A hassle to work with! + SD card failure

Its true the SD card fails due to the proximity of the SD card and the heatsink. I am returning this tomorrow and may purchase it on the second version. For now the Steam deck is "king" of the PC gaming handhelds

Cool but mine was defective.

Never got to try anything super heavy. Got through most of Lies of P. My unit was defective though. I purchased the geeksquad refurbished but it had some pretty sever problems. The outside looked good but the display would just go to black during play. The joysticks have a bad rubbing problem and slowly shred the plastic as you play. It was returned and I will be looking to get the Legion Go. If you just want easy pc games to play on the go, the you will enjoy it.

Based on the issue described, we recommend updating the BIOS. It is recommended to download and update the BIOS and firmware for system performance optimization. Ally > Steam Deck

The Steam Deck wins in terms of user friendliness, but the Ally takes the trophy for features and specs without question. I had to tinker a bit and watch a few videos to really figure it out but its worth it.

Haven’t been able to get the microSD card to work on it, and it works on my other computers. The microSD is formatted correctly. Waiting for a fix.

lts awesome but would wait...

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had my ally for about 1 week and i had to return it, the right joystick had a strange jerk or click sound whenever i did a full rotation of the joystick and my right bumper was very clicky while my left one was quiet. My second ally i had it for 1 day and it was a working perfectly fine but after the setup the left speaker started to sound terrible and ultimately went out. I would honestly wait a few months to pick up this device feels like it was rushed out and the quality in some units show. If asus can iron out all the quality control issues this could be an awesome device.

Returned after < a week, dissapointing

That considered, the ROG Ally bucks this trend. The sticks feel like gum drops on toothpicks, though the center switches are solid; the ABXY buttons on my unit (manufactured May-2022) kept sticking in the housing while also not registering repeated presses, consecutively; the ROG software is buggy even with the latest updates (Jun-22); and the display panel on mine arrived with serious backlight bleed along the top and right-hand side perimeters (as in it was visible in ambient indoor lighting conditions). Mine also arrived with what sounded like several small pieces of broken plastic rattling around inside the housing; noticed it the first time I picked it up out of the box before removing the plastic wrapping. The compute power, display (when not defective) and size/weight of this thing are great--no question that these three features beat the Steam Deck both on paper and in reality. Yet the ROG Ally is really limited by the poor quality of its surroundings from a company that absolutely knows better.

Gaming portability success

After the set up process I was able to watch videos on how to maximize the usage of this unit. ROG ALLY is a great multipurpose device.

It’s best to gave the fans maxing out at about 75c to be save and continue the 100% max to 94c to be safe. In my own experience my Rog Ally hasn’t passed 68c doing it this way.

My only gripe is that the bios updates was annoying. Also, the needing to switch between touchscreen and butons has been a little frustrating. All in all. It's great and I'm excited for the future of handheld gaming.
