Great Alternative to a cheap Windows Laptop

If you are looking for an inexpensive laptop and you mainly surf the internet and check emails then you should seriously consider this Chromebook from Acer. Especially with it on sale, as of Nov 10th, it's a terrific value. The biggest plus with this Acer Chromebook is how lightweight and compact it is. I love how easy it is to sit it on my lap and cruise around the internet while I'm watching TV. It's not uncomfortable on my lap even after long periods of use. The keyboard is perfectly fine. Takes a little getting use to when moving from a more spacious keyboard of a larger laptop, but it doesn't take long to adjust and type away. I am actually typing this review on it right now. I have been more than satisfied with the performance of this Chromebook. There was only one time I noticed it slow down but I had numerous (around 8 or so) tabs open at the time and something running on one of those most likely was the culprit. I have had that many tabs open since then and didn't notice any performance degradation. Chrome was my favorite browser to begin with so for me, getting a Chromebook when my old laptop bit the dust was appealing. It seems a little slow reading the memory card with full resolution pictures from my Nikon D5300 but it's nothing I'm too concerned about. I haven't tried to set up printing on it yet nor have I messed very much with trying to save documents but am sure so long as I took the time to read how neither would be too difficult. One thing I like a lot is when I take pictures with my cell phone and then log on to my Chromebook and open up Google+ Photos they are already there for me to use. This is extremely convenient but obviously would work best for somebody who has a cell phone with the Android operating system. While the screen is nowhere near as impressive as the new Toshiba Chromebook 2 13" HD screen (no other Chromebook is that I have seen) it's not as bad as I thought it was going to be based on reviews. Yes, it gets washed out if you don't look at it with just the right angle, but honestly I am perfectly fine with it and do not find it to be an issue. One thing I wish Acer would have done though, and this might just be me, but I rest my palms below the keyboard when I type. I realize this isn't proper form but it's how I type. The problem is the palm of my right hand winds up touching the touchpad at times and causes the cursor to move about. Usually this isn't an issue but it is a little annoying. Acer could have shifted the touchpad just a little to the left and it would be perfect. But I stress this is minor and may only be something I experience. Bottom line is this is a great machine for sending emails and looking at websites which is what I did 90% of the time with my previous Windows laptop. Add in how lightweight and portable it is and it's a winner in my book. Very pleased I decided to get it and makes me wonder if I will even bother with a Windows laptop again.

For casual browsing and Google Drive Usage, this is top notch! Incredibly light and portable. The 5 second boot-up time and long battery life make it easy to use all day without a charger. Please take the time to look up the apps and extensions that will make your Chromebook even more awesome. ...and yes ladies, it will fit in your purse without bulk!

By no fault of mine the screen became pixelated. I only had it setting on the table and one day I went to use it and the screen was pixelated.

    Great for a 2nd Computer

I bought this because my Macbook's screen broke and needed something to fill the void in the month or so it would take to be repaired. My options were a cheap Windows PC, a tablet, or this. I chose the Chromebook because I hate Windows 8, and preferred something with a keyboard over a tablet. I am very happy with my choice. 99% of what I do on my Macbook Air I can do on this $200 Chromebook. It's not the fastest machine in the world, but it's fast enough that I don't complain. It has a plastic feel to it, but typing on it feels great and the hinge for the lid feels very sold. The speakers on this thing are much louder than I expected them to be. I miss not having a magnet charger like the Macbooks have but the charging port on the Chromebook is very solid and doesn't feel cheap like the Windows PC's I have had in the past. It only comes with 16GB of hard drive space on hand but it does come with cloud storage and you can always just plug a flash drive into it for more space. Battery life is excellent, I've had this computer now for 3 1/2 days and I've only had to charge it twice. So far I have used this computer for Netflix, typing emails and documents, web browsing, and have used it with my Chromecast. I have yet to be disasppointed. Overall, for $200 you absolutely cannot go wrong and if you only do basic computer use this is perfect for you.

    All-in-all I believe it's a good value

For the past ten years I have owned one iBook and one MacBook. My standards for a laptop are fairly high. My employer issues me the typical clunky Windows laptops which I hate (not so much the operating system as the quality of the hardware). I believe I have a good idea on what makes a laptop good and what makes one bad. Here are my thoughts so far. It's small and lightweight. It feels plasticky and cheap (expected for a sub $200 laptop). The keyboard and mouse trackpad are awesome! This is the first non-Apple laptop I have used that got this right. I have enormous hands but have no trouble using such a small computer. It's a little sluggish when I have multiple tabs open. The screen looks nice and is at least as good as my late-2009 MacBook. I thought they shipped it to me powered on, but realized that's just how quickly it boots. It plays nicely with my Android phone. It allows importing photos from an iPhone. The SD card slot isn't deep meaning SD cards hang out. I was hoping it was recessed so I could keep one inside the computer at all times. All-in-all I believe it's a good value. Obviously it's not going to perform as well as a high-end Windows or Apple laptop. But for the day-to-day activities most people use a computer for it works great.

    Solid Inexpensive Chromebook

Good value for the price (paid 129.00). The Chrome OS is limited on what you can do vs. Windows or Linux, but this make a great travel companion or sofa surfer. The keyboard and trackpad are excellent, the screen and camera are acceptable. Full size HDMI port, so it's easy to connect to your tv to watch movies etc. Almost instant on, and unlike Windows you do not have to worry about constant updates and virus scanning. Battery life is > 8.0 hours on a single charge. Extremely portable, similar size/weight to Macbook Air, for a reasonable price. If a Chromebook is for you, this is a good choice.

    Excellent Bargain Laptop

First of all, you need to do research about what Chrome OS is all about. Once you educate yourself on what Chromebooks can, and cannot do, you can make an educated decision if the computer is right for you. For starters, you cannot find a better deal than this. For surfing the web, writing papers, the Chromebook is GREAT! You could get 150gb of free for Google Drive which is automatically synched with your Chromebook. The laptop itself is very light weight and the keyboard has an excellent feel to it. It's fun to write on. Browsing the web is fast as well, but lagging occurs once you begin using too many tabs. Again, educate yourself on the specs of this computer and realize that it's not going to be as powerful as 500 dollar laptop. It's also great for travelling and it is superlight weight and easy to carry around. Overall, great Chromebook and purchase for anybody looking for an affordable laptop to conduct basic functions!

I was skeptical at first when I saw the lowly looking specifications. I decided to get this one though since I figured Chrome OS would use less RAM and therefore perform better. My hunch was right. This baby is fast, looks good, durable yet portable and the sound is decent. Worth every penny.

    Wanted to hate it...

...but I absolutely love it. Just bought three new Win 8.1 laptops that all ended up getting returned to the store for one defect or another...this $149 little cutie outperformed them all by an order of magnitude. Three new low-end laptops running Windows 8.1, endless troubleshooting, little use...my two Chromebooks, including this Acer and another inexpensive ASUS, endless use, no troubles of any kind. Owned the ASUS for about six months, this ACER for a couple of weeks. The whole Google Chrome concept means less stress for the average user who just wants to browse the net, write a few emails, watch a few YouTube videos, et cetera. Windows 8.1 is slick and all that, but it won't run properly on a lower-priced laptop: my brand new ASUS Windows 8.1 X200MA laptop computer crawls and hangs, even after eliminating McAfee and other bloatware. This new ACER seems well-built, is exceptionally lightweight and thin, screen and sound quality are acceptable, has far less lag when typing fast than my Windows 8.1 laptop,..overall, it just works better. Wireless connectivity is good at about 20 feet from my wireless-N router on an upstairs floor. After having to return a few Windows 8.1 lemons to the store over the last few weeks, this ACER is a refreshing change...nice to have a computer that just works.

By far the best school investment I have made yet!

I bought this laptop because it was small and cheap. I already had a $2000 hp windows 8 laptop but it is much too big to carry around at school and place to go study. For school I just need the ability to access the internet and to be able to create documents. So I figured it would make do. I already had a laptop for anything heavy duty like video games or video editing. If you really want to, you have the ability to get linux OS on here if you really want software freedom. On the chromebook you have access to all of the Google apps. Google docs, slide, spreadsheet, keep note. in the app store you also have free access to all of the Microsoft office programs. so it does everything I need it to for school. Internet is wicked fast! faster then my $2000 windows 8 laptop. Battery life is outstanding! amazing! phenomenal! I use it everyday for atleast 5 hours aday. and on 25% brightness i can go a whole week on a single charge! My $2000 laptop barely last 3 hours not plugged in. Best laptop for any college student. dont waste your money on anything more expensive. also music works great as well as netflix. what more could you ask for.

One of my best ever purchases

When I first heard of chromebooks a few years back I literally thought it was the dumbest idea. However, I realized that I could get 99% of the things I need to by simply utilizing the internet and google drive, so I decided to give this a go when it was on sale for one hundred and forty nine bucks - what a steal. If I ever have to do something that this machine won't allow me to do, then I can just fire up my mac mini or laptop, but that is vary rare now. This thing is so incredibly easy to set up and was synced with my google account, obviously, making it an easy transition having all of my bookmarks at my fingertips within minutes. It comes with great speakers for the price and it literally feels like I'm carrying nothing when I take this around the house or to different places. It happened to get down to one hundred and twenty nine dollars last weekend and I somehow saw it before the deal expired and decided to spend the money on it because it is well worth it. I didn't need it, but said what the heck, you know, my mom could use this and it's only going to cost me a buck thirty, so I decided to pull the trigger and now she will be getting to enjoy this as soon a she gets back in town. Awesome product!

bought this Chromebook on sale. quick booting as expected. perfect for most regular use (email, watch videos, listen to music). hardware: - speakers are good, camera is acceptable. battery easily lasts 10 hours or so for me. I had concerns about the GB RAM but trust me - for all practical purposes, that's all you would need. I even cast a video tab to my 37 inch TV and still could have about 5 other open tabs performing regular browsing and it just did fine (a bit slow though). Software - mostly regular stuff i expected. Citrix (latest) works on chrome - it can open ICA files for a change, so i can use it for work (this was not my intention when i bought this)!. keyboard is pretty good quality. track pad could be better. CAPS lock and delete buttons are missing but there are easy workarounds.

I was concerned this was going to be a lesser model than the C720, but in no way am I disappointed with my decision to choose this model. The battery life is 9.5 hours plus! The screen seems brighter than the C720, and the design is awesome. I've had it on for all day, and it never gets hot, and it's completely fan less!! I've had up to 12 tabs open streaming video, music, and other sites with no lag at all. If you're looking for a great alternative to a Windows machine, I would highly recommend this Chromebook. I'm loving mine!!
