As a gamer, the ROG Ally is a beast in a handheld form. The 7" 120Hz FHD display is crisp and buttery smooth, making even fast-paced games like Apex Legends or Call of Duty look incredible on the go. The AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip packs serious power, easily running AAA titles at high settings without major hiccups. It feels like having a mini-PC in your hands. The Windows OS means you’re not stuck with mobile ports or limited app stores; you can play most your Steam, Epic, or Game Pass library. It also means more flexibility with mods and customizations, which is a huge plus for PC gamers. The ergonomics are surprisingly comfortable, even for extended play, and the controls are responsive. My only complaint is that the battery drains quickly when pushing it hard. I would recommend the dbrand Killswitch case as it can significantly improve the ergonomics of the device. Overall, if you’re into portable gaming but want the power and flexibility of a PC, the ROG Ally is a great option. If you plan on being mobile for an extended time, make sure to bring a portable charger with 20,000mAh capacity and a 100w or more to support fast charging output so you can use turbo mode.

This unit is so powerful for it’s size but because of all that power the battery doesn’t last. When you add a SiWiQU 20000mAh Magnetic Power Bank it makes ally is perfect! This handheld handles every AAA game that I have tried and with the new update the games can run at impressive fps! That’s the other thing I love about the Ally there has been constant improvements added!

Would have gone for a steam deck but after reading reviews of how I have to install this and that to play the game that I love which were mostly EA and Ubisoft games and requires the anti cheat software I decided to go with the rog Ally and let me tell you this didn’t disappoint one bit from running the game to other things it’s a machine that runs it all. Love its portability only downside would probably be battery but now that I have tweaked a bit I can go 3 hrs on AAA games without compromising on game quality ok or frame rate. Awesome stuff!

So far I love my ROG Ally, it’s a powerhouse of a portable gaming machine if you come in with reasonable expectations. Let’s get it out of the way, battery life is poor and the SD card reader might as well be removed from the product. Battery life is determined by your type of gaming and how much juice it needs to run so if you are playing triple a games at high frame rates/high resolution you are looking at about an hour before needing to plug in. SD card reader is a sore spot in the community where it eventually fails due to some sort of fault that apparently is due to thermal design. Mine is becoming increasingly slow through usage and I’m just going to upgrade the internal drive and bypass ever needing to worry about it failing. Gaming though is fantastic and the screen, weight, audio, and controls feel much better than my Steam Deck. Build quality feels on point and due to it being windows based, you can run everything with ease. Armory crate has been updated and the software is leaps and bounds better than when it first released

The Asus ROG Ally Extreme is a marvel of modern gaming technology. From the moment I unboxed this sleek device, I knew I was in for a treat. The 120Hz Full HD display is nothing short of stunning, bringing my favorite games to life with vivid colors and buttery-smooth motion. The Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor ensures that performance is top-notch, handling even the most demanding titles with ease. What truly sets the ROG Ally Extreme apart is its portability. Despite packing such power, it’s lighter than its competitors, making it the perfect companion for gaming on the go. The Windows 11 OS offers a familiar environment, and the Armoury Crate SE software adds a layer of customization that enhances the overall experience. While the battery life can be short during intense gaming sessions, it’s a small trade-off for the performance and quality you receive. Plus, with a few settings tweaks, you can optimize for longer playtimes. The occasional software hiccup is present, but Asus’ commitment to updates and fixes is reassuring. In conclusion, the Asus ROG Ally Extreme is a standout device that delivers a premium handheld gaming experience. It’s a testament to Asus’ innovation and dedication to gamers everywhere. If you’re looking for a powerful, portable gaming PC, the ROG Ally Extreme should be at the top of your list.

The Rog Ally is an exceptionally powerful device that can run a wide variety of games. Its ability to play Xbox Game Pass titles is a definite game-changer. Ergonomically designed, the device feels comfortable in the hands and is ideal for extended gaming sessions. The screen is both fast and responsive, offering great and immersive quality while gaming. However, there are a few drawbacks. The A, B, X, Y, and D-pad buttons feel too mushy for my liking, although this isn't a deal-breaker. The device also has a learning curve, particularly when it comes to adjusting the power levels for different games. If you're playing on the go, you'll need to get acquainted with these settings to maximize your gaming time and minimize the need for recharging. Another concern is the Micro SD card slot. Several users have reported issues with it, which makes me hesitant to use the feature for fear of damaging a card. Overall, I would highly recommend the Rog Ally. However, be advised that it's not a 'turn on and play' portable console. The benefits, in my opinion, outweigh the cons.

The screen is beautiful, it’s light weight, controls feels nice, plays games very smoothly. Been tons of improvements over the lifespan of the device and I couldn’t be happier. You will need a power bank due to battery life not being the best but the charging makes up for it and you get a boost for having it plugged in as well. I have it docked a lot of the times and have a bag for on the go. Since it runs Windows you can pretty much do anything on it. Windows will be Windows with its updates. I recommend reading up on optimizing windows to handheld vids. There are plenty. You can make it console like with playnite or even stream from your desktop with Moonlight and both are amazing experiences. I never bothered with the sd card since I installed a 2 Tb ssd. I don’t care about the rgb either and thankfully you can turn it off. Community is pretty nice about recommendations and help for issues that could occur. Overall a solid fun device that I play daily as I can pick up and put down quickly as I’m a dad. Saved gaming for a long time gamer.

In a saturated market, it is the best of its kind. Pros. It is durable. Great build quality. It plays every game. More power than a Steam deck. Windows. Cons. Gen 1 suffered from joystick issues, excessive heat near the top of the device and some software issues that are easy to fix. Windows.

Battery life could be better but overall it works really well. Games played: Hollow Knight, Palworld, Minecraft, Fortnite, Skyrim, Outer Worlds, and Mass Effect Legendary. All played as well as my main computer. The device came in clutch as I broke my ankles and couldn’t sit at my computer. If you want to game for an hour or two, it’s great but any longer and you might want to consider staying near an outlet.

I think this is a good device. I think if Asus stands behind it, it could be a great device. Right now on turbo mode you’ll get about an hour of battery life. Considering the power draw that’s expected. The screen quality is great but I find the build to be sub par to my Steam Deck. Still it’s worth buying if you’re a gamer but you also know your way around Windows and how to tweak game settings. Being on the battery I wish I could spend more time playing it but honestly if I want that I can shift the hertz down to 60 and lower the FPS and even turn off the joystick LED’s. I am wary of Asus standing behind this product should something go wrong considering the sort of support Valve provides to the Steam Deck. It is lighter than the Steam Deck and it certainly charges faster with the larger power battery. That being said if you use Steam on this device and it needs to be recharged, switch back to your Steam Deck. If you have your Steam Deck keep it because it’s good to keep a proven device until this one is proven or Asus makes another better model months after this one.

Let me start by saying, this is fantastic. Now a disclaimer, you will have to exercise your windows-fu. That's not a bad thing. It just means you'll increase your windows skill and level up. Expect this to be a PC device rather than a console device and you're golden. Anyway, I've been playing and testing it for the past week. I've ran a wide variety of games from 3d installed like horizon zero dawn to cloud game pass like TMNT shredders revenge to older engine like crysis 3 to mkb based guild wars 2 with a great deal of success. Not perfect out of the gate but that's PC gaming. I've used Excel and word which work flawlessly though i recommend pairing a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard as that's how those are primarily designed to work. Windows 11 is surprisingly decent for the experience. Not perfect nor groundbreaking but usable in this space. The armory crate is stellar. Steam big screen mode is stellar. Loading game pass version of no man's sky and having my Xbox saves right there is stellar. Battery life is flexible with the power controls. For the performance to power usage, this does a respectable job with the internal battery. Just bring a large external battery if you need longer play like you would for a laptop. Controls feel great and I've had no issues. Speakers and sound are amazing. Screen is great. Nice size to pixel density to distance. Being able to add an eGPU is a bright cherry on top. I highly recommend this for PC game lovers.

So, yes the device has a couple of quirks, but once you take a few minutes to optimize each game how you want, it is a fantastic device. Think about it, this is an unprecedented time to have the freedom of having an entire computer as a handheld. Yes, the Lenovo Legion Go will be coming out soon, but I am keeping this device. I love it and the Legion Go will only have slightly better RAM, a 1440-like 16:10 screen with 144 Hz in comparison to this 1080p 120 Hz. However, they will have the same graphics card and the games will run almost the same between the two. I play Halo Infinite (just disable the touchscreen to fix the issue), MW II 2022, BO II, MCC (slight problem with the game), and DBFZ (a mix of graphic-intensive and light workload games). Each of these games run amazingly for an on-the-go device once you figure out the best settings and that's coming from someone with a desktop with a 4070 Ti graphics card (high-end). It will be more difficult for games like these to run at that higher resolution in the Legion Go with it having the same graphics card as the Ally, so it sort of defeats the purpose, but that's just my opinion. All I want to get across is that this is a great device that provides an awesome experience with almost any game. It is absolutely worth it.

So far so good. Aside from some initial bugs the Asus Ally has met my expectations. It’s a PC first so setup is necessary. Armoury crate is simple enough to use. Graphics are what you would expect for a handheld PC. Performance is above a SteamDeck and about on par with a midrange PC. Streaming is easy enough from GamePass. PS Plus takes a bit more work to get up and running, but works well enough. Playing Diablo 4 I easily hit 60 plus fps on medium-high settings. The overall feel of the device is premium. The RGB is nice, I’d you’re into that. The thumb sticks are a bit light, but easy to adjust to. The screen is a solid size and for an LCD works very well and is bright enough in most situations. Battery life is a bit lacking if you are playing graphically intensive games so be prepared for 1 hour or less, but for me that’s fine or I just plug in and crank up to turbo mode and get even better performance. Your experience may vary based on your needs. I am a console gamer first, but this is a great addition to experience more games on the go as well as free up the TV for the family. My only real issue is the lack of an included stand. The one they have feels like an egg carton. It works, but for a premium device I’d expect more. A minor gripe as I don’t play through hdmi or the portable graphics card (too expensive).

This is my first PC used soley for gaming. So its not an exaggeration to say I went a little crazy getting a portable. But its been such an exciting purchase. I got it about a month so I had a ton of updates ready for me. I suspect my experience was boosted by that fact. I dont know if it was worse before but, I really like the Armory Crate. Its a very streamlined experience in my opinion. The system is a little unintuitive and can do things you didnt expect but I haven't had a problem yet while gaming. Ive played Spider-Man on it and its beatiful. The sound explodes from the speakers. Build quality feels really solid. The weight is just right. It doesnt feel as flimsy as a switch but it's not solid like a tank like the PS Vita was. My only word of warning to others not familiar with PC gaming who get this portable, lits of games have controller settings but even more don't! I learned ny leason after buying a small bundles on GOG. They were very inexpensive but I now have about a dozen games that are not compatible with not only the Ally but with any controller based set up. The good thing is I can always display to a monitor with a keyboard and mouse but this definitely does not give you an open license to buy every game ever made and then think there is a portable/controller setting to help you. Very happy with the money spent so far!

Overall, I really enjoy the Ally. My two things that kind of make it challenging is that the battery runs out fast on max settings (playing diablo 4 = 1 hour, Jedi Survivor = 1 hours, Sniper Elite 5 = 1 hour) and the hard drive space is terrible for the games that are coming out. Most game almost require anywhere from 60GB-100GB and with a hard drive of 512GB it just doesn't do it. Bought and install a 2TB hard drive will out a problem and that helped a lot. Also got a 1TB Scan Drive A2 gaming SD card and haven't had a problem with the overheating. This device is great for travel, went to Austria with it and it did everything I wanted for the 11 hour flight and the 4 hour train ride. I wish I had a laptop for a keyboard sometimes but then I realize I wanted this for its mobility which is way better than a laptop and take less space. I think that is better than the SteamDeck and has more opportunity for handling newer games.

I really love the ROG Ally Z1 Extreme (get the extreme, base model is not worth it), it plays amazingly, I get 60-70FPS on Starfield with all High Settings, I would absolutely recommend getting a USB-C extension module and make sure you get 100W charger for the USB-C extension bar, so that you can hook it up to a monitor, and use keyboard and mouse, etc. also I’d recommend getting the higher SSD chip bc SD cards dont compare to an onboard SSD, and there have been instances of temperatures ruining SD cards. Also, if you want to not be near an outlet while playing, you’ll need to use lower wattage modes (15,20W) otherwise your battery will drain quickly — especially in Turbo Mode. A good solution for overall performance and mobility is cloud gaming!! Nvidia GeForce Now works incredibly on it, and since it uses their 4090 GPUs, it plays all AAA games beautfiully (as long as you have good wifi) without draining power as fast due to the fact that cloud gaming doesn’t use the onboard GPU. Overall great power-packed device

Great device and I like it better than the Steam Deck. Pros: • Screen: 1080p and brighter than the SD. Colors look better but that could just be me • Controls: I like the buttons and triggers better on the Ally but the SD has better joysticks IMHO • Games: Yes it does play all games! All launchers work as expected. I could get the other launchers to work on SD but it was a little bit of work especially if you wanted to store the games on a micro SD card • Replacing parts: I replaced the SSD with a 2TB SSD and it took less than five minutes. From the ASUS teardown, it looks like replacing parts(especially the battery) looks very easy Cons: • Windows: This could be a pro or a con. You have to know Windows to get around this thing. There are 3 programs you have to run for updates. ArmouryCrate, MyAsus, and Windows Updates. A pain in the beginning but once you get used to it, its no big deal. Again, Windows knowledge goes a long way • Battery: Yes it is not good but worth it for the gaming experience I love this thing and once you get used to it, there is no comparison. Remember, the Steam Deck had issues(both hardware and software) when it first came out. So once you give Asus some time for updates, the Ally will get even more stable. The updates that have come out in the past week have already made a difference.

I love this thing. I immediately installed a 2TB SSD in it and went on to put a TON of AAA GamePass and Steaam and Epic games on there. It's gorgeous, it's powerful, the screen is fantastic, it charges back up FASTER THAN I NEED TO PLAY AGAIN in most cases!!! I take it to bed so often now; I could hook up a Series S in the bedroom but why bother buying another of those or moving a Series S from room to room? This thing is going to be so fun to get all the emulators and games running on ONE device too. Number one, it's fun. It's a bit 'much' in terms of price but it is ABSOLUTELY also a powerful Win 11 PC. I mean, I paid 450 dollars for a Win10 PC years back and that was a STEAL because it had an SSD and touchscreen. If you're on the fence, take a chace - it is ASUS not some unknown brand. Steam supports their products even better yet, but I don't think I'm going to regret this very much. If you follow gaming 'journalism' (YouTubers) , you'll see the warning signs of poor product support with well enough time to exit stage left anyway. I don't see that happening. I'm out on my deck tonight playing the crap out of my favorite games. I'll aways love the Switch for 1st party Nintendo games, but this thing will handle ALL the rest.
