Customers are saying
Customers often highlight the ROG Ally X's overall performance, improved battery life, and ideal balance of portability and power as key strengths. The device also receives positive feedback for its screen quality, game compatibility, storage capacity, ample RAM, efficient heat dissipation, and acceptable noise levels. While the device is considered a bit heavy, the primary concern appears to be the user experience with the operating system.

The good / the ugly.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will provide a long reason why I am leaving this review but a short version as well. Short Version: This serves to a very specific audience, there is not much that can be this in the form of having basically a mini PC always on the go and being able to play light games. If your travelling frequently its a great purchase) Otherwise I'd pass. For how much this thing costs I would encourage to just save a little more money and buy a entry level gaming laptop, it would have a lot better performance and personal use. Long Version. Truthfully with this being the new rendition of the previous generation, I'd figure this would have a really large jump in performance. I played about 5-10 games on it including Expedition 33, oblivion, and rematched. Although with it having a very decent battery for what the device is and the fact that it has enough I/O to be able to connect a keyboard and mouse or to connect it to a monitor with an adapter (not included) its a fantastic mini pc that you can bring with you on the go. For this being targeted as a "gaming handheld" its very short of that title. Most games even with the lowest settings barely reached 60fps which is more than playable but for a display that is 120hz I don't ever see that being reached in any game, on the base windows operating system sure but anything pass that I doubt it. - Awesome mini on the go PC. - Decent battery life - Very optimally cooled - Really good ergonomics even with big hands If you are intending on getting a handled that you can play games on the go, I encourage getting a Switch or a Switch 2 for the cost to performance its nearly unbeatable.

The only gaming device you need
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this thing! Ive had it for a couple of weeks now and it has completely changed the way I game. I can now play full AAA games from anywhere: waiting in the car for my wife? BAM! Sitting on the couch and have a few mintues? BOOM! Nothing to do at work? KAPOWIE! It plays my xbox PC games, my Playstation PC games, and Ive heard there is a way to do Nintendo Roms but havent tried it yet The screen looks great and the battery will run for a few hours without even needing to plug in. I recommend a 10ft 100w usbc cable and a 100w charger plug and you can play while you charge. (It comes with a 65w which will totally work but 100w will get you charged faster if you even care) If you want to get really crazy you could get an eGPU and dock this like a desktop or a game console and then sell all of your other electronics! I highly recommend this!

Fantastic system and the best around in 2025
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What a fantastic gaming handheld! I have a switch oled and and steam deck oled too. The Ally X is my favorite. It has the best performance, amazing build and a beautiful screen. It’s very customizable, as you can use windows or bazzite or steam os and it’s easy to expand storage. I would prefer if the screen was OLED for sure, but at 1080p 120hz VRR and HDR games actually look better on the Ally X than those systems in most scenarios (very dark scenes are the exception where OLED just shines). I highly recommend and I look forward the Asus next iteration.

Best Handheld I’ve owned.
|Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been using the ROG Ally X, and it has been an excellent handheld gaming experience overall. Performance is impressive for its size, handling modern games smoothly with solid frame rates and quick load times. The device feels fast and responsive, whether I’m gaming, navigating Windows, or multitasking on the go. The display is sharp, vibrant, and makes games look great, especially on a handheld this compact. Battery life is a noticeable improvement, giving me longer play sessions without constantly needing to recharge. The build quality feels sturdy and premium, and the ergonomics make it comfortable to hold for extended periods. Cooling is also well-managed, keeping the device from getting too hot or noisy during longer sessions. Overall, the ROG Ally X is a powerful and portable gaming device that I’d highly recommend to anyone looking for a high-performance handheld.

Good product. Windows still sucks on handhelds.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I travel a lot for work and being able to play my PC games ok the go is amazing. Excellent battery life. Can play black ops 6 for 2 hours with out a charge and the plugged in experience enabling turbo mode is excellent. Windows on handhelds still sucks, but once the game is running, the overall gaming experience is fun.

Great entry handheld
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgraded from a steam deck. I like having the better battery and more powerful processor. It is a little heavier but well worth it. The usb 4 is great for running an external dock to make it usable as a main pc. Only downside is it is an asus product. I do wish that the screen was 8” and the grips were angled out because I find it uncomfortable to hold an anything other than one position after a while.

Hands down best handheld
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has been a game changer. I still typically prefer my gaming pc over this due to its just more powerful. It does much higher resolution at much better frames per second. That being said this has its areas it shines. First and foremost its mobile. You can pack it up and take it anywhere. The battery life even though this one is larger than its predecesor still dosen't last long when palying AAA games. This gets used more for me when i don't feel like sitting at my desk on the desktop, and would rather lay in bed with the wife watching tv and still get some gaming in. The storage was still a little lack luster so i did upgrade it to 2TB.

Great handheld
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great mini PC. I wanted to ideally wait a few more years on mini PC's until the next generation of chips come out but after getting a great deal I gotta say I'm impressed. It's obviously not a great gaming experience for newer AAA titles, but I've been playing a ton of sim games and older AAA titles on here flawlessly in handheld mode. When I'm home from work I can dock it to my TV and continue to play or just use it as a PC. Great little screen on this thing and great feeling controls. Playing City Skylines 2 on Turbo mode I get about 1.5 hours handheld which hasn't been too bad for me.

Without Windows its Peak
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In its default configuration with Win11 this device is painful to use. Replaced Win11 with SteamOS and encountered some issues. Moved to Bazzite and this handheld has been working spectacularly. The screen could be more color accurate and blacks a bit deeper, but its fine. Battery life is GREAT. The Z1E processor is competant and I can run even latest AAA games a reasonable quality settings at playable to good framerates. If this had a better screen it would be the best option on the market. If you care about battery life it IS the best option on the market.

The Best console/pc portable
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ASUS ROG Ally X is a powerful handheld that feels like a real gaming PC in your hands. The upgraded battery and improved controls make it much more practical than the original Ally, while performance with modern games is excellent. It’s not cheap, but for gamers who want portability and power, it’s a great choice.

Alright for the most part
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Honestly hardware wise, it is a sound and perfectly good portable computer. It isn't to hard to use, though you do find yourself going through a ton of windows since it is a windows computer made compact. The times I've used it it worked very well, but honestly haven't gotten too much use myself. It's nice to have the option to upgrade it at the store, and if you are looking for a windows substitute for the Steam Deck I would definitely recommend it. Overall works like a steam deck with the added benefit of having windows os, so works like a computer. I did have some issues with some games but the touch screen helps with most things.

So close to being great!
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ROG Ally X easily offers the best performance of any handheld I’ve used. The additional RAM and increased battery capacity are great upgrades that noticeably improve the overall experience. That said, navigating Windows without a built-in trackpad is incredibly frustrating. While the performance is top-tier, the lack of a trackpad made daily use cumbersome enough that I ultimately had to return it. For the price, it’s also disappointing that a protective case isn’t included—something I’ve come to expect from competitors like the Steam Deck and Legion Go. If ASUS adds a trackpad in the next iteration, this could truly be the perfect device. As it stands now, I liked it—but I can’t confidently recommend it.

Best PC Gaming Handheld
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using this for a few months now. I have used an original Ally, a Steam Deck, and a Steam Deck OLED. The Steam Deck OLED has a prettier screen but that's it. Every other aspect is better. The compatibility with software since it runs Windows, the performance is better than Steam Deck, the ports, the cooling. I have yet to have a better handheld gaming experience. Is it expensive? Yes, 100%. But if you want the best PC handheld money can buy, this is it.

Get the Ally X!!!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you have a tighter budget and you’re looking for something to game on, you need to invest in the Ally X. I set mine up with a docking station that connects the Ally to a PC monitor, as well as a USB keyboard and wireless mouse. Excellent performance, a surprisingly generous battery life for gaming on the go, and honestly this is my most favorite tech purchase so far. I am thoroughly impressed with my FPS. (70+)

Best Pc handheld out
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my 3rd PC handheld overall and it has the longest battery, which can last me over 5 hours on games and at least 2 1/2 on AAA games. It can handle pretty much anything you throw it at.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best handheld gaming so far! If you want mobility and have fun on the go, this unit is the one to get. The battery life is great and the viewing in sunlight is easy to see. The first initial setup is a challenge, but once you have it set, all things come to life when playing intense games on this unit.

ASUS ROG ALLY EXTREME REVIEW
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.SImply an amazing little product. Plays games like The First Descendant and Warframe great off of a WiFi connection and plays other like SKyrim, Fallout IV, etc to perfection. It does struggle with newer titles, however due to the extensive library of thousands of titles and the consumer appeal of a small windows 11 machine and I would rate this above any current handheld hands down. I have literally helped my wife with her homework while this was docked on the TV mode. Excellent buy, as a laptop with similiar features will cost just as much and doesnt allow the portability.
