Easy to use, powerful enough depending on games
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this as a gift for my little brother, (10) he’s not super familiar with windows but he hasn’t run into any issues yet, had to explain all the areas that he needs to check for updates but other than that it’s really not that difficult. Have not installed any other OS because he uses game pass and it’s nice having every game available to play. Only minor issue is battery, can only play about an hour but for someone young that’s a good thing

King of the handhelds.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Has performed up to my expectations, screen fps is unbelievable. Only thing keeping this device from getting a 5 star is battery length. If you want top performance you will have to leave it plugged in.

Fun and flexible gaming
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very capable and fun gaming machine. It's easy to navigate and use and downloading games is easy. The battery life is fairly short so I typically have to plug it in and occasionally it freezes and I can't exit a game without force closing it but it's a Windows machine so that was expected.

Excellent steam deck contender
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best gaming portable device. I also have the steam deck and this one beats it. The screen is the best part of the ROG! It's also compatible with more games without fiddling. The ergonomics are a bit worse than the steam deck. Battery life is as expected. The sound is amazing.

Awesome.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love it. Works great runs fast. I’m constantly on the road away from my pc so this is a huge help for those boring downtimes away from home. Would love it even more if it possessed more storage and vram but what you get is still very useful.

Great, but not perfect
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Windows is both the ROG Ally’s biggest strenth and weakness, in my opinion. Native compatibility with all the various digital storefronts is obviously a big one-up on the Steam Deck, but there’s no denying that the Deck has a more streamlined interface and intuitive user experience. Neither one is as dead simple as a PS5 or Xbox, but it took me significantly longer to get the Ally up and running than when I originally setup my Steam Deck. That said, the ROG Ally is clearly superior in horsepower, and the native compatibility with all the digital storefronts (not to mention PC Game Pass) means its the better choice in my book.

It’s awesome but it’s expensive
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love it! Runs pretty much any game I put on it. The battery life could be better especially for the price you’re paying. I also wish it had a black version. White gets dirty pretty quick

Best hand held console
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Way better than a steam deck. It’s a simple windows computer operated with a controller. It runs a lot of games on high and ultra setting without any problems. Battery is not amazing but it’s performance makes up for it.

Full PC in a handheld body.
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely love having a portable pc this small. It’s great for gaming but also great for almost anything else you’d want to do on a PC. Word processing, video editing (best with mouse and bigger monitor but still works in a pinch), and so much more. Highly recommend! My only complaint is that the controller is lopsided. Wish the sticks were parallel and not one higher up on the controller. It’s not comfortable for me but I know a lot of people don’t care either controller layout.

Excellent device
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is crazy. I love it. I have both this and the Steam Deck and I much prefer the Ally. Screen is way better, more powerful, runs Windows 11 out of the box, and is way more comfortable to hold.

ASUS has a winner
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.ASUS has come in to the handheld segment just right. I have the Steam Deck and the GPD Win Max 2 6800u... performance the Ally is the winner. I play mostly shooters on my devices. Upgraded the ssd easier than the steam deck. About comparable battery life running higher than 720p.

Incredible Machine!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This hand held is quite literally everything I've ever wanted. It's a switch and gaming PC all in one. I can emulate everything up through PS3 flawlessly. And I'm even playing BRAND NEW PC TITLES like Jedi Survivor at 40FPS in medium settings. It's crazy. LOVE this thing

The ROG Ally is a fun, handheld gaming PC!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really enjoying the Ally! I’m new to PC gaming so it’s been a bit of a learning curve with some aspects of the device but overall it’s been great. No issues with the Ally whatsoever. Anything I’ve struggled with just took a bit of time and patience along with a lot of YouTube and the official ROG Ally Discord. I know some buyers have had legitimate hardware issues. I think many folks bought one expecting a game console-like experience and unfortunately they got more than they expected. For longtime PC Gamers, they knew what they were getting into. The gamers that didn’t have the patience to learn the Ally’s ins and outs are the ones returning or exchanging the Ally thinking is something is wrong but more than likely is just user error. TheSteamdeck also had growing pains when it was released a year ago. Those who were patient and stuck with watched the Deck get better with time. Same will happen with the Ally. Patience and understanding is key.

Great Product
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s an overall great product. I wish it came with a 1tb ssd installed already, but it didn’t. But the screen shows really well and works really well. I like the Xbox controller layout.

The little machine that could.
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Runs everything you need to like a champ. Also it's windows 11, so that's a bonus. Games such as Tekken 8 have locked 60fps on medium. Baldur's gate 3 split-screen coop works at 30+ on low. Street fighter 6 gets locked 60 at high-ultra settings. This little machine worked well at the $600 I bought it for, to see it go even lower makes it so much more accessible. I am not the biggest fan of its D-Pad for fighting games, however I mostly use external controllers. Storage is 512 gb, so it is upgradable if you tear it apart, or slap an SD card in it. I recommend the Rog Ally Z1E, even if you don't want to spring for the X.

Could Be Awesome, but Not Yet
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just returned. Setup and updating took a while. Performance and screen were great, but the armory crate menus were so clunky and froze. I expected bad battery life, but this was worse than I could have prepared for. Sticking with my steam deck when/if ASUS releases some fixes or has an inevitable pro version in a few months. I know they don’t have the best track record with customer service though
No, I would not recommend this to a friendBrand response from ASUS Answers
Posted .Dear JamesL,
We do understand your disappointment and the inconvenience.
Usually, the system freeze or stability issues with the device are resolved by a BIOS update. Also, making sure Windows and drivers are up to date. BIOS and drivers are posted at: https://rog.asus.com/ph/gaming-handhelds/rog-ally/rog-ally-2023/helpdesk_download/. While accessing cloud games or web applications, please ensure the unit has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since poor and unstable internet connection will definitely affect system speed and performance.
If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and I would be happy to help. Or, you are most welcome to call Product Support Hotline at: 1(888) 678-3688. Also, you can chat with an ASUS live support agent from the link: https://www.asus.com/us/support/article/1135/.
