These are wired, and connect via stripped wire to spring clips on the back of the speaker. Do the Yamahas also connect via bare wire, or do they have some sort of plug / connector?”

• Yes the speakers hookup using stripped wire to spring clips! But the subwoofer hooks up using a plug connector and not the stripped wire. I replaced an old Sony Entertainment Center also and the Sony speakers worked great but the Sony subwoofer would not because of hookup. (I bought Yamaha Subwoofer and speakers to replace the Sony ones.)

• Bare wire is fine for these speakers. They have the same style of spring clip terminals as your Sony's did.
