This washer will use powdered or liquid detergent with a slight reconfiguration of the dispenser. It is designed for HE detergent. Mine came with the tide detergent pods as well so I assume those would work as well. But I have not used the pods yet.

I recommend an HE detergent. Currently, I am using Tide Purclean HE. This washer does an amazing job at removing ground in dirt and stains. I have two kids and two pets and this washing machine tackles their messes easily.
