Unfortunately, the console I received has the Nidec fan. It makes a high-pitched UFO sound and there's nothing I can do about it. It's currently in a closet with a 15' hdmi running to my TV because of this. So, buyer beware I guess. I would have returned it for another one but who knows how that would have went with the shortage, right? I guess I'll have to buy an aftermarket cooler to cut out the noise or trade it in for the slim/pro whenever those come out. Speaking of which... As for the console itself: It underperforms. Elden Ring is the latest example but the console rarely plays games in full 4k60. I have no idea why console makers still chase the epic screenshots for magazines and trailers, but that trend is alive and well with the PS5. Going up to 4k rez and textures with all other settings the same would have been a FANTASTIC visual upgrade from the PS4, but N E X T - G E N is the most important thing I guess. There are a multitude of great games on the PS5 now in 2022 but practically none of them run in true 4k60 (Dying Light 2's 60 fps mode is 1080p, Horizon has stutter, etc). It's a bit of a let-down but ultimately I purchased this to be a Super PS4 Pro to work through my backlog and it's great for that. The controller could be much better too. I find the increased size uncomfortable and really dislike the lack of support for the back button attachment. Overall, good system. I'm sure I'd enjoy it much more if not for the fan situation, but even then it would still be a massive behemoth that underperforms.
