“I have just purchased a new front load Maytag washer and dryer. I also purchased the pedestals. I was wondering why the dryer fits flush on the pedestal and the washer has an overhang in the back sitting on the pedestal. Is it suppose to be that way”

Hi Deb, the overhang is completely normal due to the depth of the washer versus the dryer. Please refer to the Installation Instructions pages 6 for the washer and 7 for the dryer side view with pedestal attached. You will see the washer will extend over the pedestal as they are a couple of inches deeper than the matching dryer.
