Great picture quality and refresh rate, pretty much every game and emulator I have thrown at it has worked with little to no issues. Sure, the battery life is on the shorter side, but being able to get two to three hours of gaming out of it, depending on the game of course, is more than enough for someone who can only get an hour or two of gaming in before going about their day. For a newcomer to the PC handheld scene, it does the job pretty well.

Very portable and powerul thanks to amds upscalling. Love the option to go from 720p to 900p to 1080p, it makes more intense games playable when utilized. Battery kinda tanks but for the price you cant beat it.

This thing is amazing, I am able to play all my games on steam and on 1080p and everything looked crisp. I have the steamdeck but since steamdeck can only do 800p things look grainy so the ROG ally just looks better and is more powerful I love it!! The only drawback is the ergonomics are not as comfortable as the steamdeck and the battery.

This little device is a beast. its very nice as it acts as a portable PC as well to hook to the TV for on the go travel entertainment. e.g. great when you are at a hotel and want to hook this up to watch a movie or youtube. the build quality is study and good. the size is perfect, not as bulky as the steam deck.

Runs games incredibly well while plugged in and games graphics hold up when only on battery as well. I definitely agree with other reviews saying that the SD card slot is not ideal as it does get quite hot in that area. I would recommend buying an SSD upgrade but has space for plenty of games without. It is basically a tiny fully functioning windows PC

I really like this device .I have a steam deck also but im really enjoying the rog ally.If your not computer savvy just look up videos i know this can put some people off, this device is not plug and play. You have to tinker a bit with it.The screen looks great performance is good im hopping with some more updated we see a bit more performance out of it thats the problem with pc gaming we are always looking for more performance lol chasing that fps.

I was looking for a handheld that is a good competitor to the Steam Deck but not tied down to one gaming service. This is essentially a good handheld windows 11 gaming device that can be used for steam, Xbox, epic, etc. I am thrilled with it and its flexibility; wish battery life was a bit better but can’t have it all. It’s relatively light for the power and battery life that it comes with and those who dive in won’t be disapponted .

This has been a pleasure to use. I went ahead and got a new 1tb sabrent 2230 m.2 ssd in it, and ASUS's cloud recovery in the bios makes the reinstallation of windows very easy. The buttons are very satisfying to press? And i find the sticks light resistance comfortable, although i can see why many people complain about it. Basically a switch analog with a much taller stick so the resistance is reduced greatly due to the added leverage. The rgb rings around the stucks are also very nice and look great. The screen is also very color accurate, and was the main reason i got it over the steam deck. Its gorilla glass victis and has an anti glare treatment so a screen protector is optional, although i still installed one for peace of mind even though it negate the antiglare. The form factor fits my hands nicely, although im sure the larger grips of the steam deck are much more comfortable. Many people complain about windows and the headaches it brings, but i think the extra functionality it brings far out weighs it, although im just familiar with windows. The only downside for this device really is the multiple platforms that updates exist. You need to update within armoury crate, myASUS, and the windows update within settings. But once its all setup and ready, its a dream to use. Also the battery life leaves a lot to be desired but im usually near an outlet and have a 100w battery bank. Its a trade off for this much power. An annoyance is a lack of third party accessories like cases and grips and stuff like that. As far as performance goes, I get around 50 fps in cyberpunk at 720p and FSR enabled, and a smooth 60 in tekken, street fighter, nier automata, and many other games at 1080p. Once u have games playing, its a dream of device. Word of caution, the sd card reader is right on top of the heatsink. Many people have reported corrupted SD cards and inoperable readers as a result of use. The official state from asus is that its due to heat, but some have reported its still happening even after the bios update that adjusted fan curves to address the problem. I upgraded my ssd and plan on not using the sd card reader. A 1 tb ssd is cheaper than the fast sd cards ( the extreme slass cards are the only ones id recommend if u have to use sd cards ). This device has been great to use and ive been having a lot of fun with it. I hope this review helped.

Loving this device so far however I do have concerns with the hardware issues that are circulating, thankfully I don't have any of them so far. I had a steam deck and sold it a few days after and haven't missed it ever since. This device is more powerful, lighter, screen is better. They're so many things that are better than the SD. I don't have a gaming PC anymore so this is a must have for ppl wanting to get back into pc gaming or emulation.

This device is amazing. I have played every single game that i want from indie to AAA titles flawlessly. This is definitely a PC experience in a handheld. Do not think this is a console experience that is easy to navigate. It definitely needs tinkering but as a long time PC user its expected. As of now 7/22/23 it has a problem with the sd slot overheating and frying, to get around this i have installed a 1tb SSD and stayed away from the sd card slot. I would give it less stars if i ran into this problem but as of now i am completely happy with the device.

People will question between the Steam Deck and Asus Rog Ally. Easy to put it, a Steam Deck is a console and a Rog Ally is full windows machine. I'll admit if you're not use to efficiently optimizing the Rog Ally from windows bloatware(MS teams - running apps in task manager, knowing what drivers to get), you'll be frustrated. You'll need to put in the effort in it, to get the most out of it unlike the Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck. However, once you tinkered the Rog Ally the performance is amazing! I play a lot of single-player games. There are 3 modes - low, performance, & turbo. I always try to use low-power mode and try to get 60fps so I get longer battery life. Dark souls 3 60fps at 900p medium settings. Lies of P 55fps at 900p but in performance mode 120fps! Cyberpunk -all low settings - fsr2 turned on - 900p = 50fps. I usually don't use turbo mode because it sounds like a jet engine and it'll drain my battery but I can bet it'll get me more fps. Pros - Great specs! Z1 extreme is comparable to a GTX 1650/1060 or ps4. Has built-in AMD FSR and AMD RIS that can be used anywhere. Its pretty much making the image sharper and upscaling it. Why is this good? Because not all games used upscaling or image sharpening enhancement. However, if a game supports a better FSR like 2 and soon 3, definitely use that for best image and fps. You are the admin. Download whatever you want. Epic game store or xbox game pass. Download wii u emulators to play Zelda. Cons - People will either love and hate the feel of the Asus Rog. I think its trash. Holding it for awhile will numb my palms. Get a case from like Skull & Co. it will even the playing field with the Steam deck. Staying up to date with drivers or bios on community updates. It can be a hassle for many and at times these updates will take away fps. Pretty much do at your own risk or wait and see from the community. - Recommend RogAlly reddit. I have recency bias. I'll admit it and it's early for me to run into SD issues. I have a cheap 32gb sd card inserted with some PS2 roms. Let's see if it'll fry it.

I actually really love this system, compared to the steam deck where I could play pc games, modding the steam deck to get different apps and programs wasn’t something I was up for, so I’m glad I got this instead, it’s so much more easier, and the rgb lights, chiefs kiss!

I've never owned a gaming pc before, but I've always wanted to. I watched a couple reviews and noticed it was on sale, so I couldn't help myself. It blew me away with the speed and ease of use. I never buy myself anything nice, but I'm so happy I gave in and took the chance. I'm messing around on it every chance I get. The only downside I can find, would be the battery life. Luckily, I do most of my gaming at home so it isnt much of an issue because I can just plug it in (it even runs better when plugged in anyways). Overall, this has been an awesome gift for myself, not to mention the purchase even came with a couple gifts with the system (carrying case, game pass trial, and crunchy roll trial). Glad to finally be a part of the PC Gaming Community.

Works amazingly, this little thing is capable of delivering steady FPS while working in heat and on power. Went on a road trip recently and as you might know, you would get bored if you’re just a passenger so I took my ROG Ally! Thing kept me entertained for 2 hours before it died, delivered 60 FPS constantly with maybe one or two frame drops all while the sun from the window hitting it. I love it, and I feel like it would also be an amazing gift for a young gaming child that would love PC gaming without the commitment and added cost.

It’s a beautiful device with comfortable ergonomics, a gorgeous screen, and reasonable power given its size. The software is a little buggy at times and this can cause games to crash when opening or closing them, nothing that can’t be fixed by software updates. I own both the SteamDeck and the Ally and both get used, the Ally typically stays home and tethered to a power cord due to the battery life…it’s not great. The Ally excels when running at Turbo 30W and will use up the battery in an hour and a half. It’s a great product and I don’t regret my purchase.

I freaking love it! I have a steam deck and its a great handheld, but the Ally is superior in a lot of ways. The Ally's controls, power and weight are the main plus for me, but the only downside is the windows 11 bloat and slightly janky UI. Overall thought it's a fantastic purchase and I would personally recommend it over all the options if you want a great handheld PC at a decent price point.

fantastic product. works and performs just as advertised. only real downside is short battery but that is a known issue and sufficient for most gaming sessions. i not inly use this for games but also for work on the road as a semi laptop replacement. performs perfectly as a regular win 11 device as well. my only real complaint is this should include a 1tb or larger drive. the stanard drive is far to small and i was looking for an upgrade after a week of use.

Love how its basically a Windows 11 version of a Steamdeck. Works great as a handheld PC. Plays most games well and have slightly better hardware than the steamdeck. I love how lightweight it is and the feel in hand is slightly better than the steamdeck. The ROG armory crate software is a bit jank and needs Asus fixing, but it still runs fine and can still function. My device doesnt have the SD card issues others are reporting, but I also dont run my ally very hard either. Its worth a buy; especially if you enjoy the Steamdeck but want better hardware.

i was going to buy a steam deck, but have had great experience with asus gear over the years. the ally is no exception. plays all my games at medium settings and great frame rates. combines all the best of a console and a gaming pc in a small portable package. windows isn't the best interface for such a small device, but with a little patience you quickly get familiar with whats needed. a great gaming device.
