Good vacuum with some improvements and drawbacks

This is the third Shark vacuum I've owned (I was pretty hard on the first two as I used them for cleaning construction debris, which shortened their lifespan understandably). Shark, overall, continues to make an excellent vacuum and there are some definite quality of life improvements and a couple of bizarre omissions. The self-cleaning brush roll, collection cup, and filters have all been improved. However, they inexplicably removed the ability to take off the cover above the brush roll, I assume because they think the self-cleaning brush roll will perform as advertised. I almost immediately ran over a cardboard price tag which got lodged above the brush roll. In the past this would have been a simple matter of removing the cover and pulling it out. Instead I had to use a plastic "slim jim" style tool which I thankfully had. While it was still relatively easy to get out with this tool why on earth did they remove such useful functionality that a previous model had? Second, the "powered hand attachment" is total marketing double speak. It uses suction to drive the roller, not electricity. ANY pressure applied immediately stops the roller. It actually works WORSE than just using a regular non-powered attachment and is a complete waste. What's even more bizarre is that they could have easily made this attachment electrical, but chose not to. Overall it does what it is designed to do very well, but it could have been a truly stellar vacuum if they hadn't cheaped out in a couple of areas.

This Shark Stratos vacuum is a great replacement for my older Shark Apex vacuum. The assembly process was quick and easy! Attaching the hoses, roller head, and the odor blocking disc were a breeze. Vacuuming was fantastic!! I will admit, I love to vacuum, it’s something I have always enjoyed! The rollers clean themselves which was great to not have a ton of human and pet hair to remove. The included attachments and detachable hose, make cleaning the couch and getting into tight areas a snap! The only con I have it the handle when removed to reach corners, doesn’t have a light on it, my older Shark Apex had a light on the handle and made it easy to see where the dirt was hiding. The Shark Stratos easily becomes a canister vacuum to make cleaning the stairs (if you have them) or the car so much more efficient. I quite like the blue color and how versatile the Shark Stratos is to use! Cleaning carpet, hard floor, or getting the hard to reach areas of your home with little effort. The odor neutralizing disc is a welcome addition, makes the air smell fresh and covers up pet scents after vacuuming! I happy with this vacuum and weirdly look forward to using regularly, it’s so satisfying to see how much it picks up when I empty the canister after each use! Definitely one of my favorite Shark vacuums I have owned so far!

    Performs as a Vacuum should!

This is our second Shark vacuum that we have owned, and this unit is by far, the best vacuum we have ever owned. The suction power on this unit is far superior to the other model and better than another competitor's product of similar specifications and price. The ease of use of this well-balanced machine makes getting under furniture quite easy with minimal bending over. Going around items and furniture pieces is an absolute breeze as the unit head swivels perfectly with minimal force needed to make it move/turn. The bonus of this machine is that one can detach the unit at the base and carry the catch basin to get to hard-to-reach areas such as stairs, tops of window sills etc. It excels in picking up hair from my constantly shedding teenage daughter and the self-cleaning brush roll works as advertised – I have not had to untangle the roll as of a week of daily use. The odor neutralizing technology actually does function and work as advertised. Overall – this is a vacuum that performs as a vacuum should – great suction, ease of maneuverability, limited maintenance and ability to detach to reach hard places. I would highly recommend this product. A bit pricey, of course, but the old saying applies here – you get what you pay for!

This is a nice vacuum. The suction power is awesome and the motor is not over bearing and loud. The product came nicely packaged with all the normal attachments and instructions. Assembly was a snap, less than 10 minutes. The odorizing filter is a nice touch but I put it on the minimal setting to just get a hint of the freshness. The weight of this vacuum, however, is a touch on the heavy side. This makes maneuvering the vacuum around tight spaces a little difficult. Nothing to give a star off, just be aware that this weighs a little bit much. This probably is the motor which does a fantastic job. The controls being right at your thumb is really nice. Being able to switch heights based on the type flooring with a slide of your thumb, thumbs up! The cord is nice and long, making it less frequent to stop and change plugs. Emptying the dust bin is a breeze, just unhook, open up the bin on either end and the dust and dirt slide right out. Nothing hangs up and you just close it up and pop it right back in. Impressive machine, I recommend this vacuum.

My 30 year-old Electrolux cannister vacuum cleaner is still going, but I thought it might be time to find a replacement. Inevitably, little things here and there are ceasing to work, and I’m tired of buying bags for it, so this new Shark Stratos Duoclean vacuum caught my eye. We already have a cordless stick vacuum, and as much as I like it, I wanted to go back to a corded vacuum in hopes that it might provide more power for those times when I need that. The Duoclean is nicely packaged, and while you won’t find unboxing videos for a vacuum cleaner, I was still impressed with Shark’s packaging. They even included helpful hints inside the top flap of the box. It comes in several pieces, and following the helpful diagrams, I had it put together in short order. Each piece fits into the previous one with a satisfying “click” that lets you know you got it right. The Duoclean comes with an odor-neutralizing cartridge that is required in order for the vacuum to function. It has a pleasant smell that really does spread throughout the room as you vacuum. It’s not overpowering or cloying, so it’s a nice addition. You can even dial up or down the level of fragrance output. This is a nice touch! Once everything was assembled, it was time to try it out. For an upright, it’s a little heavy, but that’s not a problem at all because of how smoothly it moves. One very pleasant surprise was that it seems to have a ball joint where the vertical wand joins the motorized floor nozzle. This makes it easy to maneuver the vacuum in whichever direction you need to go. I have a large ottoman in my living room, and attempting to sweep under it revealed what at first appeared to be a limitation. The dirt cup (called the “pod”) has a pretty decent capacity, and that makes it stick out from the wand. This prevents you from getting under things like ottomans and couches. That’s when I realized that maybe this thing is more versatile than I imagined. The pod may be detached from the nozzle, effectively giving you a slim stick vacuum for getting under things. This was very easy to do—simply press the button to release the pod, lift it off with the built-in handle, and hold it aside while using your other hand to maneuver the nozzle under whatever you need to get under. Clicking the pod back in place reverts the vacuum to an upright. I did find that it’s very important to seat the pod on the nozzle/wand properly. I failed to do that once and it was impossible to remove it until I managed to get it properly seated again. If you’ve ever used the old uprights that also provided the ability to use above-floor tools, you’ll appreciate the way that Shark has implemented that feature on the Duoclean. There are multiple ways to do this: • Release the handle from the wand, attach a tool such as the crevice tool, and stretch the hose out as needed. • Release the handle and pod, giving you a portable vacuum cleaner completely independent of the nozzle and wand, to be used with the additional tools. • Release the pod and full wand, with the handle attached, giving you a portable vacuum with the reach to easily get those corners of the ceiling or other out of reach area, to be used with the additional tools. Having these abilities makes the Duoclean probably the most versatile vacuum I’ve ever owned. It really does combine the best features of a cannister vacuum with the maneuverability of an upright. And speaking of tools, it also comes with a smaller version of the beater-brush nozzle that you can use for cleaning your car, for example. When using the Duoclean as a traditional upright, you can take advantage of the LED headlights on the nozzle. This is not a new innovation, but it’s nice to have. The lights also serve as status indicators in case something goes wrong. For example, if you see flashing white lights, it indicates that you’re operating the Duoclean outside the normal operating temperature range of 32 – 104 degrees. I don’t know about you, but if you need to vacuum outside of those temps, you may have other things to worry about! The Duoclean has a robust filtering system as well. It includes a two-stage air filter that you rinse out when necessary, as well as a HEPA filter. This should do a fine job of making sure that nothing you vacuum up will come back out into the air. What about the main function of every vacuum—sucking up dirt? The Duoclean claims to have the most suction power of any Shark, and I believe it! Compared to my ancient Electrolux, and even my much newer cordless stick vacuum, the Duoclean picked up more debris than either of those. The dual rollers performed very well on carpets and hardwood floors, and switching between them was as easy as moving a slider to the appropriate setting. I’m very happy with the Duoclean, and if it lasts as long as the Electrolux, keeping our floors clean will never be a problem!

I have really enjoyed this vacuum so far. I have only used it a few times, so I can't speak for it's long term reliability. I love the swivel technology, so it can get into areas more easily. The 3 levels of flooring height work great. It smells fresh after the use. It really pulls up all the nasty stuff lingering and is very intense. Be sure headphones and stuff aren't laying around. It was so quick I couldn't save them! Haha. Great purchase and would definitely recommend.

This vacuum rocks, just getting that out of the way. Setup was simple, everything just snaps/clicks into place and then you're ready to rock and roll. I live in a house where there are 4 large dogs. A couple Boxers and a couple German shepherds for reference. Needless to say I need a vacuum to tackle the amount of hair I get. After one use I am convinced this trumps all other brands. I've been through many vacuums and Shark has always been the top of my list for a long time. On the first startup the vacuum takes off like a self propelled mower. The roller and suction is that strong leaving minimal effort when running it over carpet. I have both short pile and long pile carpet in the house and this vacuum had no issue with either. I have hardwood floors too, No problem. The handle of the vacuum has a switch to change between carpet types and hardwood. The amount of dirt, grime and dog hair this vacuum picks up is phenomenal. I was super impressed. And it had been a hot minute since this house had a good vacuuming. I emptied the cannister twice and its a large cannister, larger than most vacuums I've seen. My carpets haven't looked this good for a long time. The LEDs on the front of the vacuum are super bright and allows you to see dirt in dark places. Very helpful. I used the small roller attachment for the stairs and that thing whirls and actually gets fairly loud as its really spinning. This attachment made easy work of the stairs. Really cleaned them well. I'm sure it will work on the couches too as the dogs tend to hang out there. All in all I would say that this vacuum is the one to get for a house with shedding dogs and females with long hair. Speaking of that, after inspection there is no hair wrapped around the roller. The advertised self cleaning brush roll that Shark mentions is true. I'm impressed. So solid performing vacuum and one you should have in your house.

I have a somewhat older, larger vacuum that’s starting to show its age. It’s quite beefy both in terms of size/weight however it did a really nice job vacuuming carpets in my place. I always got those nice vacuum patterns in the carpet after a good clean. But it’s old and needed to be replaced. My place has hardwood, tile and carpet so I needed something that would handle all three floor types. Currently I had the big vacuum for carpets and a stick vacuum for the hardwood/tile. Worked well but it would be better if I had one for all three floor types. This Shark vacuum seemed to check off all the boxes in terms of my needs. With the included attachments I can clean any floor type as well stairs and even those pesky cobwebs in the ceiling corners. Pretty versatile vacuum that should fit just about any need. Their website states it’s the strongest suction of their line up or something to that affect. As with any new vacuum, I first cleaned a room with my old vacuum and then cleaned it with the newer one. I was surprised that it picked up quite a bit and a lot of it was smaller dust particles my other vacuum missed. Had about a 2-inch ball of dust in the bin after cleaning my room. I was pleased with this and proceeded to clean the other carpeted room as well as the hardwood floor in my living room. Eventually a sizeable dust bunny was living in the bin so I could clearly see it’s working as expected. This vacuum has a scent neutralizer in it as well. Basically, it’s an air freshener that you insert into the vacuum head. Smells nice however, after a while, it started to smell like burnt air freshener. Not sure if I like it all that much or not but, in some way/shape/form, it does help with any odors. I don’t have a pet to see how well it does at picking up pet hair but, after running it through my place, there was a pretty good-sized chunk of dust in the bin. I imagine it should have no issues picking up pet hair. The bin detaches from the base so you can tote it around for cleaning stairs or in smaller places. I like this feature and the hose extends a good enough that I haven’t run into any areas where it can’t reach. I’ve used this vacuum for a few days now and, really, haven’t had any issues with it in terms of functionality or uses. It provides ample suction to clean pretty thoroughly, has your typical attachments and is versatile enough where you can clean just about anywhere in your place. I have since ditched my older vacuum so I’m going with this one for the foreseeable future. Great vacuum and very versatile.

I will admit to being a bit of a snob when it comes to choosing appliance. I tend to buy long-established brands, even if the only connection to the brand’s heritage is its name. Until a couple of years ago when I tested an impressive Shark stick vacuum, I was not familiar with the brand which I saw as an appliance upstart. And then I tested the Shark Stratos which changed my perception completely. Here’s why. The packaging is composed of plastic protectors and cardboard, both easily recyclable. That matters to me. Assembly was absurdly easy and was literally a snap. Each piece connected solidly and convincingly, taking about 5 minutes from box opening to operating vacuum. (One item I found perplexing was the included Odor Neutralizer Cartridge which sits inside the floor nozzle. The benefits of this might be apparent in a room with odor issues, but as I have none, I could not detect any benefit.) Operating this vacuum showed its ingenuity and effectiveness. Used as an upright, the few controls are literally at one’s finger tips. In addition to the off/on switch there is a “Surface Selector” allowing the operator to choose a setting for thick carpets to hardwood floors. With each change, the vacuum adjusted quickly. In sum, upright cleaning was excellent as a result of variable settings, dual self-cleaning rollers, and a very strong suction. Of course, the unit has other beneficial capabilities. The suction unit and canister can be removed easily and function as a hand-held cleaner. Since the motor is the same, the suction remains strong. The variety of included tools gives the user several options for different cleaning challenges. All tools are interchangeable whether using in the upright, above-floor, or “Lift-Away” mode. In sum, I am still a snob, but consider this Shark to be among the very best vacuums within a premium brand. I think any buyer will be happy with the Shark Stratos' durability and functionality.

This is a good vacuum. It is surprisingly the amount of dirt collected. The “power” pet hair attachment is not as effective as the old Shark Navigator power attachment. I love the way the Shark upright vacuums easily separates; great engineering! I use my Shark Stratos quickly every day to vacuum dog hair. It seems to effective but gentle on the rugs.

I am still shaking my head wondering how I managed to vacuum my home prior to owning the Shark - Stratos Upright Vacuum with DuoClean PowerFins HairPro, Self-Cleaning Brushroll, Odor Neutralizer Technology. They claim this has the strongest suction of any "Shark" - and you better believe it. Carpets I have vacuumed and picked up a moderate amount of debris had a ton more that the shark picked up! I am a "puppy daddy" of a brown Cocker Spaniel. And when winter time comes around he starts to shed like you wouldn't believe. Other vacuums would practically give up, and the roller would freeze with the amount of fur involved. Not so with the Shark - Stratos Upright Vacuum with DuoClean PowerFins HairPro, Self-Cleaning Brushroll, Odor Neutralizer Technology. In fact, after vacuuming his favorite spot in the house to take a nap, not a single strand of fur was wrapped around the roller. Other things I appreciated about the Shark - Stratos Upright Vacuum with DuoClean PowerFins HairPro, Self-Cleaning Brushroll, Odor Neutralizer Technology was the fact the it has many different configurations. One, lets me easily vacuum the stairs *using a power head* without feeling like I was going to fall down. In addition, someone was listening and made the power cord SUPER LONG for such jobs! Hats off to shark for making "The king" of vacuums. if you are in the market to buy a new vacuum, it would be silly not to buy the Shark - Stratos Upright Vacuum with DuoClean PowerFins HairPro, Self-Cleaning Brushroll, Odor Neutralizer Technology. You would be cheating yourself out of features and POWER!

I've never used a shark vacuum I didn't love. We have several types of shark vacuums now that we use for different things. We keep a stick vac in the kitchen for quick clean up and use a robot vacuum for daily maintenance. But we have two kids and two cats so there is always mess or hair to be cleaned. We vacuum frequently and need something strong enough to get animal hair out of the carpet. This does the job and does it well. I love the upgraded rollers that don't clog with hair ever 5 minutes like cheaper vacuums have done in the past. The attachments for cleaning furniture and really getting into the cracks and crevices is a huge bonus. The filters are super easy to find for this brand and that's a big positive for me. Being able to lift the main portion of the vacuum off to resemble a stick vacuum and get under furniture saves a lot of time and energy. And the cord is nice and long as well as the hose so cleaning the ceiling and corners is very easy. Another huge positive is this vacuum isn't super heavy or hard to maneuver so our older son is able to help clean some of his messes now and learn another life skill without struggling much. Anyone looking for a pet vacuum that does it all won't be disappointed with this.

The suction on this vacuum is superb. We have a high end robot vacuum and a quality cordless that we use regularly. When we got this Stratos we were blown away with the amount of fine particulates this picked up. The dirt container filled up after one use across the house. There was no hair caught up in the rollers which was great. It was quick and easy to switch between carpet, tile, and area rug. On tile, the head did a good job of getting the dust along the edges. However, when on carpet I had to get the crevice tool out to get along the molding. It was handy to remove the body and do the stairs. The cord was a good length so that I didn't have to do a lot of outlet changes. I had a few issues with the vacuum that caused me not to give it 5 stars. The vacuum overall is pretty heavy. This caused it to be hard to maneuver. It was easier to use when the body was removed and held in one hand and used the other to vacuum. Also it doesn't seem very durable. The head was really beat up and the silver finish was scuffed off after one use. A longer hose would help for doing stairs so you don't have to move the body so much. Some things I wish it had was a retractable power cord and an elbow wand. It would of helped a lot to get under furniture if the wand had an elbow in it once you remove the body. I would still recommend this vacuum on the suction alone with a caution of durability and usability.
