Cracked Monitor after one month--without cause

Macs are all I have ever owned so I trusted this was the nicest looking light-MacBook I had ever purchased.Paid full price. *January 2023, one month after purchase, the monitor screen cracked when I opened the lid. I am heartbroken to pay full price for this one and not even get to use it, nearly one month. I had not purchased any extra warranty for exterior, if there even was one in existence. The one month it existed---great pc. I really think it's a quality-control issue. Nothing like this has ever happened to any Mac I have ever owned and this one was full price. It's sitting in my laptop bag since customer service wanted to charge me for the entire monitor which is not acceptable. I am now back to using an older model MacBook that I purchased years ago. Please be aware newer MacBook Airs are obviously inferior in the construction of the Monitor. I do feel cheated, because as I said, I've never owned any other brand but Apple. Beware, newer models of MacBook Air.
