It's hard to understand how to use and work this. I saw the geek squad to see if they could help me understand how to use the chromebook and they didn't know anything about the chrome. So I'm back to square one. I only bought this for school since that's what they use but I'm very disappointed in this purchase.

Way too many issues , purchased 2 for my kids for Christmas and from the get go had issues with one that I had to return and exchanged for a new 1 , 14 months later Now I have a black screen that I tried to reset it etc.... watched tons of videos online to try to fix it but no luck and out of warranty. Not buying another HP Chromebook again.

Not sure of where some of the criticism comes from

First off, this review is for Model 14-CA061DX (with the touch screen). It seems that some reviews for similar models get mixed up. I haven't had the Chromebook very long but I'm not seeing the same main issues others have stated. Some complaints don't seem to be related to the product's functionality either. So to get to it: 1) Operating System: This is not Windows. Don't expect it to act like Windows or Microsoft products running the same on the laptop. Word works fine. There is a learning curve if you have never used a Chromebook. 2) Printing: I get the frustration but it works perfectly IF you have a Google Cloud Print Ready printer. I'm familiar with Chromebooks as my wife has one and we ended up buying a new printer. Our old Brother laser was awesome but also was 7-8 years old and it was not compatible with Chrome OS. Overall the "classic" printers are very rough if not incapable to connect to from Chrome. Check to see if your older printer works with Chrome before you buy. 3) Apps: Zero issues with running any apps. Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, Amazon Prime flicks, etc. Everything runs fine. I suspect some issues being more of your wireless network if you're getting flickering (not to rule out a bad screen though). We get blurred pictures or lines on all devices occasionally as we stream everything. I do wish we could connect via Ethernet when at my desk all day. 4) Keyboard: Well I'm used to a cheap keyboard as I'm still using an Acer Aspire One (6 years old). Time will tell with the HP Chromebook but it seems sturdy enough. If the cursor "just randomly moves" your palm may be coming in contact with the mouse pad. You can disable that and use a wireless mouse. No Delete or Caps Lock key is weird to get used to. 5) Battery: This one I'll come back to in a couple months to see how it goes. The way I read some of the complaints almost sounds like the reviewers got a refurbished laptop and that can be problematic. There's a reason a laptop got returned and chances are it can't be good. That said one thing that really irked me with the sales person is when he tried to sell me on the extended warranty. He kept pushing that the battery could fail in less than a year. I didn't buy his sales pitch but was more remarkable is he said that new batteries could cost up to $300. A quick search online and I didn't find an HP Chromebook battery more than $99. Most are $39-69. If you're not comfortable changing a battery then the warranty might be worth it to you. Other than that: * Not having an HDMI port is a little weird but I didn't use mine much except when traveling. I'd connect my laptop to a hotel TV to watch a movie. * I wasn't looking for a touch screen because I'm not a fan of fingerprints all over the screen and this one shows them easily. * The screen looks fine and I like the size. I was originally going to get an 11 but happy I got the 14. * Getting 32 GB drive was a must. I will be adding a Micro SD as well. Overall, for $180 I'll be happy with it as long as the battery lasts longer than a year ;-)

I wanted to try a Chromebook and I initially enjoyed it until a few months after my return window it started to freeze on me. It "cleared up" by blanking out and coming back when I thought it would freeze and I thought maybe either a Webview or Chrome OS update would work the "bug" out but it's back again freezing when I use Chrome (which the system is centered around!) and it's taken me at least three tries to write this review. I had to use the text editor to write this because writing in Chrome it would freeze before I get to post this. So I'm copying and pasting. I'm not sure if it's a Chrome issue or an HP issue or just this laptop but it's not usable. I'd say skip it for something else.

After less than two weeks with no damage or reason, our chrome book would not turn on. After another horrible customer service experience at Best Buy it was exchanged. Here’s hoping this one makes it through the new year.
