Mixed feelings (Reviewed by a Techie)
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had the Acer Chromebook for about 3 weeks now and here are my thoughts so far. This is my 3rd Chromebook that I've owned in the past 3-4 years. Unfortunately the other two Chromebooks that I have had didn't hold up very well, I think you sacrifice longevity and durability for these Chromebooks but you usually get better bang for your buck browsing the internet when comparing them to a cheaper laptop running windows. I think it's overall designed nicely, it definitely is trying to look like a Macbook Pro with the aluminum body. That's not necessarily a bad thing. I appreciate the backlit keyboard, it makes typing at night alot easier. The backside or bottom of the laptop is the only part not finished in aluminum, it has a plastic finish but it feels a bit rubbery smooth like. It's very nice to touch but it's an absolute fingerprint magnet. The screen resolution is 1080p but I've definitely seen better quality 1080p displays, I also could have went without the touch screen feature and swapped that out with a higher quality screen. I think touching your laptop screen feels awkward and not natural at all unless it's a 2 in 1, tablet/laptop. The colors seem a bit faded and not as vibrant as I would like, also when you move the screen or adjust it you can see light bleed on darker backgrounds so I'm not really sure how durable this thing is going to be, I may see myself having to invest in something a little pricier down the road if this doesn't hold up longer than a year. I really like that it has 2 USB Type C ports (one on each side), the more they implement these ports in our devices the easier things will be. You can charge the laptop from either side and you don't have to fumble around hoping you have it right side up. The charger that comes with the laptop is also compatible with my Nintendo Switch so if I'm on the go and visiting anywhere and I'd like to bring both devices then I only need the one charger. The web browsing has been fine so far, no hang up or lag anywhere. I only ever have 4-5 windows open at once though so you may have a different experience if you tend to leave tabs open longer than usual. The battery life seems fine, I get about 4-6 hours when using Youtube or Netflix or browsing the web at about 75% brightness. That's about normal for Chromebooks. If you want to maximize your battery then you'd be best setting the screen at 50 percent brightness and turning off your keyboard light. The charger is pretty fast anyway so it doesn't matter too much unless you are stuck without being able to plug in anywhere. Overall I'm happy with this Chromebook but I have mixed feelings. I think the screen resolution could be better, I don't like that when I adjust the screen angle I can see light bleed coming from the edges of the screen, that worries me that if this thing takes a slight bump that the screen might not hold up. The touch screen seems like a wasted feature, if you can't execute touch screen gestures flawlessly then you should probably leave them out all together and save the consumer some money. The touch screen isn't very responsive and it feels awkward to use on a 15" laptop. The webcam is pretty low quality but I don't bother with it so that's fine. The processor is good enough for what I use the internet for (Reddit, Youtube, Twitter, Amazon, Gmail, Twitch, Spotify and any account management) I got this laptop for 300 dollars on sale. I'd say it's worth it at that price. I'd be hesitant to buy it at 400 dollars. At 300 you aren't going to find a standard laptop with a better screen, backlit keyboard and as speedy as this Chromebook. At 400, if you are casual enough of a user you maybe want to save a little more and try an iPad or save another 100 dollars and get a budget laptop. So overall I'm happy but I'm definitely conflicted. We will see how long it holds up. I'd give it just under 4 stars out of 5 so something like 3.8 stars out of 5 overall.

Bad speakers x2

Exchanged it for the same model and had the same issues with the replacement. I returned it for a refund and purchased a full size laptop.

A chromebook for students
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is not a MacBook, nor a Microsoft Surface, nor a desktop replacement. For those unfamiliar, chromebooks are special laptops that only run Google apps Ike gmail, google docs, google drive, you get the picture. The hard drive is purposefully small as it’s designed to harness cloud-based storage. For that reason, this would be a excellent device for students who simply need a device to take notes or watch YouTube. All your preferences and settings automatically load up once you sign into your google account, making it a fairly seamless transition. However, there are some sacrifices that come with the territory of using a watered down OS. The processor isn’t strong, the screen isn’t FHD, and this isn’t really meant to be running CAD. So for anyone looking for a nice-looking machine for light use, this is fine. If you’re looking to play intense games or run photoshop, chromebooks aren’t for you. So in conclusion, I’d only recommend this machine for people not requiring more from their laptop than you’d be doing in your phone during a T-ride or something like that.

Outstanding product for the price!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the 14" model and didn't like it so much so I returned it when I heard the 15" was coming out and I'm very happy I did! The 15" blows doors on the 14"! I originally bought the 14" to replace a Dell 17" that died on me after only 2 years. It was going to cost more to fix than buy something new so I threw it in the trash. I can't believe I lugged that thing around the world as much as I did. It felt like a ton of bricks in my backpack compared to the Acer Chromebooks. I can't even tell one of these is in there, that's how light they are. The biggest difference between the 15" and 14" besides the screen size, which was one of the main reasons I traded it...I much prefer a bigger screen, the 15" is a LOT faster, it has a touch screen which makes it well worth the extra coin, it has a backlit keyboard which I love, the screen is much brighter, and the speakers are on top. I think that's what I hated most about the 14"...the speakers were underneath so the sound was absolutely terrible! Overall, I absolutely love this Acer 15" Chromebook. I use it for simple thinks like watching youtube, checking email, facebook, surfing the web and playing chess. I can have several windows open and I don't notice a slowdown at all...even with videos. I log into my Chrome account and everything is right there. It's really a beautiful system. It's very light to travel with and the battery lasts a LONG time. I was skeptical about the brand at first because it doesn't have the name recognition like Dell or HP. But after reading through many reviews myself, it was a very easy decision to buy. This a a beautiful, fast, sleek. lightweight computer that easily meets my needs and I would highly recommend you give it a try if you are on the fence. I know I'm happy I did.

Valuable Laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Opening the box on this laptop, I was quite surprised at how beautiful this laptop is. I like the solid feel of its build and how easy it was to begin using. Having never used a Chromebook, it was a little intimidating to switch to ChromeOS, but the transition is made easier in the welcome screens and guide that opens after finishing the setup. This little laptop is very responsive to commands, and the touchscreen is something I've never used on a laptop, but it makes browsing through video apps even easier. I did not notice any fingerprints on the screen after using it, but that is after limited use. The fact that it uses USB-C for the charging port (one on each side of the laptop) leads me to believe this hardware will be relevant for several years. Now, this laptop is not a workhorse for video editing or anything like that, but for watching videos, working on documents, and web-browsing, it's perfect.

Good General Purpose Chromebook
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall this Acer Chromebook 15 is 3.5 stars. It's good for general office or school work, as long as you understand the advantages and disadvantages of a Chromebook. Assuming you do, then these are the pros and cons of this specific machine: PROs • Large 15” screen • Aluminum body is high quality • Backlit keyboard • Long battery life lets you work all day without plugging in • Lightweight CONs • Glare is pretty bad. Wear a dark shirt when working. • Speakers sound tinny and not very loud, even at max volume • Keyboard feel is chintzy; doesn’t match the quality of the aluminum • Screen's black point is not deep.. Shadows drop to black and you can’t see nuances in dark colors, giving it a very contrasty image. I would not do any photo or video editing on this. For anyone who is invested in the Google ecosystem (Android and Chrome), this will more than get the job done. It's priced higher than last year's model, but I wouldn't say it delivers phenomenal value for that additional cost. Regardless, it should be on your list to consider.

Best laptop and OS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my very first Chromebook, and after using it just once, I'm never going back to PC or mac ever again. I love how super fast this computer is despite the low specs and I don't have to wait forever for the laptop to boot. The laptop itself feels and performs like a mac book pro, without spending a thousands dollars. The trackpad works well and keyboard feels great. The display is the absolute best, it has a nice gloss it with a 1980x1050 resolution. I got this on sale for $299, and don't regret it one bit. Has google play now, so pretty much you have all the apps you need to use a computer for. Overall, the display, speed, and price are the highlight of this laptop

good machine
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will be honest, I returned my first one do the battery never saying 12 hour's after a full charge, Well the second one is the same. What I noticed is the battery meter must be wrong, everytime you click on it, it says another time remaining. Plus I never get a full wifi signal on either machine, but it works great. I would recommend this chromebook for the nice screen, lighted keyboard , speed, and overall feel of it. I just wanted everyone who gets one not to worry about the battery, saying like 5 hours remaining on full charge, then check it again and it will say something else, it might just be a update thru google.

BEST CHROMEBOOK!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had several chromebook so in the past, but this new Acer Chromebook 15.6 inch is by far the best. The screen resolution is truly beautiful and the keys are very easy to use. It is fast and I just love just love the immediate on screen if I close and open it. Don’t have to worry about purchasing antivirus protection. Beautiful chrome silver finish and easily runs 10+. Has Word included, as well. I’d rather use this beautiful chromebook than my other Windows laptop. You can’t beat the price, either. This is one terrific Chromebook. You’ll love it!1

My wife liked mine, got her one too...both happy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I read a lot of user reviews. I bought mine as a birthday present for myself, EVERYTHING I was looking for and more for a leisure, online anywhere computer. Screen is great to watch live video and sports online. The backlit keyboard is perfect for early morning and late night use. This is the best on the couch, the multi-task piece of electronics I have ever owned. We now own two.

Outstanding
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely incredible laptop for the price. I just bought for $299 on the Best Buy website and received a free Google Home device along with it. You cannot beat that deal. This laptop is superb. Great big keyboard that is comfortable to type on. Plus it is backlit, which is a feature that is hardly ever offered on a budget laptop. It also performs very quickly and has a beautiful resolution to go along with big screen. Absolutely buy this laptop if you are in the market!
