Great handheld PC
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a fantastic little machine. If you're familiar with windows then set up is a breeze. It runs games perfectly and I've never had any issues personally. That being said, there is reports of issues with the SD card reader failing but I haven't experienced this. But that may be a deal breaker for some. Windows itself is not suited for handhelds but again, I haven't had any problems with navigating. It's a bit of a pain with the thumb sticks but it's usable. I say pick one up and give it a try.

ALLY is awesome!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ROG ally is an absolutely incredible machine. It’s mind boggling that I can play literally whatever I want, anywhere I go. It’s sleek, powerful, and the software is great. Keep in mind, this is not a Nintendo switch. When you power it in, it is literally just a windows PC with a controller layout. You will have to know how to install what you need, update everything, and in general be able to tinker just a little bit to get it where it is supposed to be. But after that, the fun begins. There was nothing that it couldn’t run, and it looked great the whole time, including great frame rates. Full disclosure, I did end up going with the legion go. The bigger screen was too good to pass up, and the versatility was just better, even if the software side was a little lacking compared to the ally.

My favorite Portable Console
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love my Ally. I use it as a portable gaming pc when I go to my girlfriend’s house I just hook it up to the tv, connect controllers using USB, and play using Steam Big Picture. I like using it for PS2 emulation and single player games. It runs the game “It takes two” that I play with my girlfriend really well. I also use it to play jack box games when at parties, I just connect a handheld keyboard and trackpad remote to control it from the couch.

Great device compromised by shoddy software.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am amazed at the gaming capabilities of this little device. Build construction is overall solid. The screen looks magnificent. The controls are fine. My main complaint is the use of Windows 11 as its operating system. It's simply not optimized for use without a mouse or keyboard. Asus tries to remedy that with the Armory Crate interaction layer and by turning the right stick into a mouse, but it only goes so far. There have been many times I have been tempted to install ChimeraOS. You will also want to increase the storage. 512 GB fills up very quickly, especially with the size of today's AAA games.

Asus rog is very competent
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Light, comfortable, plays indie games great and optimized AAA games well enough. Windows isn't the best OS and battery life can be brutal if you need high power output. I've never used steam deck but it's been great for me. Your steam, gog, epic games, etc work great. Recommend.

The handheld monster of your dreams
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ROG Ally is the system I have always dreamed of. This thing is a beast and can play most if not everything you can throw at it with some graphical compromises but, being a mobile battery powered device it's to be expected. Where this thing really shines though is emulators. It can play pretty much every console's library even switch! If you can though Id spend the extra cash on the X for its superior battery life and upgraded ram.

Top game on the go device you can get.
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The only issue that I have had is needing a bigger SSD. The ROG Ally is by far my favorite piece of tech that I own. Being able to take your PC games with you wherever you go is a must. I have played Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart, Cyberpunk 2077, BG3, Hitman 3, Balatro, Slay the Spire, and quite a few more. It has yet to have any issues for me. Even modding works with it really well.

ROG ally
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this as a replacement for my PC that broke down. the screen is beautiful and when gaming on the unit it can play all of my current titles on Steam. The issue is with docking it, there is a major latency between input and actual on-screen actions, and the windows that is unfortunately mixed in make it clunky. The battery is miserable, and setup of this machine is also weird ie:utilizing the gyro controls, utilizing the back buttons and mapping, and other things of the sort.

Great portable gaming system
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After using this for a month, I'm very impressed. The experience is somewhere between the console presentation of Steamdeck and straight Windows, but with the ability to play every Windows game on the device. Sturdy, nice display, surprisingly good sound, and portable power.

Not ready yet, lots and lots of bugs.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nice hardware, great screen, impressive sound, and the absolute worst setup experience ive ever had with a computer. The microscopic text certainly didnt help, and the stick cusor is horrid. Games sometimes would not load. Some did not have functioning controls, and some would simply load indefinitely. All that and this thing runs HOT. Add to that the terrible battery life and you can keep this thing, its not for me.

A step forward in the right direction
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought it and initially hated it and didn’t quite understand exactly what I was getting myself pretty tech savy. I was coming from a Nintendo switch and I came in expecting this to behave the same and when it didn’t that frustrated me. I had to remember that yes it plays games portably but it’s still a pc, so if your gonna buy one of these go into this with that in mind. It’s not gonna have stellar battery life and it’s gonna take some time to get used to. Once you get the hang of it tho it is a amazing piece of technology and I look forward to having it for years to come. It only got 4 stars because it’s not perfect but well worth the investment if your a gamer and if you don’t have a pc well now you do and a pretty powerful one at that.

Awesome handheld!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The device is exceptional. Has some bugs and some downfalls, like don’t buy it expecting to use an SD card, that’s not a very reliable way to store things. It’s easy enough to upgrade the SSD, other than that I’ve had 0 issues. I haven’t attempted to use a micro sd but I have no use for them. It runs every game I have awesome, COD, Diablo4, WOW, GTAV, RDR2, all run flawlessly, the temperature might get a little high if your playing out on the sun or something, but it’s manageable, surprisingly quiet and super comfortable to hold. Most of the issues it launched with have been corrected and have all turned out to be software issues between drivers and windows. Can’t recommend this device enough and I’m completely satisfied with my purchase.

ROG Ally Z1 Extreme is...good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It was powerful enough to run AAA games to certain limitations. The hardware design is not the best one, but could be worse. The 7'' display may feel too small for high-end games, unless you dock it to a TV or use VR glasses. It's great for indies and emulation, but the rounded D-Pad is not great for precision-needed 2D games, e.g. Hollow Knight, Silksong, Celeste, etc. I'd recommend a Steam Deck OLED or a more recent device.

I play this thing so often
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Whenever I want to play a game I play it on this device because I can bring it anywhere and anytime the SD card slot doesn't work which makes me a bit sad but Ive been thinking about upgrading the storage within the unit anyway as I've been wanting to you with electronics for quite some time. It plays everything seamlessly and has never crashed a game. I've played triple a tittles at medium settings and most others at high and never had any issues

Could have been 4.5 stars but just had a few issue
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It pains me to give this 3 stars, ideally it could be a 4.5, but I’m going to get into it here. I have had many gaming laptops, desktops and a steam deck. It seems clear to me that these are fairly cheaply made and software needs work. First the software and performance : the asus software and the easy access to helpful controls is very nice, and overall the interface and controls just on the desktop work great and I like how they have this device set up, especially after using a steam deck I was thinking it would be hard for a windows device to match or get close to the user friendly handheld interface of the steam deck, but I think this device did a great job. However, I am getting simple applications like steam, pcsx2 and even task manager freezing on me currently and it’s frustrating at times. It doesn’t happen enough for me to freak out and contact support yet, but it is noticeable and there is definitely something wrong in the software. That being said, when it’s not freezing, the performance is fantastic and running games off an sd card haven’t been a problem so far. Build quality and design: The materials don’t feel like anything special to me, actually feel like a cheaper plastic than the steam deck, especially the buttons. The sticks and buttons feel very cheap and disappointing, but they work fine. The thermals design seems to be very good and the device feels better in the hands than a steam deck, a little smaller, and doesn’t get as hot. The touch screen works well, but mine has a very small dead spot(or bleed spot?) that you can only see on a black screen, and it’s so small you would never know just glancing at it, but it’s still there…you get it. A huge complaint I have with the design is that the right stick is a little too low where it’s more under my thumb knuckle instead of my thumb pad if that makes sense. So you have an awkward angle to use it, It’s Not a deal breaker but worth mentioning. Another problem I have with the sticks is that they are in a dugout bay which is a dust trap if you work much with electronics, and to make it worse, if you move the stick all the way to one side you can just slightly see through the to the motherboard through the side, so the dust may get inside easier, but I may just be paranoid. Another small complaint is the usbc port not being by itself makes it harder to plug in in the dark. Conclusion: While I love the performance, look, and interface on this device, I had to dock it due to a manufacturing error and just cheaply made components, like of all things to cheap out on, why the buttons!? Overall though I would recommend it at the price if you don’t want to spend over a grand. Hopefully with firmware updates some of my issues will clear up. It is absolutely a pleasurable experience to use this device, when working properly, and I am very much enjoying it.

The Ultimate Gaming Handheld
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a Nintendo Switch and PS4 owner, ROG Ally is now my main gaming platform. The Ally can play nearly every Sony PC port between 40 and 60fps (which is sometimes better than the base PS4 performance), and the Steam, Epic Games, and Xbox libraries provide thousands of amazing games from the last 30 years at prices way lower than you'd find on any console, thanks to frequent sales. The screen is amazing in everything from dark rooms to broad daylight, and the fact that this is also a Windows computer allows for a ridiculous amount of versatility. Storage can fill up fast, but a 512gb micro SD card can cost as little as $26, and with the most recent update the card should last you the entire lifespan of your Ally. Cannot recommend this enough to people.
