Great camera with few faults! Love it!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first Sony mirrorless camera. I've been a professional photographer for decades, now retired. This is the best camera I've ever used. And I've used a bunch of professional cameras over the years. The body is solid, fast, and the menu system is remarkably capable. All of the customization of the buttons is truly mind-blowing. The accuracy of the autofocus is better than anything I've ever used. The image quality is the best as well. I could not recommend this camera more highly for those of use who don't need 30 frames per second. The one weakness of this camera is that the maximum frame rater with the mechanical shutter is 10 fps. And if you use the electronic shutter, you do not want to shoot sports. I'm just fine with the speed. Otherwise, this is a camera that for the current price ($500 off, it's successor is due out before the end of the year) it's an outstanding value.

Frustrating and Amazing at the same time.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is pretty much about it's video capabilities. I mainly bought this camera for video but wanted to have a good camera for photos as well. Coming from a GH5s the Sony A7 IV is pretty amazing. Better video quality, excellent autofocus and man that shallow depth of field is pretty special with my f2.8 16-35mm lens. No focus breathing is pretty special too. Low light is really exceptional even when I tested it against an A7S III that I almost bought. The color is really good and I like how the colors seem more true to what you are filming in a rec709 setting vs my GH5s, the GH5 and GH5 II I tested against it. I like it much better in comparison to the A7S III too. I love the file size of 4K 24p too at 100mbps vs. 150mbps with Panasonic as well. This will save a lot of space on my computer. On top of this there are soo many cool lens options. But then there are all these frustrating things I have to deal with when using this camera. 1. If you film with 2 SD cards recording simultaneously it overheats in about 40 min in a 70 degree room. Even when the overheat setting is set to high. I had to switch to 1 card recording and lost my redundancy. At least it won't overheat now. I would be more than fine to see a little larger build so it would regulate heat better. 2. You can't use an external monitor and the on camera monitor unless you turn off the settings display on the external monitor. This means you can't see record, mic output etc. I had to get a cheap monitor with an HDMI out to get 2 screens to display the settings so I can change settings on the cam and also know what's happening when I film myself. 3. In the saved settings I can't just go in and set the white balance. I have to go into M or P or A to set the white balance and save it. This is far from ideal. Not being able to record simultaneously with 2 SD cards is almost a deal breaker for me but man the video quality and autofocus is sooooo good its hard to part with it.

Hybrid Shooter's Dream
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this camera to be my secondary photo body (to my a7riv) and my main video body. I have used it weekly for a few months and have had nothing but good experiences with it. Updated menu system and new customization options are both wonderful additions. The body itself is ergonomically perfect. 33 MP is a great sweetspot providing some cropability while keeping file sizes manageable. Shoots great video as well, even with 4k 60 being cropped. I would gladly give up uncropped 4k 60 and 4k 120 (offered by the a7siii) for the hybrid ability to shoot 33mp images.

Very good camera, but overpriced
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First i want to say, i use cameras for professional commercial work and personal use. I'm not a brand loyalist in any way. For work, they are tools. My go to mirrorless camera for smaller commercial and private jobs has been the Fuji XH2 since it came out. The specs are perfect for my work, and clients are happy with results, as am I. Ive never been into fuji cameras, but the XH2 checked all the boxes i need and is quite honestly a beast gor the price. I've never liked sony cameras for professional work. My experience in the past was not good. They'd overheat and have too many issues. I loved using them, and loved the quality of photos and video i could get out of them, but i just couldn't recommend them for professional use, and I'd always end up returning or selling them. I took a chance on the A7iv after the popularity of the A7iii. My immediate thoughts were... i love the feel of the sony. Theirs just something about it that makes it feel good to use. Maybe the ergonomics are perfect for my hand. Its easy to use, although the new menu system takes a second to get used to. Quality output and autofocus are exactly what you'd expect from a Sony. But, 4k max internal recording, vs lower cost competitors offering 6k and 8k is disappointing at this price. 120fps vs 240fps offered by lower cost competitors. Crop to apsc from full frame for 60fps, 120 etc. I mean, it is a great camera, but on paper it pales by comparison to lower cost cameras out their. So why buy one? For a fullframe camera at this price i honestly see no "bang for the buck" less expensive cameras ie less expensive overall systems cost less and offer more... in some cases more means double. Which is crazy. But, what the a7iv does offer over those is... Superb autofocus, and autofocus tracking. Great lowlight performance with better pixel density than competitors. Full frame depth of field. Now, i rarely use autofocus for professional work, so that is really nothing to me. All modern cameras have great autofocus for photography and offer great focus assists. But, i have never found a perfect autofocus system ie a system that would somehow know exactly what im trying to focus on. So manual is still king for a strong majority of my work in photo and video... yes even with the a7iv. I had a gig recently photograhing live insects for a company's website. The sony autofocus on small insects was just as bad as any camera ive ever used. In fact lumix was the best I ever saw for autofocus on insects... probably because insects have a lot of contrast. So the pros for me are: A camera that feels great in the hand. A joy to use. Great output, image quality. Great in lowlight. Cons: Not future proof. Likely wont even be a b cam in a few years due to limited internal recording resolution. A lot of people say 8k is overkill, but if you work with commercial clients, remember, some of them are having commercials made with Red cameras, and yes 6 or 8k. Also everyone said the same about 4k a few years back... now look at us. So yeah, not offering 6k internal at this price is kinda crazy. Crops to apsc for high speed recording ie slow motion. Still prone to overheating... c'mon sony fix that. Your cameras have been prone to overheating since the a6300 days. Definitely do not feel you get your money's worth when comparing to other competitors. Personal opinion in testing lenses, fuji red badge lenses are better than g master. Side by side tests, overall tonality is just better. Fuji color science vs Sony may play a role in that. But i end up doing more work to the sony pic to get the look i want. But i notice a big difference in contrast and tonality between my basic fuji lenses and red badge. And sony g master reminds me more of the basic fuji lens quality (xf). Overall, id have probably returned the sony, as great as it is, if not for Best Buys ridiculous restocking fees. The quality is there, but not the specs.

Amazing camera. If it's on sale, snatch it up
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amazing mirrorless camera! I stepped up from a Sony A7iii, and don't regret it for a second. The A7iii was a great camera too, but the A7iv is better. Do the firmware update if it's not already updated. The addition of focus bracketing is worth it if you're into macro photography.

||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the second Sony A7iv camera I’ve purchased from Best Buy, one has a Sigma 70-200 2.8 lens and the other has the new Sony 50-150 f/2.. These are simply put… AMAZING CAMERAS.. The images are just beautiful and the menu is not that hard to navigate.. I’m more than impressed and happy with these purchases, especially when Best Buy has their sales going on!!

Really Good Camera
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The A7IV is a really good camera. I upgraded from a Canon Rebel T3i and it was really worth it. The only thing to keep in mind is that it can overheat when recording for an extended period of time, but you can’t change the settings to prevent the camera to turn off automatically.
