Customers are saying
Customers often highlight the ROG Ally X's overall performance, improved battery life, and ideal balance of portability and power as key strengths. The device also receives positive feedback for its screen quality, game compatibility, storage capacity, ample RAM, efficient heat dissipation, and acceptable noise levels. While the device is considered a bit heavy, the primary concern appears to be the user experience with the operating system.

Reliable Handheld
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Coming from a 4K Gaming PC set, this surprises me with what it can do, as a handheld PC. I like that I can play a variety of games with good battery performance on a 1080P display. It’s comfortable to hold and the back buttons are nice.

A much needed improvement
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Ally X, or in other words an Ally Extreme with the bugs ironed out (for the most part). With this being introduced into the lineup, there is little reason to get the Extreme and not pay a little extra to get the X. Of course, used market aside, on paper the Ally X is hands down the superior model and after playing with this for a week, it has proven to be quite sufficient as a handheld gaming PC. To start, a much needed upgrade is the battery, which is twice as big at 80Wh. With games running between 15W-25W in the silent profile, you can get just over 4 hours of gaming. With a manual profile to go as low as possible, I was able to get some lower profile indie games to run around 10W-13W. This means almost 7 hours of gaming on the go. Depending on the game, this is doable with decent FPS of at least 30+. If you were to bring a battery bank, you can get more. I estimated about 2000mAh of charge is needed to go to full when using a wattage meter. The 100W when charging is correct, but the included charger only goes up to 65W. As for handholding the device, is is quite comfortable. It does not feel too bulky, and the weight is not too bad either. While the air being exhausted from the top vents can feel hot, the places where you grip do not feel hot at all. Additionally, when using the silent profile, it does actually stay very quiet. Having two USB-C ports make this a much more friendly travel PC without needing to bring a dock so you can charge and plug in a peripheral. These are all welcome changes and updates the the Extreme, even if there is no significant changes to the internal hardware itself. Overall, Asus gives you a lot of customization when it comes to the software interfacing with the hardware, and it is good to see them allow you to set all kinds of different profiles so that you can get the best performance possible to the game you play. It is great to see that they have taking what was wrong with the original Ally, and improved on it with this model. Of course, there are still things that could be improved. Not at the fault of Asus, Windows is still not the best in terms of usability with a small touch screen. The keyboard feels in the way most of the time, and it really feels like you are fighting with switching between using Armory Crate and the Windows UI. The finger print sensor is not that great, it seems to be a miss more often than not. Other than these, there has not been much to complain about. Overall, this has been a pleasant device to bring along while traveling, and is good enough to take the pain away during longs flights. If Asus can continue to iterate on this model, there is a lot to look forward to for the next generation of Ally's.

Great product! When it runs...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Decent console when it is not bogged down by the horrible software support that is hit or miss by the manufacturer. Three different ways to update drivers and they constabtly interfere with eachother. Recently had to reinstall windows to fix an update error. But when it works, everything is peachy!

Asus Review
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far the device work well. It's used mainly for gaming. The only issue identified is the left trigger and left joy-stick / controller malfunctioned for a day. During gaming the controller stopped responding and the trigger behaved as if it were stuck in the down position. The device was rebooted after 6 hours of non-use and that seemed to do the trick.

Good enough, but not the best
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Battery life is garbage, but I assumed it would be. Navigating windows with the joystick sucks. Hopefully the xbox overlay will be better, but I honestly should've bought a steam deck instead.

Great device
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Big fan of this device. Windows is a little quirky and that's a complaint others say a lot, but once you're in a game no complaints. Great controls and way to tailor to whatever task.

Bluetooth All of a Suddenly Disappeared
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nice upgrade from the ASUS ROG ALLY (Z1 Extreme processor). The only problem I have is the Bluetooth stopped working twice now. The first time, I factory reset/restore Windows 11 to fix it, but it eventually quit on me. It just disappeared and doesn't show up in Device Management.

Powerful and Sleek
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The new Asus ROG Ally X will be a very popular handheld gaming device, and quite possibly the most popular, And with good reason. This latest redesign compared to the last generation Ally offers some visible changes, as well as other not so visible changes, but overall it is a big improvement. For starters, I wouldn’t call this the ROG Ally 2. Instead, it’s more of a 1.5, or an updated (and better) version. Some highlights are: Color: The first thing people will notice right out of the box is that it is black as opposed to the white Ally from last generation. On the surface, It looks pretty similar to the original in terms of visuals but that is where the similarities end. Screen: For the most part, it has the same 1080p 7inch 120Hz refresh rate screen. Nothing wrong with it, in fact, it actually looks very crispy, colorful and clear, just like before. Battery: 80Wh, what does this mean? It means the battery is twice the size compared to the last generation Ally, will obviously last you roughly twice as long. For such a mobile but powerful handheld gaming machine, this is huge. I mean, you can now go a hours without needing to plug it in somewhere. The more advanced the game, the less the battery will last, but some simpler games can go for most of the day. Operating system: Microsoft Windows 11. Just like a real PC, or Laptop. For better and worse. It’s better because Microsoft makes things fairly easy and customizable. But at the same time worse because it’s not as easy as downloading a game and start playing it like right away like you would a Switch. Ram: 24GB. More than enough to run any game out, up from 16GB from the last generation model. The extra 8GB’s are huge. Games run smoother, less loading times, and just overall better. Processor: AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme, a very good and capable processor. Im not an expert but I think its still the best handheld gaming processor there is. GPU: AMD Radeon RDNA 3 Architecture-based Graphics (4GB VRAM, 12 compute units) Can run any game out now no problems. Some of the more graphically taxing AAA games out might not run at full settings, but can be played nonetheless. Ergonomics: Some vents have been moved, the two buttons in the back are slightly smaller so that you don’t press the accidentally, some corners have been rounded off a little better for a more comfortable grip, everything about this Ally X feels like it was years in the making and Asus got a lot of things right. It also runs cooler than before. Misc: I mostly get my games with the Xbox Game Pass as I already have an Xbox Series X as well and thats just what im used to. Lots of great games to choose from and the Xbox app makes it really easy to get started. There’s so much going on with this device that my review would go on and on, so I’m just gonna keep it a little short. All the connections you need are all here. USB-C for example. Pretty good sounding speakers. Fingerprint readers for security. RGB lights that light up your device. All the buttons you could possibly need.
