ok, I have both the Steam Deck and the Rog Ally. Both are similar in size, and have the same screen size, resolution, and storage. that's where the similarities end. Here is where the Rog Ally excels over the Steam Deck. 1: ability to adjust and customize the GPU settings. can't adjust the GPU settings on the Steam Deck. 2: ability to play all Steam games. Steam Deck is still having compatibility issues. 3: recognizes external storage devices like thumb drives. Steam Deck does not. 4: full version of Windows 11 all in all a much better and more versatile unit than the Steam Deck.

The good - it's a nice piece of hardware for the price. It quite literally will run aaa games usually on low-mid settings (still looks great on the small screen) windows is not as bad to deal with on the handheld as some say (if you're not looking for the console experience the steam deck provides). The bad - the buttons and joysticks don't feel aaa, they feel like a well built but generic brand controller, think powera or whoever makes the decent off brand Nintendo stuff. And as everyone else has said, setup is a pain to get everything updated and running correctly.

Very cool handheld PC. It really is a PC. The unit does get a little hot after an hour or more of usage. Very cool for getting your gaming fix while on the road. Great for frequent travelers.

Where do I start? This thing really has been my ALLY since I purchased it. I was waiting for Dell to drop the UFO but Asus got the jump on them and made all the things I wanted about a handheld come true that the steam deck just didn't have. Full windows 11 with microsofts blessing + support, constant driver upgrades to enchance the performance, inverted thumbsticks, beefier hardware, a 1080p 120hz freesync display with 100% SRGB coverage, and all the AMD goodies baked in like like the 720p to 1080p resampling that gives you insane fps boosts on a handheld like this. I've had a blast using a mouse and keyboard with this thing at work on my breaks, and often I use itas my main work PC! Can't recommend it enough!

Great mobile option when not at your battlestation. Having a job where travel is often, it’s more convenient than a laptop and offers more games than the switch.

ROG Ally is the best gaming handheld ive owned. I have the Steam Deck and the Ally and i pick up the Ally almost everytime for handheld gaming. The Steam Deck is a more comfortable grip but the Ally is so much more versatile. I play all kinds of games and the Ally can handle all of them. It takes some tweaking to get your games set up right but there are so many guides out there for specific game settings. 10/10 would recommend. Cant wait to see what ROG will do next for handheld gaming

Ive been in the market for a handheld like this for quite sometime.. Ive done much research on the ROG Ally and the Steam Deck and you cant compare it to the steam deck the steam deck is a linux based handheld that runs specific games basically SteamOS. However the ROG Ally is running a full version of windows 11 and that alone tells you what kind of games you can play. Its also running a Z1 Extreme processor and withs its built in APU I’m running Starfield at between 30-50 FPS on medium settings. I love this purchase.. so long switch.

Awesome device for playing on the go whatever title you throw at it.

I've been using the ROG Ally for a few months, and it's become my go-to gaming device. The Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor handles demanding games with ease, and the 120Hz display makes everything look smooth. It's comfortable to hold, the battery life is decent, and the ability to connect to a TV or external monitor is a huge plus. Overall, I'm incredibly impressed with the ROG Ally and would highly recommend it to any PC gamer.

I LOVE THIS THING! The ROG Ally has replaced my Steam Deck this will be my DAILY DRIVER for a long time that's how good it is. ONLY downside to this device is the battery so come-on Asus get it together!

like all handhelds battery lacks longevity the asus rog ally is a very powerful gaming hand held so it makes sense the battery doesnt last long but is my only comolain about the whole thing i love the versatility being avke to play steam xbox epic it opens up the gaming catalogue available to you by ten fold checking your email surfing the web listening to music and waching videos ..truely amazing but buy a back up power bank

Absolute blast! Really great device. Have had zero issues. Surprised by battery life after watching YouTube Reviews. Plays Wildlands, Diablo 4 and Far Cry 5 extremely well.

I have used the Ally about 10 times over the course of the last 4 weeks. When it loads up a game, it looks great and runs fast. The battery life is lacking for a "portable" device. It has needed an OS update every 2-3 uses. It hasn't caused an issue in some games, but I have had issues running a couple of games. Controls feel a little clunky and I have bought a bluetooth keyboard and mouse to use with it. I would probably purchase it again, but not at this price point.

love it. it runs any game i throw at it. it’s gotten me back into gaming again. and it can be docked to w monitor to use as a full on PC

I've been using my Ally for two years now and haven't looked back. I had really debated a Steam Deck at the time but love the fact that I can easily play across services including Steam, Epic, GOG, and more without having to hack or bypass anything. Only issue I had was the memory card slot was bad and ASUS quickly fixed that for free with no issues. Great, powerful device.

Feels premium despite being plastic. Buttons and sticks feel amazing. Screen is super bright and crisp. Dual fan system is quiet. Performance is amazing. Its almost like a handheld gaming laptop!

Great device for on the go gaming. As someone who works and has little time and energy to game on my pc setup after a long day, this device is a lifesaver. The only really downside for me is the battery capacity but since I mostly play at home or where there is a nearby outlet t plug in its not really a big problem.

The ROG Ally is a pretty solid handheld that fits pretty well in my hands, while the steam deck is a bit unwieldy. Games run great once you get them running. I ran into an issue where gamepass games wouldn't run due to the windows clock being set to the wrong time. The set up itself could be too much if the person isn't tech smart. Once you go through the standard Windows setup, youll be greated to multiple updates. More advanced users might want to use PowerShell to remove some bloatware/ windows apps that aren't needed.

This device is an absolute workhorse. With this being said, I could not justify keeping the device and ended up returning it. I believe windows is the downfall of the device, not having a trackpad, made navigating windows a lot more difficult. For me, its not about having a device with the most performance as i have a beefy gaming pc already, which is why im going with the steam deck, because of the more affordable pricepoint. For someone that does not have a windows pc, I highly recommend this device its incredible.

Excellent size to power ratio. Can run up to latest AAA games, may be difficult to play newer games coming out. If you are somewhat tech savvy, tweaking setting can yield best results with latest games. Get on sale, best deal for powerful handheld gaming.
