I’ve been looking at a handheld for many months and I love this product. It gives me exactly what I need from steam deck to EA games, etc. I only use it as a gaming system, but I been told if you can use it as a computer as well too. My only gripe about it is I don’t have a keyboard so using a controller for docking purposes can be a little troublesome, but I figured that out it was perfectly fine

Had the original Z1 Extreme and the is a MARKED improvement. Feels better to hold, battery is much better imo, and getting 1TB SSD to start vs 512GB is awesome. Be advised: the X uses a 2280 SSD instead of the 2230 so make sure you're getting the correct one if you plan to expand

It's runs everything I want. New games, old games, Office, programming tools. It's got plenty of RAM and a micro SD slot for data. The controls are comfortable and really customizable. The battery is good, better than I hoped.

I was using the steamdeck for around 2 years and loved it. Only thing I didn't like was not being able to easily install certain games (STALKER GAMMA AND SP TARKOV). I upgraded to the Ally X and its simply just a handheld Windows gaming machine. It has no problem running the above games, as well as other high-end games. Hooking it up to a dock pretty much just makes it a desktop at that point. I have Ableton installed, and it runs well. Battery life is OK depending on graphics settings and resolution, so be aware. Other than that, it's a solid 9/10 for me.

TLDR; Minus one star for ergonomics and not having at least one trackpad, otherwise fantastic! Upgraded from a Steam Deck lcd. While I prefer the ergonomics and button layout with trackpads that the Steam Deck has, the hardware in the RoG ally x is just so much better. I immediately replaced the windows os with Bazzite OS and it feels just like a Steam Deck with more horsepower and a better screen and resolution. Obviously there are higher end handhelds one on the market but as far as what you are paying for I think the value is pretty good on the RoG ally X. I highly recommend this if you don’t want to spend $1000+ for something more bleeding edge. If you have the patience, there will be a SteamOS version sometime in the next few months or you could just install Bazzite if you don’t want to deal with how bad windows is on handheld devices.

Solid unit all around. Great for gamiing on the go, strong battery life. No complaints, very satisfied with the purchase.

I had a Steam Deck before and I enjoyed it. The Ally X provides more power, better battery life, and Windows. I enjoy having windows for easier use when playing non-Steam games, but the console-like experience on the Steam Deck is unmatched. Overall, it is a great handheld PC that I have been able to play most of the games I want to.

I’m a huge handheld gamer and this is a game changer. So powerful for its size and portability. I’m amazed with how this can run modern triple a games without a struggle. I grew up playing on a game boy and oh how times have changed. Wish this came out when I was a boy. This is a must for any person who considers themself a gamer

This thing is a game changer for someone like me. I purchased this when I was assigned to an estate security detail and had to stay in my vehicle for 12hr shifts. Very difficult to keep your mind occupied working like that. So I bought this to have a way to play stuff I already owned while dipping my toes into the handheld PC world. This thing IMO paid for itself the first day I had it. I still use it every single week for 12-24hrs. The battery has consistently charged and last between 2-6hrs depending on what you’re playing and how bright, loud, etc. This device really lets you tone tune your gaming experience, as a 35yr old lifelong console gamer I’ve been very pleasantly surprised by the capabilities of it especially considering its compact size. I could go on and on about how much I love this thing but so far the tech support and smooth playability of this beast is 100% worth the price tag. Highly highly recommend if you’re on the fence about it. Buy once cry once and get the 1TB. You’ll be glad you did.

The ROG Ally X is an incredibly powerful device by the standards of something you can hold in your hands. If all you are seeking in a handheld console is performance, this is the console for you. However, if you are looking for the best overall experience, I would not recommend this. Microsoft's operating system on this device is incredibly frustrating. It just simply was not made to work with a device such as this. It can be used, but it is intensely clunky. If this device has a native OS - similar to that of the Steam Deck - I would be much more willing to recommend this over the Steam Deck. Reviewers of this device have made this same criticism many times, and I now understand why. There is also the issue of price. Although this is more powerful than a Steam Deck, it is substantially more expensive than a Steam Deck. This is especially frustrating when you realize how cheap the buttons and triggers feel. At $800, I find the price hard to justify.

I am very happy with my rog ally x. Runs all my aaa titles with no problem. Software works good, it just works good! I had a aya neo geek and im way happy with the rog ally x. Its everything i wished the aya geek was. Biggest battery of all gaming handheld computers.

I really love this machine. Im able tl play xbox games and steam games on it. It runs smoothly, 4 hours of play, good sound, good fps.

I had a steam deck and i loved it. This device allows me to play the main games I play regularly as it uses windows. Set up is a lot as it is a windows computer but this thing is a beast! Love it. Easy to change settings, runs AAA games great on the go. Highly recommend.

I was on the fence for a long time looking at all the competition out there. I wish I'd bought the Ally X sooner. It's amazing for retro gaming. I've been playing it every day for the last month. I haven't even started in on my modern Steam game library. Everything up to PS3 runs flawlessly. I did purchase a 1Tb SD card, Bluetooth folding keyboard/mouse, Dbrand travel case and Tomtoc bag, so budget for those. I purchased a 4Tb NVME drive but I haven't used all my storage yet so I haven't installed it. I still need to buy a USB C to HDMI so I can try casting to a big screen. Emulation Station is an amazing UI. It did take a couple hours to setup retro gaming but now it runs flawlessly. Lots of googling gets you through it.

I originally had the steamdeck and it was fun and easy to use. But i couldnt play my more beefy games. When i got this it was a game changer. Play any game i had in any library. If you have any familiarity with using a windows computer this should be no problem at all. Plus i can play stuff like starfield in the car or at work!!

I was considering a mini gaming laptop but they're very pricey for the specs you need these days. I then considered the Asus ROG Ally or a Steam Deck and the bottom line was I could play more games on the ROG Ally and install non-gaming apps because it runs on Microsoft Windows. The ROG Ally is a bit on the heavy side for long periods of gaming. It doesn't have a built-in kickstand so I suggest getting one and then pairing your favorite controller. The controllers aren't that good for normal navigating on the Windows screen. The touch screen is very responsive but so small that finger navigating isn't as smooth as I'd like. It's like buying a mini gaming laptop without the higher price so well worth buying, IMO.

This product is amazing for traveling! It works great for gaming, and I can even use it for personal stuff since it’s a full PC. The Best Buy team was super helpful and gave me great advice on what I needed. I highly recommend this product to anyone!

Highly recommend this if you want to enjoy more games that are currently in your backlog. This handheld is perfect for a lot of games that tend to get put aside. I usually enjoy higher demand games and 1st party blockbuster titles. With this handheld I enjoy time on the couch, stay closer to the family and find new favorite games I never would have pulled up on my pc or PlayStation or Xbox etc
