    Extended warranties, pros and cons

    We purchased this extended warranty because of a past experience. We purchased a Sony DLP set in 2007 from Best Buy and took the extended warranty. One week before the extension expired they had to replace the entire video engine. The parts alone were $1,500 and I don't recall the labor but it wasn't inexpensive. We were covered (I don't recall if there was a small service fee or not) and saved 6 to 8 times more than the cost of the warranty. Some say if nothing goes wrong in the first 90 days with electronics nothing will go wrong for many years. Well that's true in many cases and in other cases such as ours we have seen it's not true. You can look at this as insurance and weigh the annual cost of the warranty against the risk that nothing will go wrong. However, consider the fact that when something goes wrong with high tech electronics, especially in large sets, repairs can be rather expensive. It's a personal decision and also depends on whether you have the money or desire to pay up front. It worked for us in the past at least.

    Almost 2 years ago, I purchased a 65" Sharp Roku TV from Best Buy. I'd never purchased an extended warranty before, but this time I did and now I'm glad. About a month before the warranty expired, pale streaks started showing up on my screen. I called Best Buy and they sent a technician out. The panel was going bad and they couldn't get a replacement, nor was the TV still offered. The technician gave me paperwork and told me to take it to my local store. Sure enough, they took care of me! I picked a new TV, paid just the difference in cost from the original, and a week later the new TV was delivered and the old one taken away. And yes, I bought the extended warranty for the new one.

    I mean its honestly worth the extra $60 i think it was. It covers alot the manufacturer warranty wouldn't.

    It's a warranty, but not one you should be weary of. Most protection plans have gotten a bad stigma over the years, but this Geek Squad protection plan has never let me down. Best Buy has also been helpful and resolved any product issues I've had due to this warranty. Protection covers numerous categories, so give yourself the peace of mind and pickup the added coverage, it costs essentially the same as a weeks worth coffeeshop trips but now you're TV is worryfree for 2 years.

    5 week days to wait first tim then needed parts tell that after 3 days then another 5 days for a tv when the troubles is over for this tv i wont buy nothing from best buy maybe 30 miles away is too much for a store and geek squad leaves a lot to be desired i bougt the same tv thru amazon i should of kept it

    A large purchase like our new tv was even better know that if a problem occurs Geek Squad will be there to take care of it for us. You can’t put a price on security and piece of mind.

    They were booked out a month, but with things being the way they are these days, I understand. I needed their help to finish setting up our TV. I was so glad we bought the coverage! The way electronics are built these days, I always opt in for the insurance. The tech was friendly, patient, and very knowledgeable! I only wish they had more knowledgeable customer/phone support. My issue probably could have been solved over the phone.

    I will not make a purchase at Best Buy for any major products without buying the protection plan. I have replaced a TV before and a refrigerator multiple times. One thing I like about the protection plan is they will come out to your home and repair your items but if it's going to cost too much to repair it there go ahead and give you a gift card or allow you to exchange it for something else. Just so happened this time I was able to exchange it for a cheaper refrigerator because it was Black Friday so I was able to use the extra money left over to purchase a TV. Do not purchase anything without buying a protection plan. There's nothing better than knowing that your items are going to be working for the next 5 years. In my opinion as many items that I purchased as you can see I'm Elite Plus, items are not made like they used to and without protection, i would be out of thousands of dollars.
