I couldn't figure out how to activate the camera on my HP Envy computer. The Geek squad didn't know that there was an off switch. The told me to call microsoft. They didn't know either. Neither did the hp help line. I asked google and in the 8th answer down someone mentioned the off switch, which is tiny and can easily be switched off inadvertently.
