The fact that you get R3 (6,000usd) and R6 (2,600usd) performance inside this R8 Full Frame camera is awesome, to say the least. The Kit lens is okay. This is my first pro camera, and im already wanting to pick up a new lens. Not to say the kit lens is bad, its great to start with. The low light photography is top notch in this R8. I am extremely happy that I chose to go with the R8 instead of R10.

So I saw a lot of reviews here and there talking about overheating but I thought this was no real issue. Trust me it's a problem I didnt even get through the menu setting it up for the first time and the overheating meter was already over half way up!! I went out shooting photos and got in only a few with turning it off in between shots before not only did I see overheating again but it shut off saying overheat and then to top it off the battery after fully charging lasted only 38 mins for me. After looking online I turned on airplane mode to save battery as well as turned on the option for "low res standby" which supposedly helps with heating issues with a small body like this and this brought me up to 48 mins total battery before it died after another charge but it's still poor and was sitting at the red marking of overheating shooting photos and video no matter what settings I used even apsc mode or FHD 24p ipb light the easiest codec to record, I just dont get it. On a side note the battery meter on this is also crazy, you cant show a % number no matter what you do and you'd assume its like every other electronic in the world where half bars means 50% but it doesn't. According to the manual half on the battery meter means "battery is low" so with research half could mean 16%, 3/4 can be 51-99%, flashing is 15% or lower and with how small this battery is the could mean 1min or 15 you just never know. Had I known how watered down this one was I would have just gone with the R6ii but I think thats the point of why they made it like this so you simply move up the ladder and buy the more expensive camera. Its really a shame

Image quality is good, not excellent. User interface leaves a lot to be desired. 12 years since the T3i, nothing much seems to be improved for user ease of use. The menu and individual settings are hidden and hard to find. Only solace is that with the canon adapter, I can use all my old EF lenses. Not so happy with the build quality as well.
