    Best Windows Handheld Gaming Device

Hands down the best Windows gaming device on the market, if you don’t want to lug a gaming laptop around. It is super light, sleek, and comfortable to hold and game on for hours on end. The VRR 1080p screen is bright and vivid and makes the Steam Deck screen look dull and washed out. The Armoury Crate software is ok, but this thing is a gaming powerhouse that plays literally any Steam or PC AAA or indie or retro game. Exceeds all my expectations.

Works great as a standalone device , you do kinda have to pick and choose what games to install as it doesn’t have as much power as a high end desktop. If you do have a high end desktop it is a great streaming device to bring your games to the couch or bed, it is a little uncomfortable to hold after awhile though.

    Best Handheld Gaming PC

It is almost a month since release day, and my ROG Ally has been proving that is it a capable gaming PC in an handheld form factor. It was easy to clone over the SSD to 1TB ssd and now I have it running all my steam games, as well as do emulation, and run non-steam games like b.net and GoG stuff. Add a keyboard, mouse, and monitor and you have a gaming laptop and competitive with equivalent $700 gaming laptop. The performance is simply unparalleled and blows the steamdeck out of the water by large margins. Windows 11 however is a nasty thing Microsoft has imposed on all current gen x86 hardware. It needs to customized, tuned, and tamed before you can really use any Win11 device, and this is doubly true for ROG Ally. You need do a lot win11 tweaks to get it to harmonize with the way you want to use a handheld PC in the handheld use case. It is a lot of trial and error find the settings you like. Use it with a keyboard, mouse, and monitor/tv then there is less to fuss about but I never liked Win11 in its default settings and configuration. It is best to start off using the ROG Ally with keyboard, mouse, and monitor attached and work thru all the setup., configuration, and tuning of the Win11 installation. When you are comfortable with that then you start tailoring it for handheld use.

I recently purchased the Asus ROG Ally, and I'm thrilled with its performance as a gaming device and mini PC. It has been a godsend for emulation, effortlessly running games from the PS3, Nintendo Switch, and GameCube flawlessly. While the battery life isn't the greatest, it has worked well for me during gaming sessions. With its powerful features and versatility, the Asus ROG Ally is a must-have for gamers and emulation enthusiasts alike. Highly recommended! Five stars!

The ROG Ally is a great on the go gaming system for those who dont have a gaming laptop. This console is fully supported Windows 11 PC and I can install other gaming apps on here. I was able to install Final Fantasy 14 and play it on the ROG Ally with no issues. I did upgrade the SSD on it to get more storage space.

Great device, plays my games smoothly most of the time and it looks great! There are some quirks navigating windows 11 on the small screen and the sound seems to crackle for no apparent reason. The battery life is okay, but you need to bump the settings down to keep the fans from being loud and to stretch the gameplay time. I'm happy with it, but it is not perfect.

Spent a lot of time and research into this decision and held off from a review for the first couple months after the purchase. This is an excellent device and brings a lot to the table for starts. I am an avid pc builder and have built close to 10 high end pcs for either myself, friends and relatives. I own game consoles like the xbox series x on top of that for a more casual set up. So experience laid out, ive done and seen a lot. The Rog ally is no slouch, Asus has done alot since the launch of the device and product support seems strong. Repair-ability is also strong. Easy to change things internally and for the most part those changes dont void your warranty. The device itself is a strong preformer on any title i have thrown at it. For reference getting triple digits in fps on games like fortnite, cod mw2, tiny tinas wonderland and more. I did do some things to debloat windows for preformance gain and have set the vram allocation to 6gbs across the board. This thing is SNAPPY, very speedy when it comes to maneuvering the windows interface. The cpu in this thing is a monster, amazing how so much is packed into such a form factor. And it shows itself when it comes to gaming. It has tons of cool features built in and really makes it a whole experience, never feeling like too much of a drag away from an actual desktop. I havent used my pc in about a month since ive truly converted to main use being this. I can play xbox games via console stream with hardly any difference from my console while on the move. Same for pc, you can stream your pc via steam to the device and control it. The ability of this thing improves almost weekly and Im gonna be the first to say it, i think this is an impressive direction for gaming. I highly recommend the device.

So convenient to use, and super portable. Some games require some tinkering to maximize quality, and I do recommend playing with it plugged into the charger, for better battery life and quality. I got this along with Elden ring, and it runs fantastically. As someone who travels for work, sometimes you just want to lay down at the end of the day and get comfortable, and this is the perfect device. I would also advise you to purchase more storage separately.

Good handheld Windows gaming machine. You will have to fiddle with game and machine settings to get the best performance. Some people will expect more of a console experience and be disappointed with this device. Battery life isn't the best, but with the performance of the device and the size that is normal.

Is this device perfect? No. Is it better than its competitors? Yes. I sold my Deck a week after buying this and I have to say, while it can be frustrating at times, the hassle is worth it to have full Windows on a gaming handheld. When this thing works well, it is a game changer no pun intended. The screen and ability to play true AAA games on the go is reason enough to buy. I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone that is more tech savvy and looking for a gaming device!

There is always room for improvement, so I want to be clear that software is not 100% perfect. Armory crate can be buggy and running windows on a small touch screen poses some extra difficulties without a keyboard. Initial setup was confusing since I did not setup an additional keyboard which is needed to create a virtual keyboard to access the wifi which is required on windows 11. Excellent screen, nice controls, very quiet, and it is compatible with windows games!

The best purchase i've ever made. Solid 1080p 60fps dedicated gaming, Driver Support is awesome and the only gripes i have is the speaker could be better and the battery life is trash however it is a handheld PC so you'd need a 65w portable charger. The only thing i'd suggest over this is the Legion if you really want Joy Cons,

I love this thing. It was a little rough setting it up and updating it. Once that was done this thing runs everything very well, and quietly. Battery life isn't the best when running AAA games but still a few hours. A nice battery Pack the give 65W really helps.

    Windows is the Best

I got it so I could play games when I'm away from my main desktop computer. I have a laptop PC I use for non-gaming stuff when away from the desktop, I have a main desktop PC I use for everything, and I use this ROG Ally for games when I'm away from my desktop PC. What can I say? The ROG Ally is awesome. It uses Windows which is the best thing ever. Having Windows means I can play millions of games I can't on any other device. I can play DOS games all the way up to today's games. That's 40+ years of games. I can use the controller in the ROG Ally for DOS games. I can set-up the controller to use for any game. I can use the thumb stick for mouse driven games if I wanted to play any. It's not as good compared to an actual mouse, but all you do is move a cursor around with a thumb stick, it's easy peasy. It's not rocket science. The software that comes with it is easy to use. Windows itself is easy to use. Windows has been around for almost 40 years now. Everyone should know how to use it. The Armour Crate it comes with it also easy to use. It's really great how it put all your games into one place so you can easily start them up. On a bonus plus side, this can also be used for anything, from Photoshop to video editing to anything else. It's not as powerful as a desktop PC can be, but if I ever wanted to use it as desktop PC, I could easily do that. I just plug it into a monitor and add a keyboard and mouse. All of a sudden I have a pretty competent and powerful PC I can use for anything. I didn't buy it for that, but I have that option if I ever wanted to. It's like a small portable PC I can use for literally anything. Really cool device. I'm super happy with it. Experience has been awesome. Windows is the best. Armory Crate is the best. Hardware is top quality. Performance is awesome.

My biggest issue with the Rog ally is battery life and also how warm it gets but that’s not to say that it is one of the most powerful handhelds on the market 120 hertz display full 1080p if your looking for something hand held that can play AAA games at high settings this is what you want.

I could not wait for this item to release. I have an ROG gaming laptop that I absolutely love and have never regretted purchasing. When this was announced I knew I would purchase on day one. The first couple of weeks were great and I loved playing Xbox game pass games as well as PC version of games like Overwatch and League of Legends. As time went on update after update I noticed that things were starting to get a little laggy. It got so bad at one point that I ended up having to factory reset the whole unit to see if starting from scratch would bring back my joy. The unit performed very well overall but over time starting again to lag on certain things. I was never able to achieve close to 120hz frame rate on games. Sound is absolutely incredible. I think this item was a little premature or still has some time to work out the bugs. The concept of it is great and I hope Asus continues to improve this category as I am a big fan. I ended up returning it in the long run due to the issues I faced and that in order to make this perform I would need to add more and more money to it to get anywhere close to my gaming laptop. I would recommend it you don’t have a gaming laptop already and are wanting something that is truly portable.

Overall it is is a great device. It has issues such as crashing occasionally and poor battery life. But keep in mind the 'handheld gaming PC' is still relatively new technology. So there are bound to be issues with any of the new handhelds. Personally I thought the device felt uncomfortable in my hands after a while gaming.
