Good Chromebook - if only you receive a good unit
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all, this chromebook, in general, is very good. The specs are impressive at this price, on paper as well as in reality. The major issue I faced was with the build quality. First unit I received from BestBuy was defective where the touchpad started giving me issues within 2 days. I returned that unit and got another brand new unit as replacement from BestBuy. This second unit, after using for few days, gave me a cut on my finger as it had a subtle sharp edge on the right bottom side. I contacted BestBuy but as 15 day period was over, I was asked to contact Acer. Experience with Acer is another story. I sent this unit to Acer for repair/replacement. They completed the job in few days and returned the repaired unit which didn't have sharp edge anymore but the trackpad was all messed up and the screen hinge had couple of new issues. I again contacted Acer and resent the unit to them, they did some fixes and sent it to me but the issues were still persistent. Finally I again resent the defective unit and then they issued me a replacement unit which was in fair condition. All in all, not a bad machine but think of these issues before buying this machine. If I hadn't faced these issues, the laptop deserves 4 stars but not otherwise.

1st one dead, second one OK so far
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We picked this model over the Samsung since it had better features and appeared a better choice. It died after 18 days, Fortunately the manager at the Geek Squad gave us a replacement. We've had it now about two weeks. Seems to be OK but the space bar needs to be really smacked to work. I think Yahoo mail was causing some issues so we switched to Google. I'm hoping this one will last.

Junk
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought this for my son to use for school. It worked fine for about 6 months when the keyboard stopped working. The Geek Squad couldn't fix it and decided to junk it. Luckily I got store credit since it was under warranty but clearly it isn't a quality laptop even for our very basic needs.

Great little Chromebook
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this laptop on sale. Knew what I was getting before it arrived. It's a great chromebook. All metal construction. Fairly snappy performance. Fanless, so runs cool. Couple of issues to consider. Only two usb ports and no sd slot (knew in advance, not really a big deal, solved memory card slot issue with 128 gig usb key). Screen is a bit dim. Resolution causes you to squint (ChromeOS issue). Non-backlit keyboard (this seriously knocked it down). I thought it wasn't a deal breaker upon ordering. but it really affects the use of the laptop. I ordered a cheapy usb light to address. Had they spent an extra few pennies on led lights this could have been the perfect chromebook. It's a big deal, but not enough to return.

Amazing system value. Especially for the price!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is not my first Chromebook, but in fact one that I purchased for a family member who is starting their own business. I am helping them build their technology stack on Google Apps for Business and subsequent web/cloud-based storage and applications for simplicity and included backup/sync functionality if local data loss was to occur. This family member isn't very high-tech and wanted a very simple user experience and a zero-config/management set up so ChromeOS was perfect. This Acer Chromebook will no doubt be one of the best Chromebooks of 2016! Amazing WiFi range and 802.11AC compatibility. Build quality (all aluminum chassis and body) is superb. I evaluate $2500 Ultrabooks at work that could learn from Acer on this one. Dell used to be my go-to but I'm going to have to give Acer a second look if they keep making machines like this. The keyboard has perfect tactile response and the touchpad is excellent for this price bracket. No backlot keyboard would be my only wish list item to make this thing a perfect user experience. My only other complaint, one common to Chromebooks and other value PCs is the AC adapter type. Such a small, skinny DC jack that it looks like it'll break off inside the machine without much force. At any price point, a more robust power cord connector would have been easy and given some peace of mind. This seems like an unnecessary cut. Back to the positives (so many more than the two annoying negatives that are more about the segment and are really picky). The screen: EXCELLENT! - This thing is better than most full-price business laptops when it comes to screen contrast, clarity, brightness and resolution. It's not a touchscreen but in a Chromebook those are still considered luxury items. It has a wonderful matte anti-glare finish but does not get washed out by it. Unlike most matte displays the black point is deep and the contrast is very even across the display. This is surely a quality IPS panel and not one of those value TN displays with funky backlighting and uneven color/contrast. Finally, this thing is fast and efficient. I ran for almost 4 hours unplugged last night doing all of the Google Apps, Wave accounting, and Google Cloud Print setup and teaching my excited relative about all the bells and whistles that took very little retraining of his current computer skills. We only used 17% of our fully charged battery. This thing will definitely go all day and then some. We're talking an easy 10-12 hours of daily use and what seems like very good LiPo chemistry as this is not a heavy laptop so it's not due to a huge heavy battery inside. All in all I'll be telling everyone about this thing. This will either be 2016s top Chromebook, or I'm excited to see what beats it!!

Crashes
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The computer itself looks fine and has a nice big monitor (if you can keep it from locking up on you). We had the computer for 10 days and it locked up 2 times and once wouldn't even turn on. All we were doing was using it for internet and would turn it off when not in use. The computer is way under sized and is not a good purchase.

had issues with Spotify, sound glitches
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.issues with Spotify, would sometimes make loud buzzing or static noises, max out the CPU for no reason. sometimes happened when loading a new web page. Extremely annoying. Not sure if this was a defective unit or a weakness with the Spotify app, but I ended up returning it. Also had periodic issues with the mouse freezing. Again, maybe CPU overload.
