No smart home needed just install the lock and setup through the app. But there are cheaper versions that work with an app if you don’t want to use home automation.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Your question sort of contradicts itself as using an app to control something is essentially a "smart" home function. You can use the lock without connecting to the internet and use as a simple push code lock. But for that then spend less money and buy one without the internet accessibility. Once this lock is setup you can connect it to your home network and control it using the August app if you wish. You can also integrate it into an even "smarter" home by adding the Connect bridge and using it with Google Home, Alexa, etc. Hope this answers your question.
