It started off fine, but after only a few uses the defrost function kicked in. Now it warns that it makes noise - but this noise is so loud that it wakes up my entire family on another floor of the house. Then it started making noise when creating the ice. It reached the point where my wife demanded that it go. Too bad - had high hopes for it.

Unfortunately my machine must be malfunctioning or just a poor design. I have followed the instructions for cleaning and set-up and have more than an adequate amount of air space around the machine. It has been running for 12 hours and still cannot fill tge ice storage bin. It goes into defrost mode at minimum 1 time every hour and melts most of the ice in the process. So the claim of producing 1 LB of ice an hour is a far cry. If say im at about 1 lb of ice every 4 hours. Very disappointed after spend more than $600 with the extend3d warranty.

Posted .Hello- We appreciate your purchase and can understand your frustration. We are happy to help! When you first start the Opal and it begins to make ice, the initial batches of ice nuggets will be slushy. After about 30 minutes, your Opal will be making good, solid nuggets.
If the ice nuggets are all slushy (even the ones at the top of the ice bin), the unit may need to be cleaned. Also water quality is very important to the function and required maintenance of your ice maker. Minerals from your water can build up in the Opal over time, which would then need to be cleaned. We recommend using distilled water in your Opal; even bottled water can have high mineral content.
TO TEST:
Let the unit run in ice making mode for 10 minutes
If the air is warm, and Opal had been making good nuggets, try cleaning it. We have some great detailed information on our website. If the unit continues to make soft, slushy ice or has never made good ice, contact Opal Support at myopalservice.com or call 1-866-907-6718, M-F 8-8 EST. We hope this helps! Joyce@GEA

Posted .During normal operation, condensation forms on the bottom surface of the ice bin. This water will sometimes collect and drip down the lower front surfaces of the ice maker. The included drip tray can be installed in front of the Opal to collect this water
