I got the 5 year protection plan for my new Samsung smart tv. You never know what can go wrong these days with new technology, so just in case to be safe i got the five year protection plan. The price depends on the model of of tv. Mine was kind of expensive.

I always get Best Buy's extended warranty on anything over $250. My Samsung 75" flat screen croaked 4 years into the warranty, and as a result, more than paid for itself.

I personally believe it's always a good idea to purchase Geek Squad Protection. Initially if u only have money for the product you can still purchase the warranty I believe up to two weeks after purchase.
