The Chromebook stopped working after just two months. The Geek Squad rep said it was not reparable and gave me a full refund.

Love the size and weight of this Chromebook. It works well and meets my needs. However, the screen is small so it takes time to get used to less real estate.

    The perfect computing appliance

It's good to recognize up front that a Chromebook isn't a Windows or Mac laptop, and doesn't work the same way. It's best to have a printer already configured in Google Cloud Print, don't expect to print offline, and don't expect to sync media devices and ereaders with DRM. Now that the caveats are out of the way, I've been amazed by how much I like this little computer. My son needed a backup computer which would be used mostly for school. His school, like many, licenses Google applications so everything from email to office suite integrates natively. He uses it constantly and the functionality is just fine for what he needs to do regularly. It is more solid and easier to type on than a tablet with a keyboard and since it boots in seconds, I've borrowed it myself to print out a quick email or look something up when I didn't want to boot up the big computer. Probably no suitable as an only computer for many people, but a great option for multi computer households and as a secondary or travel computer.

Some of my favorite things: Super fast boot up time (probably 10 seconds or less) and wake from sleep time Lightweight, no fan and doesn't get hot (comfortable on lap even for long periods of time) Chrome OS is very straight forward and much more enjoyable than Windows (at least I think so) Nice controls for quickly switching between user accounts Keyboard hot-keys and touch pad swipe controls are very handy Pretty speedy for normal things like using the web The remote desktop works well The integration with Google Drive and other Google services is very nice I do like the matte screen, it's nice that there's not ever glare It's decent for things like movie watching (Netflix), max volume isn't super loud but it's alright. Wouldn't use it for serious movie watching but that's to be expected. I don't know if I would get it if it was my sole computer (I need other things like Photoshop and Illustrator), but it it really great for 95% of things I need. My wife really likes it... we might have to get another one with the Black Friday deal.... :)

First and foremost, this is a Chromebook. If you don't know what a Chromebook is, what it can and cannot do, I would suggest looking at resources online. Compact, and lightweight, I feel like I can take this machine anywhere without the bulk being a hassle. The keyboard works well for me - very similar feel to my old 11" Macbook Air. Touchpad is responsive, and not super sensitive. I don't get typing and clicking orders with my (admittedly) fat fingers. Set up could not have been easier. I logged in to my Google account, and it synced all Chrome settings after a few clicks, chrome apps, themes and everything. It's taken the place of my iPad as my "around the house" machine, for when I need to look up recipes while I'm in the kitchen, or if I want to stream Netflix (via Chromecast) on my HDTV. Can handle all the online streams I throw on it (Crunchyroll, Hulu, Netflix, Twitch) but can stutter on 1080p video on Youtube. I just pause it and let it load for a sec when I view content of that resolution/quality.

First low end PC I've ever purchased and shocked

    Posted .

I normally don't buy low end computers, but I ended up getting this so I could connect to my Chromecast and cast videos/photos etc. to it. I m surprised to say I'm shocked on how good this Chromebook is in terms of use and possible replacement to a laptop. First thing you need to know is I want to say majority of the functionality of this chromebook is dependent on you being connected to the internet. At first this turned me off on getting a chromebook, but then I thought about it and I was like well, that's the same thing as my gaming laptop. If I didn't have internet I would only be able to type essays or spreadsheet etc. I can write an email without being online...hmm wait this is starting to sound like a regular laptop. So anyways, that's what my first impression of this was. Note: The Chromebook is essentially the Chrome browser. In reality, you could just install the Chrome Launcher on a Windows/Apple computer and you just made your own chromebook. Most people who buy this are buying it for the portability and an extra extension of the computer. PROS: -The battery life is simply amazing -No fan on the bottom but it never really gets hot at the bottom at all -Google Remote Desktop: Essentially you connect to your computer at home and use it on the chromebook. I love this feature a lot since I sometimes need more Microsoft Excel capabilities than the Microsoft Excel Online provides. Yes, Microsoft Office does work on Chromebooks. Basic functionality on the browser tab, full functionality when you Google Remote Desktop. -Keyboard is extremely responsive. I can type really fast and after the browser settles in, it registers every letter immediately when I press it. -No viruses (yet). Of course in the future there will be, but at this time, it's really really impossible to get a virus on the Chrome OS. -Always up to date -Free Google Cloud storage for 2 years -Free GoGo sessions on airplanes (limit # of times though I believe) -While there are laptops at $199.99 or $299.99, this does it better because of no fan noise since there isn't one. -My friend's 8 month old banged on the keyboard and started playing it like a piano My chromebook is something I don't need to worry about because it's so low priced and it sustains itself WELL. I was shocked. -SD card slot (wish it was micro) -Sound is surprisingly decent. Not the best, but it resonates well. -HDMI port and charging port on the back. Really like this placement instead of on the side. -Trackpad is NICE. Great responsiveness with 2 finger swipes and all. I was very surprised by the responsiveness. It's like the Apple's trackpad, even the 2 finger tap to right click. -Benefits TREMENDOUSLY with Chromecast NEGATIVES: -Initial lag when opening a document or etc. but then it subsides; unless you have a ton of browser tabs open. -The viewing angles are horrible. But this is expected considering what type of screen it uses. -Feels like if you push the screen back, it'll snap since it's made out of plastic. But plastic is stronger than people think. I mean look at Costco water, it's in plastic. It can hold that weight! -Can't install software and run them offline. -Extremely internet dependent -SD card sticks out. -Camera quality is noisy, but expected at this price point. -Can't see the screen in the sun -Screen feels grainy compared to my UHD screens, but it's because of the screen it uses. I'm spoiled =P All in all, I decided to keep it. The portability, the no fan noise, the low price I don't have to worry about it like my gaming laptop, the security. What's not to like? Only thing I would change? The screen.

Nice cheap & fast chromebook for students

I bought this for my wife who is now attending school. This works perfectly for her needs. It is very fast, but it does have its limitations. This is a much cheaper alternative to buying a laptop, but also does not have as much functionality that a laptop can give. Chromebooks run on a Chrome OS and is similar to a tablet with an attach keyboard, so windows programs such as photoshop, movie editors, music editors, cannot be installed. But a plus feature is the the Chromebook does have a SD card slot and usb port so the memory is expandable to where you can add and external source with movie and music on it. All in all, this product is designed for students on a budget or parents looking to get there kids or teens a cheap laptop that wont break the bank .

No way to unlock computer if you are not an android user without putting in your full Gmail password which if you want to be secure Means you will be typing for a while. Also no spellcheck unless you’re connected to the Internet you always have to be connected to the Internet finally there is no update to be able to use Chrome apps yet that was supposed to be done like a year and a half ago and they never really updated why it’s not updated great job Google sorry for the lack of punctuation in this post I am using speech to text from my excellent iPhone 8 #applefanboy4eva

Managed to get as a $99 Black Friday deal. Very convenient for carrying to stores to check on prices and specifications of products. Added a $5 wireless mouse for operating convenience and an $11 Amazon Basics courier bag for easy transport. 10-hour battery life so I don't need to carry a charger around all day. Wireless receiver very powerful. I can often get store WiFi in the car from shopping center parking lots. Just remember that it is a Chromebook so it basically does web surfing, no Windows applications. Rating it 5-star for a small Chromebook, not as a PC.

Replaced my Samsung 303 with the Acer CB3

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I gave my daughter my Samsung 303 Chromebook to replace her ailing windows laptop thinking I could use a windows laptop work gave me. However, I couldn't stand the slow boot time, long updates, and inconsistent browsing experience using a windows machine. Given 99% of my time on a computer is spent online, I found myself once again in the market for a Chromebook. For those of you thinking a chromebook is limiting...well that is totally incorrect. In moments after booting up this Acer it had updated itself and I had access to all my programs and documents. The Acer CB3 is a much better chromebook than the Samsung 303 in all categories. The build is much more solid with none of the flex experienced with the Samsung 303. The battery lasts at least 2 hours longer and the screen resolution and brightness is amazing. The processor is noticeably quicker and I can have more tabs open without experience lagging performance. Finally, the stereo speakers are much louder quality than any of my devices including the 303 and my Nexus 7 tablet. This is now my go-to device for watching Netflix. Finally, I am glad to have the normal sized HDMI port as I use this computer as my presentation machine rather than using the windows computers built into the classrooms. It isn't much fun to have the windows computer decide to reboot and update in the middle of a lecture. The only way the Samsung 303 is better is that it has a micro SD slot for memory which means you can go up to 64 GB. However, I have never found myself using more than 4GB of memory for storing offline documents so....

    Love my Acer Chromebook

So portable, yet functional enough to replace our Windows tower pc. Does everything I need it to do. I can hook it up to my large screen 27" display thru HDMI. Fully compatible with all standard MS Office (docx, xlsx, pptx) and, contrary to a common misconception, they are fully accessible and functional when offline. Simple setup, and Chrome OS interface takes no time to learn. Don't be fooled by what appears to be a paltry 2GB RAM and 16GB hard drive. The Chrome OS requires FAR less horsepower to run than Windows. Boots up in literally a few seconds. I could go on and on. Only drawback is the matte white finish which I fear will become dingy with dirty fingers. Haven't experienced this yet, but just a fear. Pretty minor.
