Mixed feelings.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good performance for a handheld PC. Supporting software is not perfect but very good and almost convinces that this is a viable handheld gaming device. Poor battery life as a Windows PC. Terrible battery life as a handheld gaming device. SD card is susceptible to overheating by design. Inefficient when you want battery life.

Amazing Performance, Held Back By Software Issues
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ally is an amazing portable gaming device, and has all the performance I can ask for. However, asus needs to do some work on the software side of things. Essentially, there are multiple apps that you need to use to update this device. Asus does not tell you about one of them called “my asus,” where you get bios updates as well as other firmware updates from. Additionally, the armory crate software is not the most intuitive piece of software.

Love it
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all dont believe all thr bad reviews, because many of those are from people who barely ynderstand how to turn on a cellphone, let alone set up a computer. It requires some patience and knowledge. If you dont have the knowledge be patient, the system requires many updates since its been wokred on by Asus and some Windows drivers also need to be updated. At most this will take you an hour or so, but once you get eveyrthing up and ready. Tryst me, the Ally plays all your games beautifully, so dont be dissapointed at first. The console is amazing for its size.

Gaming is fun again
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I LOVE this thing. I also have a Steam deck and wanted to try this because I play Xbox games. The screen is so much better than the Steam Deck and I actually understand Windows vs Linux. Its just built entirely for a different consumer than the Steam Deck and that consumer is me. I would not hesitate if you have the cash and are looking to get into handheld gaming and want to play games outside of the Steam ecosystem easily.

Coul be better
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Device is beautiful and feels good in the hands. Performance is good but still has some bugs that needs to be addressed and windows 11 sometimes makes it impossible to use. Battery life is terrible, specially if you want to play AAA games on the go. Probably need to wait some time to see if it improves with software updates but overall is a great device

Buy it!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent device!! Would highly recommend it! I have this and the Lenovo legion go and recommend them both. Honestly this device has better speakers than the legion, but the screen on the legion is amazing because it is larger.

Recommend you buy, ONLY on sale.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this handheld for my birthday and I think its decent, but after a software update from ASUS there has been a pretty annoying software bug. Whenever you use the Legacy Command Menu that was replaced by a new menu, and you open the menu to switch power options, it bugs the controls and switches between Desktop controls and Gamepad controls and it gets annoying when i'm unable to control my game. Second bug i have notice is when I play a game, at certain random intervals it would boot me to the home screen of Windows. This is only recommended at cheap prices or when on sale.

Love it!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had the Rog since the day it was released frim Best Buy and I love it. Mind you I am coming ftom 100% console play, therefore never really been into PC gaming. I could never really get into the aspect of gaming from a gaming PC, even knowing they have better preference. Therefore after months of research I went with the Rog over the Steam Deck. My reason was based on overall the Rog has less limitations than the competition at a great price. Ive read countless nitpicky reviews from PC gamers that leaves me asking why they just didnt stick to PC.

Surprised at how good it is!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After owning a Steam deck for the past year, I’ve been extremely pleased with the ability to play games that were off limits on the deck. I’m familiar with Windows for gaming, but mostly a Mac user. I’ve been very pleased with how well the Rog Ally works given the normal exceptions you need to make for Windows. Yes, there are more updates and tweaking necessary than a more closed platform, but as usual with Windows, you get maximum flexibility and ALL the options. I’ve enjoyed my time with the Rog Ally so far, and would definitely recommend it.

My new Final Fantasy Machine
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amazing purchase, handheld PC gaming made easy and accessible. I get great battery life playing indie games and emulating my old games. Perfect machinr for playing through the first 15 Final Fantasy games (3-4 hours of battery life on all of those games) and even handlea FF16 and the remakes well albiet with ~1 hour of battery. Only other downside for newer games is the limited storage, but streaming games from my dedicated PC tower helps both the battery and save on onboard storage.

Great for casual playing
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm really enjoying it. It's made playing single player games fun again. I could be understanding it wrong but sometimes when I power it on it just shuts off, even though the battery isn't dead. After a couple of tries it works. But other than that everything is working great.

Sweet
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Ally is a pretty neat little device. As more updates roll out this thing will have the optimization I think many gamers are looking for. Compared to the Alienware or the ROG Big Rig I custom built it can handle solid 1080P graphics and I average 70-80 fps on the really GPU intense games like Dead Island or CP2077. The option to dock it and connect keyboard and mice through Bluetooth is nice. If you are trying to game on a budget I would recommend this. If you are looking for something a little more powerful for the price point stick with a Ps5.
