Thank you for your question! If you're purchasing through the Xbox All Access program, the 24 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate that comes with your Xbox Series X begins during console setup when you redeem your Ultimate service. Or, if you're buying Xbox Series X by itself, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is a separate purchase and activates when redeemed. In either case, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate can be activated when you want.

No it doesn’t. Once you set up your account and provide payment options for future charges it’s when it starts
