Just don't fill it past the "maximum" mark which is indicated on the soap tray. If I am doing a small load, i only fill it half way or so and everything is great.

If you are using HE detergents, these are super concentrated detergents, so therefore you can use less. Infact, three tablespoons will clean an average sized/average soiled load. You can also buy the Detergent PODS that are already pre-measured to take the guess work out of it. We hope this helps!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you have a small load to wash, you can use a little less laundry detergent since the machine automatically adjusts the amount of water to the size of the load. However, this is a large machine. I had a Cabrio before, and the tub on this one is even larger. So when they say to use the normal amount, I would listen to them, especially if you are doing a fairly large load.

When you look inside the cap, you will see a line close to the bottom of the cap. That is the amount you use. It is maybe a 1/4 inch of soap. If you overuse soap, your machine will smell moldy/musty. If you have a water softener, you use about a third of the amount you would use for HE. (high efficiency) Hope this helps!
