“Can this receiver pass the HDMI through bypassing the speaker system to use the TV's speaker? Or do you have to turn the volume all the way down? I guess I assume that in standby it "wakes up" and directs the amplifier to power the 5.1 speaker systems.”

• You can run the HDMI through and use the tv speakers without even turning on the receiver.
