Excellent Laptop Replacement
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Chromebook is an excellent addition to our household. Since my kids use them for school I felt this could be a benefit to them at home. Using the 15.6 inch touchscreen that has crystal sharp resolution at 1920x1080 is a benefit for them versus their 13 inch from school. There is 32 gb of flash memory built in so you can store some files but its mostly for the operating system and a quick boot up procedure. There is Blue-tooth capability along with 4 USB ports for peripherals you may want to utilize such as a mouse, hard drives, etc. Additionally there are two USB-C ports that will be good for some of the newer connectivity type devices that utilize this high speed throughput. In our home, with so many wireless devices, adding another one could be a challenge but this device has not had any issues or caused others to respond slower and it has the current wireless AC technology for the best connections if you have a router that has it otherwise, it will connect to older technologies as well. The last part we were very impressed with was the battery. After a full charge, the device lasted a good 8 or 9 hours in total. My son was able to stream a movie and after watching it, the battery was only down to about 75%. I would highly recommend this Acer Chromebook and this says a lot from someone who typically buys laptops that have all the bells and whistles.

Awesome Laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was my first ever Chromebook and I have to say that after using it for the better part of a week I'm starting to see why these things are starting to catch on. If you are looking for a device for lightweight stuff such as browsing the web or using web based services such as Google Docs or the online versions of Microsoft Office then you really cannot go wrong with this device. Add in the fact you can now start using Android apps such as Office and others then this really starts to look more and more appealing. The Intel Pentium quad-core processor may be dated silicon to modern Windows standards but for such a lightweight operating system as ChromeOS it's perfect. This machine handled a total of 32 open Chrome tabs before I noticed any kind of stutter or lag. The 15 in HD screen is a lot better than one might expect in a Chromebook, especially at this price point. It's bright, crisp, and clear. It's also a touch screen but it's not glass and the traction of my fingers across the screen just didn't feel right. The built in stereo speakers are surprisingly loud and clear when streaming video or music and are far enough apart you get a genuine sound separation for added enjoyment. My only cons are the build materials and the screen hinge. It's impossible to open this one handed as the base just does not have enough weight to serve as a counter balance. Also, while the lid and keyboard area are indeed made from aluminium the bottom of the device is of a cheapish feeling matte black plastic material with a LOT of flex, thus removing one star from my rating. Would I recommend this to someone looking for a lightweight (OS wise) device? Yes. A power user? No. This is a great device and I'm sure I'll be enjoying it for some time to come.

WOW
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve never used a chromebook, and I now I can see why people love them. Super fast, clean UI, and very powerful. The design reminds me of another famous laptop, (you know the one), which is a good thing. Quality build, and very loud speakers. They are facing up, and at you...so this makes for a great experience. Battery life should be great for his laptop, and I’m sure it will last for a while on a single charge. If I can update my review, I will later. Good Job Acer.

Overall Solid
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ACER Chromebook 15, Model # CB515-1HT-P39B, P/N NX.GPTAA.002. I wanted to get these number in the review because there so many different varieties, I want you to know what one I am reviewing. The overall build is good. Solid case with only the slightest amount of flex to it. The screen is clean and big for a Chromebook. It's also a touch screen, I'll have to see how a glossy screen holds up to fingers. Unlike tablets, this screen is not solid glass. It feels more like your touching you computer monitor. The processor is a quad core, old style Pentium, not Core or I series, running at 1.1 GHz. It has 4 gigs of ram and 32 gigs of eMMC storage space. Only about 25 gigs of that are yours to work with. The keyboard is full size but missing a number pad. It feels good to type on. It is also back lit so working in low light, or even dark conditions is possible. The track pad is responsive, almost a little too much. So at first look it's about as good as your phone. However it is snappy in it's response. Running Chrome as it's OS means it is stripped of any overhead. Without an internet connection it can do very little. It is really geared towards elementary schools and young students. It exists in the Google universe of applications. It runs all the Google web applications as well as Microsoft Office 365 or Online web applications. The Microsoft Web based applications may look and feel just like the real thing but they are not. Word and Excel work OK but Power Point is missing some animations and controls. Using a full version of office will show different results then the online version. The fact that you can even run Office on a Chromebook shows how hard they are working on making it better. The sound is OK, not great, but OK. With the size of the speaker holes I would have thought it would have better sound. However the holes could have something to do with cooling as much as sound. This is NOT a laptop. It is the size of a laptop but it's OS is extremely limited. There are a very limited supply of applications you can install. But with only 25 gigs of storage space you wouldn't be able to load much on it anyways. It is expandable with the addition of a Micro SD card. It has 2 full size USB 3 ports, a headset jack, and 2 USB-C ports, WI-FI and Bluetooth, a camera and mic on the top of the display. One of the USB-C ports is used for charging but can be used by other devices if you can find something to plug into it. The battery indicator seems to be in real time. Fully charged it states 14 hours of time left. Start using it for anything intensive and that time changes. Do more, the time goes way down, do less, the time goes way up. It has no CD/DVD drive. Watching something on it would mean watching it off of a USB thumb drive. Something to remember while looking into getting this. Again, this is not a Laptop. It's not a PC or a Mac. It is a Chromebook. If you never intend to install programs. Or use it away from an internet connection, it might suit your needs. But lets be serious about it, for $50.00 more you can get an entry level laptop that has 10 times the storage space and will accept real programs. Not just apps that run on the internet. I'm not saying it doesn't have a place. A budget is a budget. People that need something for their young kids going to school. That need to look things up on the internet, or log into a site for school, or check email, this will do that, and it will do it well. It may also be good for "elderly" people who only need it for email to see pictures of grand-kids and what not. For what it's designed to do, it does a decent job of it. This is not to be used as a laptop replacement, at least not yet. Maybe in the future Google will stop competing with itself (Android/Chrome) and settle on one system and really step up. Android is setup for phones and tablets. Chrome is setup for "laptops". Android with added functionally would be a better choice I believe. The bottom line: For what it is, it works and it works well. Good overall build. It could use more power and storage but it doesn't need it in it's current form. I would only suggest this to someone on a tight budget with young kids in school or elderly people who only need to do a few things and do not need or even want a computer. It does a very good job of conserving batter life. Open it and use it, then just close it. Like a Mac, it goes to sleep and wakes up cleanly. Just remember, you are not buying a PC or Mac, this is not a full real laptop. If you have been using a PC or Mac there will be a learning curve.

All good but...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ok this is not a deal breaker but worth pointing out. The bezel is over the glass of the screen to the edge of the display like screens were before touchscreens were invented and how some of the first touchscreens were. Basically if you have to pull a touch gesture from the edge of the screen you have to get in there right in against the bezel and I'm finding many times its not registering as an edge pull. No biggy tho since there more than one way to skin this cat. The immersive mode key is right above the number 5 and also pushing mouse up or down into top or bottom of screen accomplishes the same thing and this will never fold into a tablet or tent mode like my R13 and R11 so once I get use to it I'm sure my tendency to do it will go away. Other than that by all means I recommend getting it. Huge screen with back-lit keyboard and great battery life!

My first Chromebook
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've only had it a couple of days, but so far so good. I've had laptops for 20 years. I find this is better than a laptop. Fast start ups, uses apps that are on my phone. Why pay for programs when there are free apps. I haven't use the touch screen that much, but it works fine. You can't beat the price different between a laptop and a Chromebook. It does a better job with blocking those pop up ads too. Battery life is great, L've had it for 4 days and haven't charged it yet. A little hard to switch from a laptop, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.

Awesome Chromebook
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, remember, it is a Chromebook. This is basically a huge nexus phone with a real keyboard. The screen is nice and great for pictures. I plan on using this for mainly picture viewing at events for people to order prints. I did go through it well and found everything to work fast and correctly. The screen size is awesome and clear. Wifi is MIMO and I have a router that supports it so download speeds are lightning fast and video streams great. All the standard Google software works perfect, drive, docs, etc all work with ease. Battery life is outstanding as it does not have a huge system weighing it down. The size is great, very thin and super light. The battery charger does get a tad warm, so make sure it is not covered up with anything or in your lap. I am overly pleased with this chromebook, especially with online programs, it just works.

Beauty and Function
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first chromebook. It's all that I had hoped for in one. The screen is large and sharp. The speakers are loud and clear. The keyboard has a nice layout, the back lit keys are a nice touch, and it feels tactile. It's snappy and loads websites quickly. It also boots very quickly. The aluminum body looks beautiful. The 2 usb c ports add extra charging options which is nice .
