Customers are saying

Customers appreciate the large screen size and responsive touchscreen of this 15.6" Chromebook. Positive feedback also highlights its long battery life, ease of use, and lightweight design. Many users find the speakers to be surprisingly good. A common concern, however, is the limited internal storage.

First off, I have a Window’s ultrabook as well as an iPAD Air 2 and an Android phone, so I like to try different systems and don’t have a particular allegiance one way or another. This refurbished model came in phenomenal shape, with no scratches or really any visible signs of use! It’s practically in new shape! There were some smudges, but it just needed to be cleaned, so I got really lucky! It came in a plain brown box with just a charger(Lite-On brand, so I’m not actually sure that this is the OEM USB-C charger, but that’s fine with me and it charges the chromebook just fine). Thanks to ACER refurbished and Amazon for the condition of this chromebook! I couldn’t have hoped for any better! The design and construction of this device is great and really reflects a higher price point than the $300-$350 price range of a new chromebook. It weighs in at around 4lbs, so it’s portability is not too bad for a 15.6” laptop. It’s build quality is on par with my ASUS ultrabook, which is around 3X more expensive. The design reflects a Apple MacBook look, with an aluminum body with dual front facing speakers on the sides of the keyboards. This design really can fool people in thinking that this is a much pricier laptop than it is, and most people won’t even notice the Chrome badge on the top. As I’m writing this review in a coffee shop now, I look around and notice macbooks and various versions of windows laptops, and my chromebook fits right in. If you learn how to use a chromebook for what it can do, it can be a powerful multi-tasking computer for everyday use, of course with limitations to how much you can multitask. The bottom of the laptop has 4 large feet and its rubberized plastic of some sort, so the laptop stays put while typing or clicking. When opening the laptop, you must hold the base while lifting the screen as the hinges are stiff. This may loosen up over time, but not an issue for me at all. Also, this chromebook fits nicely in my Timbuk2 Rogue backpack and Timbuk2 Command Messenger bags! The keyboard is actually pleasant to type on. It feels clicky for me with good response. The keys are rounded square keys and give good feedback. The keys have a good amount of travel and is better than my ASUS ultrabook. The keyboard is a typical chromebook layout, so it takes a little to learn the layout compared to mac and windows keyboards, but once you do, it’s quite nice, especially when you learn chromebook keyboard shortcuts. The only thing I noticed is that when I type, the screen shakes/vibrates at time. This happens on my ASUS ultrabook as well. I’m a heavy typer I suppose as well, since I’m use to a mechanical keyboard at home, and seem to bang on the keys as I type, so that’s probably why, so it’s understandable. There is no flex to the keyboard though and if you type normally or light, the screen shake I don’t think will be an issue. Either way, since this Acer is so affordable, I can excuse this and don’t expect it to be perfect experience when typing for me. The keyboard is also lighted and with 5 or more light levels of brightness and off, which is nice and really not expected for an an affordable chromebook in this price range. Regarding the trackpad, it is a large size which is nice, but there is a audible click when pressing it down. The click can be a little loud and the mechanics under the trackpad can be disconcerting. I hope that over time, the trackpad will last and not malfunction. It is fairly accurate when tracking and can be just lightly tapped instead of clicked, but doesn’t always respond the first time. I’ve had better experiences with my windows precision trackpad on my ASUS ultrabook, but then again, it’s a much more expensive device. You could use a USB or bluetooth mouse on the chromebook if the trackpad doesn’t quite workout for you. I like the various trackpad gestures for chromebooks, so I’m sticking with it and works well enough for me. The screen is a glossy IPS full HD screen with adequate brightness. The brightness is not going to approach a macbook’s screen, but it’s surprising good for a really affordable machine! I would have preferred a matte screen to prevent reflections, but I can overlook this. If your someone bright like a well-lit coffee shop or using it outdoors in the shade, you will notice the reflections, which can make the screen hard to see at certain angles. The screen is also a very responsive touch screen, which is nice for android apps, but I probably won’t be using this as much. It also folds 180 degrees flat, but not all the way around to be used as a tablet. This is fine as its quite large to use in hand as a tablet anyway. This screen is nice to watch videos, but would not be great for any type of color accurate photo editing. This machine is not really designed for any of that high-end work anyway. But all in all, I’m satisfied that it is good enough and it’s full HD too, which is surprising for an affordable chromebook! There are 2 front-facing speakers on each side of the keyboard. These speakers are nice and loud and more than enough for a laptop and probably the best I’ve heard on a laptop. It’s not particularly bass heavy or super-accurate in anyway, but still would be sufficient for listening to a movie or music. Above 75% volume, the sound can get crackly, but I would never turn it up that far. 50% is high enough for me. I usually use headphones anyway. The I/O ports are sufficient with the exception of a micro SD slot instead a full-size SD slot. This is puzzling as to why this is included and I can’t think of a 15.6” that would have this. If you want to expand your storage or view images from your camera, then this would be an issue. You can expand storage with a micro SD card of course, but the full size SD card is just the more common option with chromebooks, so ACER’s decision here is puzzling to say the least. There are 2 USB 3 ports and 2 USB-C ports on each side, which is nice balanced and not overloaded like many laptops. The USB C ports can be used for charging too, which means I can charge from either side of the laptop, which is a nice option where it might make a difference. Either way, the charging brick and cable is pretty long and can accomodate charging options when you are at coffee shops etc. If you want to connect this chromebook to a larger monitor or TV, you’re going to have to use some type of USB adapter though. Overall, I’m happy with the I/O port options except for the micro SD card slot. Now for battery life, this is an exceptional machine for 10-12 hours of mix use including 10-12 tabs open, several android apps open, and music/video streaming. The machine will slow down a bit with lot of apps open at the same time, especially with only 4GB of RAM. This would be more severe most likely with Windows laptops in general. I’ve had a low-end Lenovo laptop with only 4 GB RAM, and it performs poorly when multitasking, but chrome OS manages system resources more efficiently than Windows in my experience, which attests to the long battery life. This is definitely sufficient for me when I’m at coffee shops all day and rarely take the power brick as I don’t really need it to charge. The stand-by time when the chromebook when sleeping is great as well. It also charges quickly when empty, which is great. This would be great for students who need all-day battery life and a power outlet is not always available. The performance is pretty good when it comes to multi-tasking with many tabs open and several android apps at the same time. There are limitations though. I’ve discovered that android apps can be glitchy at times(one note, blue mail etc.) and screen tears occur, which could be related to over-taxing the system resources too. So for one note, I prefer the web version, which just works better on the chromebook in my opinion. I’m not convinced yet that chromebooks are quite ready for android apps, but hoping that the experience will get better over time. Most the ones I’ve tried are limited and glitchy and the web versions are much better. For example, the firefox browser app works, but it is the mobile version of the app and looks like it on the chromebook. I actually prefer firefox over chrome in a PC environment, but on chromebook, chrome is definitely the more complete browser of the 2. I only use firefox at times if a website is more compatible with firefox. When it comes to office-like software on chromeOS, Google’s suite of office apps is far superior. I’ve tried many of the office-like alternatives on the app store, but they all disappoint in some way, usually lack of features and lag compared to google docs. Google just simply runs smooth and fast when it comes to Docs and Sheets compared to the competition. I even tried MS Office online, but this pretty

I purchased this in dec 2018 and already sent it for repairs once, I had to pay to ship it back(not happy) . The problem they said, bad charger. Sent me a new one. Now couple months later, charge doesn’t work again. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY. Best Buy does not Intervene and get it done right . I don’t have the time to keep doing this

I wasn’t told about the chrome system when I bought this. I have had a terrible time with it and wish I had NEVER bought Ctome!!! For me it’s useless. I’ve only used it a few times and it was a waste of money for me. I’m 76 and maybe that’s why I’m having so much trouble
