The Echo Dot does require and Amazon Account, the Alexa App downloaded on a smart phone or tablet, and a working outlet to plug in. There are step by step instructions included in the box and most customers report 5 minutes or less. If you have further questions about the device, call us! Wife wanted notifications for blink in office also,,, easy add-on. Setup was straight forward with the Alexa app. Going to buy again for front room notifications.
