It could've been a 5 star, here's the pro's: 17" HD but not 1080p LED screen, HDMI out, DVD drive, webcam, USB 3.1 ports, 1 USB 2.0, 8GB DDR4, light, long battery life, SD card reader, 10/100/1000 LAN. Cons: Tons of updates due to it being loaded with an upgraded version of Windows 10. Too much "bloatware". After plugging it in the large but super slow 1TB hard drive did many updates, removed all the "bloatware" in about 6 hours. No joke & I do this for a living. That hard drive holds back the i5 in a huge way. So adding a Samsung 500GB SSD to the purchase was worth it. After cloning the completely updated laptop, it boots fully in 10 seconds or so. No joke. Poor WiFi reception/speed due to the limited chip. Has a max of 70 or so mb/s on WiFi. Wired you get the full gig. An adapter got me 144. Other thoughts: For those who want a big screen, light weight for the size, & an optical drive, this is a good way to go. I probably would have went 5 stars had it been "turn key". One shouldn't buy it unless they have hours of patience. They do offer a free set up via Geek squad, but that email came 2 days later. Do buy an SSD like the Samsung or PNY brands to get the best speed & don't need 1TB on a laptop. I would add another 8GB RAM to make it dual channel or upgrade both sticks. A 7th Generation i5 is nice but without the SSD, all that speed is held back. Weak WiFi on a laptop close to the $500 mark is unacceptable. 1080p would've been nice. But not mine anyway, was a gift & they are pleased.

My daughter loves it. Huge screen, great processor, large enough hard drive space for her college work. Really great deal - especially if you can get it on sale like we did!

Great bang for the buck. Great for general use and light graphics and games. It doesn't have a gaming video card but does a decent job with light graphics and some gaming.

I was looking for a good laptop at a reasonable price. This one was perfect for me. I like the bigger screen.

Bought for my mother to enjoy her movies at work. Large screen that has a DVD player and I5 processor. Done

Everything I expected from HP works and performs as well or better than previous HP computers and laptops.

I work from home and a big screen, 10 key numbers, and the light weight of my computer is the way to go.

I love this computer was super easy to set up and runs like a dream. Processing speed is awesome, and jumping from page to page is fast and loading time is instant.

Have had for about two months. No problems and content with purchase. Great buy for the price on sale.

We are pleased with our new laptop except for Window 10. But that has nothing to do with the item.

Good laptop for money. HD a little noisy (clicking sounds). Fast computer and I like 17” screen.

I recently purchased the HP Laptop 17-BS011DX and have been very pleased with this product. The keyboard has a slightly larger footprint than my previous 13" laptop, but so far I have adjusted to it quite well. Transitioning from Windows 7 to Windows 10 has been relatively easy. Used my thumb drives to download documents and pictures easily. So glad I had backup when my previous laptop met its expiration date and died. Websites load quickly and I'm thrilled. So far I have found no issues to complain about. My previous laptops were Toshibas, but I'm liking this HP a lot!

Handles basic tasks well. Big screen for an affordable price.

Bought this laptop for my son starting college. Good price, good speed, has what he needs for school. Did have one problem where a update installed automatically but didn't finish and we had to take in for reset but they were great about it and getting it back and running.

We compared this HP laptop to Dell, and it stacked up nicely. The pricing beat the others during their holiday special, so that clinched the deal.

For being my first laptop I must say it has performed flawlessly... From the initial start up to this day it has been nothing less than perfect.

This computer does just about everything. It's fast and has plenty of memory. Not a big gaming computer but for everything else it is perfect

Excellent screen size for those of us a little older. Easy to read and work with.

This laptop has a nice large screen with 10 key pad, and it starts us quickly, and shuts down quickly. It works well with my internet.

Really appreciated the set up by the Geek Squad and the people I dealt with there. Love the computer and the vastly increased speed.
