This optical cable works great with most receivers, although make sure it's compatible with most 5.1 or 7.1 codex. Essentially you need an actual receiver and not an out-of-box DVD or Blu-ray surround sound system

good product but unfortunately my sound bar is really outdated and while the plug was compatible, my sound bar is not compatible to my new TV and the idea of using a single remote.

My kitten chewed the old optical cable which had wonky connectors and no over jacket. The Rocketfish cable has nice positive locking connectors with a thick outer jacket that should be kitten resistant.
