The hood can be ducted or recirculated.

No, it does not require ductwork. There is a vent option on the appliance on top. It just pulls the air through that. In my setup, that means just in front of the cabinets above the hood. Not ideal but, it works.

This vent hood has two options, vent to inside which means the vent hood releases the air out the sides into the house OR hard wire installation. Since this is my 3rd range hood and I've used the dinky microwave "vent" which is really a fan, used no vent (ugh), or a non external vent, I'm picky about venting. Therefore, insistent on external hard wire vent installation. My vent hoods for 18 years all vent externally.

If you don't have the configuration there will have to be some configuration changes to get that ready beforehand for new install. This is covered in the manual too. Hope this is helpful.
