Biggest complaint is the noise. For the most part, the noise isn't bad. But occasionally as this thing cycles it sounds like it is someone dragging their fingernails across a chalk board......only much louder. I thought maybe the unit was defective. I exchanged it for the same model. Nope.... the second one does the same thing. It doesn't do it all of the time, but at least 3-4 times a day for several minutes at a time. Thought the Remote app would be nice, as you can set a timer when it runs. Problem is that since it is constantly recycling ice, you end up leaving it run 24-7 to make sure you have ice when you want it. So kind of a useless feature. Like the nugget ice, but there has to be better options out there. So far Best Buy has treated me right as far as returns and service.

Posted .Hi there, thanks for taking the time to leave a review on your Opal. We can understand how this would be frustrating to hear. A squeaking noise would be considered normal. This happens when ice builds up around the mechanisms of the unit and it needs to defrost. Good thing is, the defrost cycle is automatic and takes about 10 to 45 minutes. We have been wanting it for awhile so I got it for him and he has spent two days making ice to stock the freezer. The machine itself is quite and has done a great job. Everyone loves the ice.

It started making ice within about 8 to 10 minutes, filled the bin on a couple of hours. Not noisy as I had read in some reviews. Very happy with it so far, and my wife loves the ice.
