products.
Hot - yes. Cold - yes. Lukewarm - spit you out.
