    Ok heres my honest review on this product. I purchase it play with it at first very enjoyable but then. The issues started the device would start to freeze. And hang up i would trouble shiktnit reinstall drivers reinsrall games even did factory reset workmok forna couple days then sterted again. Different fames not just one but what st me on giving up is the sound started to fail crackling

    Purchased and return. Good specs and price but OS integration with controls is lacking. A lot of config needed. Steam deck is more pick up and play where this needs tinkering

    I recently pre-ordered the highly anticipated ASUS ROG Ally Extreme and received it with high hopes, only to be met with utter disappointment. From the moment I unboxed it, it became clear that something was seriously wrong. The console wouldn't even switch on, leaving me frustrated and questioning the quality control of ASUS.     1st Rog defective.. maybe the 2nd will be better

    On battery, at least three times in a row (ordered a replacement after the 3rd attempt) system would fail to get pass the logo screen. Let this go on for about 5-10 minutes a pop. Hoping it was a defective unit and hoping the 2nd one does not do the same.

    Great potential, currents trash

    Had it for 12 hours and its nothing but problem after problem. Can't play Gamepass, or anything else since it wont recognize the built in controller. Hours of updates semmed to only make things worse. All this did was make me appreciate the Steamdeck more

    Windows ruins another good device.

    Windows 11. All you need to know. It makes everything a headache requiring keyboard with USB-C connection or USB-C hub with a keyboard transition to be able to boot the first time. It only gets worse.

    Absolutely awful User Interface, ASUS support sucks, softwarecand hardware issues galore. As a PC user for decades, having to tinker with settings to get every single game to run without crashing is awful for a device like this. I don’t mind tinkering on desktop but I would expect this device to run better from the start.

    The Asus ROG Ally is my new best friend. I’ve always loved handheld gaming but also loved PC gaming. While there are other PC handhelds out there, some of which I have owned, none strike as beautiful of a balance as the ROG Ally. Excellent performance, gorgeous display lightweight, and decent battery life. Let’s start with performance. Performance Further down you will see what performance was like on a per game basis, but overall I experienced solid performance across the board when using the 15w Performance setting. There are 3 different power settings provided in the very handy pop up menu, 10w Silent, 15w Performance, 25w Turbo (30w when plugged in). I found myself most of the time using the 15w mode as it was the best balance of performance to battery life. Most games required 15w or higher if you were looking for more than 30fps although 2D games like Spiritfarer achieved 60fps on 10w no problem. As far as FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution), I found some games could take advantage of it like Control to get that boost in performance and fidelity when playing at 720p while others like Persona 5 Royal did not look good when using it so I had to stick with 1080p no FSR. Each game does take a certain amount of tinkering to find optimal settings, but that’s something I’ve never minded doing. Check out the data below on performance and settings, I tried to apply a larger swath of game types to testing. Performance Data: Control: Ultimate Edition - 15w Performance, Medium Quality, 720p, FSR = 45fps Fights in Tight Spaces - 15w Performance, 2x AA, 1080p = 90fps Persona 5 Royal - 15w Performance, 1080p, FXAA, Shadow Quality and DoF Low = 50fps Final Fantasy VII Retrograde - 15w Performance, 1080p, Texture High, Shadow Low = 60fps Citizen Sleeper - 15w Performance, 1080p = 60fps Spiritfarer - 10w Silent, 1080p, High = 60fps User Experience Asus has done a fantastic job of adding features on top of Windows to be able to control settings and operate Windows in a handheld touchscreen fashion (which Windows typically doesn’t handle well). The Armoury Crate is a universal launcher that surfaces all your games and game stores in one place so that you don’t have to flip between several different launchers to remember where your game is installed. It does a great job of keeping you out of Windows as much as possible to spare you the headache, but easily lets you access it whenever necessary. A problem that does arise though is that because it is Windows with Asus sprinkled on top, you have to update multiple things in multiple places. You have Windows updates, Armoury Crate updates, AMD updates, on top of all of your launcher updates then game updates. Overall I appreciate having Windows on the machine as you don’t run into issues playing games that have DRM such as Diabo IV, MW Warzone, and Apex Legends. Although I could really use not having to delete all the bloatware that comes with Windows. Battery Life This is a handheld and while it has amazing hardware inside with that sweet sweet RDNA 3 architecture, the downside is that with more power comes less battery life (usually). Compared with other handheld gaming consoles, this is likely towards to bottom. It’s not terrible, but definitely middling. With the above games at the above settings, I got the following battery life figures (your mileage may vary): Battery Life Data: Control: Ultimate Edition: ~90 Minutes Fights in Tight Spaces: ~2 Hours Persona 5 Royal: ~90 Minutes Final Fantasy VII Retrograde: ~1 Hour Citizen Sleeper: ~2 Hours Spiritfarer: ~3 Hours They improved it with software since sending the initial review units out so I imagine it can be further improved with updates. Again these numbers are at 15w (or 10w with Spiritfarer). 25w performance should only be used if you have a full battery and are 30 minutes or less away from your next charge. When using that mode, I really just do it plugged in. Final Thoughts Despite the caveats I’ve mentioned, I still really love the Asus ROG Ally, it’s my new best friend that I carry all around the house. I’m looking forward to traveling with it too since it’s so compact and lightweight compared to other PC handhelds. For me, battery life matters less as I am usually within reaching distance of a charger and being plugged in doesn’t bother me. At night in bed, I’m usually playing something chill like Citizen Sleeper or Spiritfarer so I’m not sweating battery life. The display is beautiful, although I only notice the 120hz refresh rate when in Windows or plugged in as most games in unplugged mode do not reach that fps. It’s an incredible device that does have a lot of trade-offs that I’m willing to work with by tweaking settings. If you’re ok with that and want a PC gaming handheld, this is the portable for you!

    This was the worst purchase ive made. I bought it to play Civ IV absimple game and it took hours tonload amd upon installation O received a graphics catd errr on a gaming pc. Lots of others apparently have a similar issue because twindows updates make the card unreliable. Horrible device and pointless purchase.

It is recommended to download and update the BIOS and firmware for system performance optimization.
