Its great for what it is! I primarily use it to stream my more powerful gaming pc and PS5 from the couch or bed. However, i can run most games natively albeit with some tweaking if I don't have an internet connection. I will say if you plan to only use the device to stream your gaming pc, do yourself a favor and get the non extreme version. Definitely a better version of the ps portal which is another reason I was even considering such a device.

It is still a surprisingly powerful device. It can run all older games without any compromise, newer games can run with higher fps with some graphic downgrades. It is amazing to be able to play PC games while not being tied to the desk. Navigating windows using a relatively small screen and touch controls sometimes is pretty cumbersome. Some ui elements sometimes do not display correctly or are beyond the screen limits. The main downside is battery life. It lasts a little over an hour when using full power of its hardware. You can get around 2-3 hours with reduced settings. This problem is solved with a good power bank, which can double the runtime of this device. Another issue is I guess you could call quality control. Right speaker has an intermittent issue of working at a reduced volume, which started happening from almost the day of the purchase. Software updates could not fix the problem. These devices also have problems with memory cards and card readers, since they fail at a high rate because of overheating due to poor placement. I discovered that my card reader did not work few months after the purchase, when I decided to expand the storage. Currently my ally is in service to address these two issues, hopefully it will come out fixed. Turnover time is up to 4 weeks, so keep that in mind.

Wonderful little handheld. Battery life isn't great (you'll see pretty much every other review mention this - just get a battery pack). Performance is great - sound quality is phenomenal and I'm an audiophile so I was blown away by it. Could use some tweaks to the menus - but great. I use mine for emulating and older modded games.

I love PC gaming, and this thing makes me a fan of handheld gaming. It's the best specially when I don't want to turn my PC or consoles on. I can sit in bed and enjoy my games. I can't stand the battery life. It's about 1 hour to 2 hours on one charge but that depends on the wattage you use. I personally use 15-25 off charger but usually I'm charging to get the full 30 wattage. This thing is a power house. It can handle almost any game I throw at it..... yes, even Cyberpunk 2077. I'll definitely recommend it to anyone on the fence about it.

I am not loyal to any brand of handheld. I had a steamdeck and also the Legion go. This is far superior. Its design is great, it’s the perfect weight for a handheld, the updates have finally made it easier to use, and it is easy to upgrade the hard drive. I love the screen and the vrr which is a must. I can play Elden ring at 48fps without sacrafising much detail. It may not be perfection but for playing games on the go, it has been the best experience. A must have for gamers. Well done Asus!

I pre-ordered this the second I could. The storage is abysmal at 512GB but you can upgrade the M.2 SSD or add you own supported microSD card. Expect to keep it plugged in most of the time if you only plan on using the "Turbo" 25W mode. The buttons don't feel cheap and it's not heavy. You can't feel the heat while holding it but wow it can get hot. The Ally definitely feels like it was made for people who already have a gaming rig.

First, I want to emphasize that the ASUS ROG Ally is a fantastic piece of hardware. Being able to play my full library of Xbox, Steam, Epic, EA, and Battle.net games on the go or in bed is a game changer. There is a known issue however with the SD card slot not being recognized or not working due to the fan location. That's where the reality sets in and the value starts to decline -- Support. The ASUS Support center is extremely difficult to navigate, some analysts are misinformed or dismissive, and the RMA process is complicated and lengthy. And of course, if it's beyond the first 30 days, Best Buy does not provide any solutions. Buyer beware of the pros and cons of this purchase.

The ally rog is a great product for being out and about or at home. The device is not too bit and light weight. The vibrant screen with 1080p, 144hrz, 60 fps make everything look clean. For anyone that is a beginner techie there will be a learning curve for this device. Also if you use YouTube for your source of information take it with a grain of salt. Not everyone have the same outlooks as you or me. So do your own research.

It's a awesome little device that makes playing pc games really convenient to pick up. Battery life seems to only last 1 percent a minute which personally is mybiggest gripe. The fried sd card issue is something that should have been problem solved before the product was released though.

I've had this since day 1, and if I reviewed it after the first 2 weeks, I'd give it a D. Today, I'd give it an A. It's really impressive how much better this has gotten since launch. Also, having just used the Legion Go, and then going back to this, it's impressive how good this feels and how much better it works. Really only thing I wish was that this had a 16:10 screen and that it was larger. Obviously I'd love an OLED as well, but really this screen is very very good for an LCD.

Very impressive for the price. This thing is a hand-held beast. I have had no issue running any games I've tried, and they've all run well. I also use this as my only desktop PC now in docked mode and it runs fantastic. The only reason I gave it 4 starts was I found it to be quite frustrating to setup. Out of the box it does not register either thumb stick as a mouse control until you manually go into settings and tell it to.

I. Love it! It’s basically a handheld gaming PC that runs Windows 11, so it’ll have its quirks when you try to get it all working in the beginning, but it’s pretty much smooth sailing afterwards. It’s not a gaming powerhouse, but that’s okay! I’m amazed at the graphics on such a portable device, and it’s super nice to hold. Battery life could be a bit better, but if you play lighter titles, it might last longer. Overall, I really like the ROG Ally :D

I'll start by saying I was a Steamdeck owner, I kept checking out the Rog Ally everytime I'd walk into my local Best Buy. The first thing I was sold on with the Rog Ally was the Asus Armoury Crate, basically its a application that lets you control all your gaming software from one place. Just one touch of a button and everything is nicely placed in one spot, also a big selling point for me was Xbox Gamepass could be installed (easily from the app store) yes you could install all these apps on Steamdeck but you would have to install Windows among other programs to make it work correctly. For most people this is impossible, Asus creating a Windows handheld has definitely made it easier from most customers to just pick up the Rog Ally and play. The system itself is very well made, the Ally feels like a expensive electronic. The button placement feels great, if your a person who loves the Xbox controller you'll be right at home with the Ally. The screen is beautiful, all games look phenomenal. The battery life is around 6 hours and that depends on your settings and how long you play. Asus offers a great dock so you can play you Ally on a big or small screen, you can also purchase a great Asus travel case that works great. Also the Rog Ally allows to expand the memory but overall most users should have no trouble having at least 8 games or more downloaded at a time, Asus also offers a great Cloud service so that opens up even more room for games. The end of the day I love my Rog Ally Extream, I would definitely pick it overall in the portable pc handheld world. My advice is to definitely purchase one, but if your still on the fence about it go to Best Buy and try the demo unit.

As the title says i love this unit a lot. At first i didnt like it due to the controller not working with some games or other games not wanting to download correctly. I updated the software and bios and 95% of all the problems went away. The battery life isnt the best but like every handheld its kinda expected , i carry a portable charger with me and its not an issue. Highly recommend since it can be used as both a PC and a handheld.

Very handy device to own. I use it frequently as a mobile computer with keyboard and mouse accessories. Gaming on this is convenient and sufficient in performance depending on your settings and the type of game played. I use remote streaming play features with steam on my desktop computer and it works well. The one negative feedback is that my devices and card reader stopped working like many others having experienced, there are no real solutions and warranty repair is your only option, however it could happen again and again. I decided to purchase a USB split dongle so I can use a portable SSD to store extra games while playing and charging.

Bought in 2024 and used for over a year before upgrading. Honestly even the newest handhelds arent much better. There is an issue with turbo mode but i beleive there was a firmware update that fixed it. Either way asus fixed my device quickly without any hassle and it was covered under warranty

I have been a long time playstaion player but i also have always played bethesda games so when Starfield came out i had to find a way to play. This machine runs it perfectly. My only complaint and I assume it would be with every handheld out is the battery life. Its under an hour for a game like Starfield or Farcry 5 and 6. Plugged in it gets a little warm but runs for as long as i wish to play without issue.. running windows 11 it will do basically anything you want a laptop to do

I picked up the console on launch day. I love the console, but there are a few issues. One, my SD card reader is not functioning. Two, I would love to dock the ally, but the only one which functions with the turbo tdp of 45w is Asus dock. That one is $65. Overall I've had fun playing pc games on the go. The screen is fantastic, wide color gambit. The speakers are some of the best I've heard on a hand held gaming console.

If you want to game on the go and play pretty much anything out there this is the way to go. It feels go in the hand, and it's well made. The screen is a good size and looks good even if it's not OLED.
