“I have hearing issues and use Sony digital surround sound headphones. These connect via optical connection to the Digital Optical Output port on receiver. On the rear of Yamaha are two Optical ports. Specs say one(1) is Input. Is the other Optical Output?”

I believe both digital optical terminals on the back of the receiver are for output. I use both of them, one for the CD player (from CD player's optical output terminal to the receiver) and one for the LG OLED TV, from LG OLED TV's optical output terminal to the receiver.
