Our cordless models also have a run-time enhancing light touch trigger which ensures battery power is only used when the trigger is pushed. The total run time will be up to 40 minutes. In Max power run time will be up to 7 minutes, and in standard power, you can expect run times of up to 30-40 minutes depending on which tool or attachments you are using. Having a shorter run time does sound unusual, and we'd value the opportunity to go over your machine with you.

The V8 does have two modes: standard and max mode. Out-the-box, the machine is set to max mode. Max mode is a temporary boost of power for particularly stubborn messes and provides up to 7 minutes of run time. The standard mode is great for majority of cleaning tasks and provides up to 40 minutes of run time.

The V8 is advertised to get 7 minutes in MAX mode for tougher jobs. 25 minutes in standard mode with the motorized cleaner head attached and 30 minutes with the soft roller cleaner head or mini motorized tool attached. 40 minutes for any other tool.
What you've described sounds like it is being used in MAX mode. We recommend using MAX mode only for tougher jobs.

On a full charge, which would be 5.5 hours, in regular power mode you will get 30-40 minutes of run time, depending on whether using a motorized versus non-motorized tool. In MAX power mode, run time will be about 7-8 minutes. If after charging for 5.5 hours you are still finding your run time to be out of this range, please feel free to contact us directly at [email protected].

After watching countless videos of it we decided to give ir a try. Once here after letting it charge fully and ready to use, when we opened the canister for it to release the trash it didn’t close back.

Dyson V8 vacuums have a run time of up to 40 minutes, when used in standard power mode. On MAX power, run time will be shorter due to the added boost of suction power. You should find that suction in standard power mode is sufficient for most tasks, while MAX is better suited for tough cleaning jobs. You may be interested to know that the new Dyson Cyclone V10 models have an advertised run time of up to 60 minutes, which is our longest run time to date.

Your machine does come with two suction modes, regular and MAX. Right out of the box, the machine will be set to MAX mode which provides a generous boost of suction for larger debris or more stubborn messes. This mode will give you about 7 minutes of run time, so we do not recommend this mode for your everyday vacuuming. While using regular suction mode, you'll receive up to 30-40 minutes of run time, depending on if you're using a motorized tool.

So disappointed

I live in small 2 bedroom apartment and this vacuum battery doesnt last for half of the apartment so disappointed i wish i would come with 2 batteries. Even though Dyson has a reputation for being powerful, this is still surprisingly good at picking up material. It's also well balanced, which could be a problem since the brush head is so far from the base with the motor and filters. The only problem I noticed is the tendency to depress the trigger whenever I pick it up. It's also easy to dump, with the release lever on top so your hands stay out of the way of the dirt. Overall, this is a great cordless vacuum.
