Rechargeable battery needs to be connected for several hours to the charger. A second battery can be ready for use then switched into the doorbell camera without it being offline during the charge cycle. Makes the change more convenient.

I was told by the Geek Squad that installed my Ring doorbells that I didn’t need the batteries so I returned them back to the store for credit to my account.
