    built like a tank

First impression is that this keyboard is built like a tank. it is solid and super heavy. I was surprised to pick it up and feel the weight of it. I have never felt one this heavy before. once you put it on your desk it stays put and doesn't side around. I wish is had an adjustable angle but it is fixed flat with no provisions for lifting up the top end. It uses an internal battery (no batteries to replace) so completely wireless via the USB-A dongle or bluetooth. It charges via USB-C (came with cable) I have used this for a couple of weeks using the backlight and still on the same charge so it lasts a good time, recharging is fairly quick and you can use it while charging so no down time. The backlight is soso, you can see the light bleed from around the keys, I would prefer only the letters light up. the keys remind me of a laptop with individual chicklets, but the feel is really good and easy to get used to. The form factor is really great it is a fullsized keyboard but it is compact and does not take up a lot of desk space. Overall a good keyboard and it replaces my logitech MK700 which I have used for years without issue. I have no doubt this will give me many years of use also.

    Best Keyboard for Mac/PC?

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Logitech has always been at the forefront in developing excellent keyboards for the Mac, and their newest, the MX Keys Wireless Illuminated Keyboard is no exception. For $99.99 you get a lot of features. Although this keyboard is multi-platform, it has several Mac/Windows keys that perform functions specific for that particular platform. For example, check out the Cmd/Alt or Opt/Start keys. The MX Keys keyboard is heavier than its Apple competitor, the Magic Keyboard With Numeric Keypad. The Apple one weighs .5 lbs. while the Logitech weighs 1.8 lbs. The difference is that it has a metal plate under the keys that make the keyboard more stable on your desktop. The most unique feature of the MX Keys is its illuminated backlit keyboard. When fingers are close to the keyboard, it immediately illuminates. When your fingers go off the keyboard, the keys automatically go off. Like many of Logitech’s recent keyboards, the MX Key can be paired with up to 3 devices at the same time, making it easier to switch between them. Just press one of Logitech’s Easy-Switch keys on the top row of the keyboard. Connectivity Connectivity is a primary concern with keyboard users. To satisfy all of them, Logitech offers two options. The first is their proprietary receiver. Just plug it in and your Mac/PC and download Logitech’s Logi Options Software. This receiver will automatically find your keyboard and flawlessly operate up to 6 Logitech devices. If USB space is a concern, this dongle will save USB slots. The second connectivity option is Bluetooth. Although not as stable as the RF receiver, Bluetooth will enable the keyboard once pairing has occurred. Using Bluetooth permits the keyboard will work with other devices such as an iPad. Power If power is one of your concerns, the MX Keys offers a rechargeable battery that can last up to 10 days with illumination turned on or up to 5 months in the off position. In the upper right corner of the MX Keys is an LED light that turns green when power is good or red when the keyboard needs to be charged. This is performed with the included USB-C cable. When the cable is attached for charging, the keyboard continues operating. Dimensions Size: Height: .8” (h) x 16.9” (w) x 5.2” (d) Weight: 1.8 lbs. Evaluation The MX Keys has one of the best tactile feels of any keyboard due to its spherically-shaped keys with their round edges to match your fingertips. Combine this with the increased key travel making this keyboard a perfect cross between flat scissor keys and larger tactile keyboards. You can actually feel the difference by comparing this keyboard with Apple’s Magic keyboard. Logitech did not stop with the tactile feel of the keys. Instead they added illuminated keys, device switching and connectivity options. For a company like Apple to make a keyboard without some of these features, is dubious. One wonders why Apple’s keyboard with a number keypad sells for $30 more than the MX Keys! This is not to say that the MX Keys is a perfect keyboard. Although most of the keys work flawlessly with Macs, where is the Eject key? Of course, this can be programmed into one of the F keys, but why wasn’t it considered as a standalone key? My other complaint is its low-profile design. The height of the MX Keys is 5/8”. Compare this to Apple’s keyboard with a height of 3/8”. Much of this is personal preference. I would have liked a keyboard with closer to a 30º angle. If you’re looking for a comfortable keyboard loaded with features, check out the MX Keys. This Logitech keyboard makes Apple’s Magic Keyboard look bloated. You may not want to spend $100 on a keyboard, but its features make it well worth it.

I absolutely love this keyboard. The feel of it. The ease of typing makes it wonderful. Logitech knocked it out the park with this one. I think I may have had to charge it once and I've had it for a couple of weeks. You will not be disappointed if you purchase this keyboard. I wish I had one like this at work.

The first thing I noticed when taking it out of the box was the weight. That’s a great thing. For a wireless keyboard, I was expecting it to be light. The weight of this means it stays in place on your desk without shuffling away from you. The keys are responsive and with good feedback while being pretty silent. The clacking noise of my previous keyboard was subtly annoying. The backlighting is a nice feature, but not one I need. It’s good you can turn it off. I haven’t had any connectivity issues. I only use this on one computer so I haven’t had the need to test how easily it connects from one computer to another. I’ll assume it’s as smooth as the same function I’m familiar with on the MX Master mouse. Battery longevity has been good so far. Haven’t had to charge it yet after about three weeks. Though I do try to turn it off when I’m away from my computer. Turning it back on, it’s quick to reconnect. I do wish it had adjustable feet so you could angle the board. That’s just a wish though as the feel isn’t any different than typing on a laptop keyboard.

For my needs and use, this is the best keyboard I have used. First, this keyboard is relatively heavy, so it stays put. Its solid build helps it maintain quiet typing. Key responsiveness and travel is just right, and typing is indeed much quieter than the average cheaper keyboard. This keyboard is made for Macs and PCs (it has cmd, alt, opt, and ctrl keys). The lighted keys work well and are very welcome for those who sometimes work in low light conditions, such as at night or early in the morning. To save battery, they go off when not in use, and then light back up when your hands approach the keyboard. This is adjustable with the Logitech application, Another great feature is that it easy to use this keyboard with multiple devices. You can pair with three devices (using either the Logitech USB fob or Bluetooth) and switch between devices using three dedicated keys. This is an excellent professional keyboard. Solid, good features, and quiet typing. Highly recommended.

    Best Keyboard Ever

The MX Keys is simply the best keyboard that I've ever used. I never thought of keyboards as uncomfortable, but this keyboard is. The height is good and the tilt angle works great. The material is also awesome. It's comfortable to type on unlike many keyboards, hasn't shifted some of the keys to make it smaller so I'm constantly looking for "end" or "home" or the arrows. The keyboard does a good job of staying out of the way, so I just get things done. I especially like the way that it senses you reaching and turns on the light. It's much more convenient if it's a little darker than them coming on when you push the first key. Battery life has been great. I haven't run out yet when I needed it. The quick charge gives you time to finish if you need it, but with just a little thinking and plugging it in every so often, I've rarely needed it. I would highly recommend this keyboard if you're looking for a wireless. For what it gives you, it's worth every penny.

    Another great keyboard from Logitech

The first most noticeable thing about this keyboard is its heft. This keyboard has a fair amount of weight to it for a chicklet-style keyboard, and I think most of it comes from the battery (not user replaceable) at the top of the keyboard. This is in very stark contrast to the very popular Logi solar keyboard that operates on a small coin battery. The upside to this is the very long battery life you get from it. I got about 2 weeks of charge just off the partial charge it had out of the box, using it all day every day. The F keys and the other special keys are programmable with the Logitech Options software. It's painless to pair this with multiple devices or computers, and just as easy to switch. I did take a star off because on MacOS, switching between the standard F keys and the special functions (brightness, vol, etc...) was kind of funky, and there is as much as a 3-4 second lag time switching between them. Hopefully this is something that can be fixed with a software update, but it's pretty annoying at the moment. (Holding Fn and then pressing an F key works perfectly fine though). The automatic back-lighting is pretty neat, and can detect your hands approaching the keyboard from basically anywhere. A nice battery saving technique. Actual typing on the keyboard is fine, it's about average, which is still better than an Apple keyboard.

I'm not a keyboard purist but this just felt wrong to me. I had watched reviews on YouTube that described the key feel as crisp, but that is not what I found. My Apple wired keyboard with numpad A1243 is worlds better, and I went back to it after returning the MX Keys.

Logitech's new MX Keys Advanced Wireless Illuminated Keyboard is a compact Swiss Army knife of a keyboard. It's lightweight, well-built, and multi-functional. I am using it with both my MacBook Pro and desktop PC with ease. Simply hit the button to switch device pairing and you are instantly off to the races with that device. It's almost better than a KVM switch. When paired with the MX Master 3 Mouse it is a powerful combo for multiple device situations. I also paired it to my iPad Pro and was able to quickly change between all three devices with ease. I do wish you could sync the devices so that if I switch paring of one it changes pairing for both the mouse and keyboard. Otherwise, it is still great functionality. I'm still trying to get used to the keys themselves. A little soft and squishy for my taste. Reminds me of a notebook keyboard, but not a very good one. My Dell XPS 13 and Razer Blade Advanced have far better feeling key travel. Just keep in mind it may not be your taste especially if coming from something with real tactile response like a mechanical keyboard. Response time on the keyboard is great and I didn't detect any appreciable lag when gaming with the keyboard so that was a plus. Lighting is also bright and even, but definitely has an impact on battery life. I would say that unless you really need it to turn it off though or you will find yourself charging the keyboard far more than you might care to. Battery life is good and I was able to easily get a week out of it with pretty heavy use. Overall, the keyboard works great in my situation and is a solid entry into the Logitech MX series. Looking forward to the next iteration from Logitech.

Wireless keyboard that doesn't feel cheap

I'm coming from a click-heavy keyboard and I have to say this is a solid, low profile keyboard that even though you don't have the old school keys on it, feels very good while in use. It weighs enough that it isn't going to move around on you. The buttons provide good feedback without sounding like chattering teeth. As someone who hunts/pecks for typing, the lighting option is an added bonus in darker settings. Even though it lays pretty flat, I didn't get any kind of fatigue using it for hours. I have had the keyboard for weeks, and though I have the brightness fairly low, it's still going strong on its initial charge. The only negative about this keyboard is that with one of my Dells, it seemed to occasionally drop its Bluetooth connection when the PC went to sleep. I did however successfully pair it to two different Dells without any other issues.

The Logitech website touts Form, Stability and Function for the Logitech - MX Keys Advanced Wireless Illuminated Keyboard, which is a big boast. They weren't lying. This is the keyboard thatakes me wonder why no one's thought of this before? The cupped keys are the best. I wish I had this while working on papers at UCF! SO COMFORTABLE. And they really do promote precise key strokes. The whole setup reduced wrist fatigue after longer sessions online or working. I also like the adaptive back-klit wireless keyboard. Till now to have a back-lit keyboard, I had to stay connected via USB. The best is the length of the charge this sucker held for me. Using the back light function I got 7 days typing, while averaging 1.5 hours per day. Should you grab a Logitech - MX Keys Advanced Wireless Illuminated Keyboard? Uh, Yes! :) Cheers

Quality keyboard but doesn’t connect by Bluetooth to my PC (Windows 7) because PC is too old and did not connect to my IMAC (bought new 2020) because it’s too new. Defeats the purpose of being able to switch from PC to Mac with one keyboard, so i returned.

Hi Craig, I'm sorry that you experienced difficulties with the set-up of the MX Keys. The Keyboard can connect with the provided USB receiver to the PC by plugging it into the PC directly. In order to Bluetooth connect to the iMac you would need to select and hold the "2" on the top right of the keyboard until it flashes. You can then go into your iMac Bluetooth settings and add a new Bluetooth device. Once the device is connected via Bluetooth you can switch between PC and iMac by pressing the 1 and 2 at the top right of the keyboard. Proximity for the MX Keys backlight doesn't work in the dark when computer is locked. If I turn on the lights, it works. I pressed and hit every keys, nothing turns on the backlighting on MX Keys. Also, MX Key's battery is terrible!!! My old trusty K830 keyboard's backlighting works so much better and the K830's battery last way longer than MX Keys!!! I like the design of the MX Keys because it isn't oversized like the K830. I needed to create more room on my work bench and now suffering this backlighting flaw and battery drains like crazy on the MX Keys, not to mentioned the mouse too for MX Anywhere S2.

Hello, we are sorry to hear about your issue with the MX Keys. It's possible there is a connection problem with the device itself. What we can recommend is to try using the other channels on the keyboard to have the concern isolated further. Use the other channels and try to connect with either the USB dongle or Bluetooth. if the same issue will still persist, we highly recommend you to submit a ticket to our support team for further assistance.

Has a lag time when the backlight comes on. I called Logitech customer tech support. They said this lag time is "normal". The old k800 never had this. Has something to do with the keyboard having to exchange information with computer before backlight comes on. Which makes this function useless. I am returning it. I told Logitech that they needed to fix this error. It is all over the web that this keyboard has a useless backlight function.

Hello techguy2005! Thanks for your feedback and sorry to hear the backlighting on the MX Keys Advanced Wireless Illuminated Keyboard isn't working the way you'd hoped it would. The delay you're experiencing is basically due to the proximity sensors inside the keyboard, which detects when your hands get closer to the keyboard, and then illuminates the keys. They'll stay illuminated as long as your hands stay close to it or as you're typing. They will then fade off as your hands leave the keyboard, to save on battery life. - Mathieu from Logitech
