Everything with this was relatively good except the on button was so hard to activate it would seem as if it wouldn't turn on for 3 minutes or more at some points. It just needed a hard, firm pushing to turn on.

So far, so good. Got this for a trip but it's a bit heavy so I'm more likely to take a tablet instead. Touchpad is a bit wonky but I'm hoping it may need to "break in" a bit.

The service I received at Best Buy was extremely good. I purchased a computer with warranty for my grandson and it was damaged and Best Buy replaced with a new one. No problems at all.

The Acer Chromebook 311 hits a lot of the right notes of what I expect from a Chromebook. Compact, relatively light at 2.45lbs, charges from USB-C (so I don’t need to track a proprietary connector), and has just the right amount of performance where I never felt like there was an issue due to the hardware. Yes, its running on a Celeron processor with integrated graphics, but for the stuff Chromebooks are generally being used for in our home (kids activities, light web browsing, job applications on the couch, and online shopping), it did pretty well. The Chromebook is finished in what I’ll describe as two tone color scheme. The exterior has a silver finish while the screen bezel and keyboard are black. The whole thing is plastic and feels sturdy enough to hold up to children though the color scheme does try to give it a more metallic look which makes it looks a bit more premium than the device really is. As mentioned, the Chromebook does well performance wise. It handled 10+ tabs and a couple open apps without issue. For a couple things, it did seem like the tabs had been put to “sleep” when I returned, but otherwise things started back up quickly. It didn’t max out Wi-Fi connection speeds on my home network, but did well enough that it would have no problem streaming HD video. The screen resolution of 1366 x 768 is ok, not full HD but enough to hit 720p which works out well on an 11 inch screen. There is a noticeable difference in color temperature versus a TV or monitor or premium laptop playing the same content which can make things feel a bit off. I suspect there must be some calibration setting for the screen but I was not able to find one. Where I had disappointment relative to my expectations for a Chromebook are with the webcam (720p yes but still poor performance even in good lighting) and the storage (32GB which from the perspective of 2002 seems like a lot but some games eat up a significant chunk of that). So unless you’re intending this to be simply a web only device, you may find yourself quickly running out of space as you load up apps. Don’t be fooled by the microSD support - ChromeOS can’t use it to expand its internal storage unless you’re in developer mode. Battery life is decent. Not the 10 hours that’s it’s rated but definitely over 6 which is plenty for my use case. As I mentioned, USB-C charging is a plus. It comes with a 45W charger but will charge from the 18W cell phone chargers I have scattered throughout the house. But that it uses USB-C at all means pretty much all the USB-C chargers I have, including those for our 3 other Chromebooks, can charge this device and there’s no need to arbitrate who has who’s charger or keep track of similar looking but slightly different barrel tip adapters. In all, I rate this 3 stars. It really is middle of the road. Some things well and looks good, some disappointments that narrow it’s use case. But for some who know exactly the features they want and don’t really intend to do much else, this may well be a perfect fit.

I would give a stormy 4.5, as some of that apps on it just don’t work, but it I do like it. Also, the touch screen setting doesn’t work.
