Optical output from TV to amplifier

Incompatible with my Samsung soundbar

Because my new Samsung TV only has 2 HDMI ports. But, this optical cable created a generic volume menu. I contacted Samsung because holding down the volume key didn't increase/decrease the volume. You'd have to press the button numerous times to make it work. Samsung stated that it's incompatible and they suggest using HDMI for the sound bar. *But they only provided 2 HDMI ports.
