This thing is a hand held beast

I have no issues once you figure out all the things you can customize to get a game runnig good for you. Finally Emudeck is now so rasy to install this thing is perfect.

You are basically a paying beta tester. This dose not bother me and I actually don’t mind. I highly recommend it if you don’t mind tinkering a little.

This was my last Asus device ever.

Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was torn between the Steam Deck and this one, but for the price, you get “better specs” and it’s “Asus!” I bought it when I was about to become a father, hoping I could sneak in some gaming time while watching the baby. Never happened. Barely touched it for months. Then I added a microSD card—dead in 10 minutes. Tried another—same thing. Googled it, and sure enough, Asus placed a CPU heat pipe directly over the SD card slot, essentially cooking every card. They offered a “free repair,” but Reddit posts showed that after waiting a month, all they did was slap some aluminum tape between the pipe and the slot. The cards still burned, just lasted an extra five minutes. I hardly used it until one day I installed Stellar Blade. Finally thought I found a use for it since I love that game. Played 20 minutes, turned it off. Next day: random colored pixels on screen, forced shutdown, and it never booted again. Only the Asus logo. No BIOS, no OS. Asus support said, “Send it to a repair shop since your warranty expired… four days ago.”

Almost Perfect....

BUT, once Asus fixes all of this, you will have one of the best handheld devices to date. If this thing had an OLED screen...it would've scored a 10 from me, even with the bugginess.

Solid device

Understanding that it is a newer device (1st gen) there will be some ups and downs with it but as of now im very pleased with it. Set up was a bit of a pain but a little research got me through.

The controlls for surfing the web is like using a phone and not to mention how easy it is to just download a game launch it and switch to controller mode. All the reviewers on youtube who say windows sucks are just a bunch of nerds looking at 4 fps difference

Ever since I got the rally life been so great to me. Everybody thinks I'm the ultimate geek and I love it. Definitely highly recommend.

Defective buttons & overheats and shuts down

I own multiple ROG products and this one in particular was a huge letdown. I don't know what happened with Asus's quality control, but they need to seriously revise this product. When I unbox the Ally, the B button was popping out and I had to pop it back into place and I though that was the end of that. Then I noticed that the right bumper was defective, as it would not click or push down no matter how hard I tried. I made sure that nothing was stuck in between but it seems that it was just broken. From here I went back to BestBuy to get it exchanged. Now with my second unit in hand, all the buttons and controls were fine. After a few hours of making sure it was fully updated, I booted up Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 to test out the performance. Long story short, the Ally *SHUT DOWN* without warning in the middle of gameplay. When I tried to turn it back on it would not let me until some time passed. This then happened AGAIN A SECOND TIME. Based off the behavior, it seems that the Ally was overheating and shutting down to prevent damage to the components. It is crazy to me that this was happening considering that the fans were working fine and the air vents were not being blocked. At a price point of $700, it seems that Asus needs to better optimize this device, as shutting down midgame is completely unacceptable.

Great but not user freindly

But you gotta have the time to tweak it the way want it. Ultimately a hassle unless you're moderately tech savy and have the time

Broken joystick

Great if you're used to PC gaming

The Ally is a great device with the understanding that it is literally a pc which means you must update drivers and config settings to work properly. Ots definitely not a Gameboy in which you just plug and play. Outside of that i love this device.

I play a lot of games and I enjoy molding them like New Vegas. It runs them all really well it even plays starfield not on its highest settings but it’s very playable

I LOVE THIS CONSOLE, HATE BEST BUY

I got it, runs fine, plays fine, it may hwve a faulty SD reader but i havent checked. Anyways, my issue comes with my right joy stick, that literally DOESNT WORK. How is best buy going to sell a HANDHELD gaming PC in “excellent” condition without even testing the joysticks? One of the issues with the joystick is that it made the mouse go left completely without any inputs even being given so I THINK they didnt even test it ar all. I am now having to spend an extra $70 (the ammount I saved on buying used) to get it repaired. Lost over $500 dollars that wont be back for another month or so. Not to mention when I called best buy they said it wasnt their problem.
